NHL Morning Skate – Jan. 11, 2026

Nikita Kucherov (2-2—4) propelled the Lightning to their second seven-goal outing in as many road games and did so after the Leagueunveiled its plans for the construction of the rink at Raymond James Stadium ahead of the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 1 (6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN, SN, TVAS).

* Marat KhusnutdinovPavel Zacha and David Pastrnak all had single-game career highs as Boston became the first team to score 10 goals in a contest this season.

* Sunday’s five-game slate is highlighted by a Sportsnet 360 showdown between Alex Ovechkin and Steven Stamkos, who will become the third set of 600-goal scorers to go head-to-head over the last 10 years.

LIGHTNING STRIKE SEVEN TIMES IN BACK-TO-BACK ROAD GAMES, WIN NINTH STRAIGHT

Nikita Kucherov (2-2—4) continued to be a catalyst for the Lightning offense, collecting multiple points for the eighth straight game and four-plus points for the second time in as many road games as the Lightning (27-13-3, 57 points) extended the NHL’s longest active win streak to nine games. Tampa Bay, which scored seven goals in consecutive road games for the first time in franchise history, is 21 days away from hosting Boston at Raymond James Stadium for the 2026 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 1.

* Kucherov, the third active player and 10th overall since 1992-93 with multiple points in eight straight games, registered his 36th career four-point game – the third most among active players behind Connor McDavid (45) and Sidney Crosby (43). Saturday also marked the 22nd time the Lightning forward has collected four points in a road game – a total he also reached in Tampa Bay’s last outing as a visitor (1-4—5 on Jan. 3).

* Kucherov will look to bring his point producing ways to his second career outdoor game, following a 1-1—2 performance at the 2022 Stadium Series. He can join Stadium Series opponent David Pastrnak (2019 WC & 2021 LT) as well as Rangers teammates Alexis Lafrenière and Vincent Trocheck (both 2024 SS & 2026 WC) as the fourth player with multiple points in each of his first two career outdoor games.

Jon Cooper’s club earned their 15th road win of the season (15-4-3 in 22 GP) – tied with the Rangers (15-9-2) for the most among all teams – and required the second-fewest games in a campaign to hit the mark behind 2018-19 (20 GP). Cooper (Team Canada) is one of two coaches to register a win streak of nine or more games during the same year they served as a head coach of an Olympic team, alongside Team USA’s Peter Laviolette (9 GP; 2x in 2005-06 w/ CAR).

Marat Khusnutdinov (4-1—5) and Pavel Zacha (3-0—3) scored their first career hat tricks while David Pastrnak (0-6—6) had a career-high six points as the Bruins buried 10 tallies in a game for the first time since Oct. 16, 1988. Of note, Pastrnak also had six points in Game 2 of the 2018 First Round.

* Khusnutdinov became the eighth player in the NHL’s expansion era (since 1967-68) to score four tallies in a contest while never having a multi-goal game entering play. He joined Auston Matthews (Oct. 12, 2016), Sam Bennett (Jan. 13, 2016), Jiri Dopita (Jan. 8, 2002), Jaroslav Svejkovsky (April 13, 1997), Tony Granato (Oct. 30, 1988), Brian MacLellan (Nov. 3, 1983) and Dennis Maruk (Nov. 18, 1975).

* Khusnutdinov and Zacha became the first set of Bruins teammates during the expansion era to each score a hat trick in the same game and sixth overall. They joined Andy Hebenton and Dean Prentice (Jan. 18, 1964), Bill Cowley and Ken Smith (Jan. 21, 1945), Cowley and Busher Jackson (March 16, 1944), Marty Barry and Joe Lamb (Nov. 23, 1933) as well as Hago Harrington and Jimmy Herberts (Feb. 13, 1926).

CELEBRINI HELPS SHARKS SURGE BACK TO WIN IN OT WITH THREE-POINT GAME

Macklin Celebrini (0-3—3) factored on two goals to help his team rally back from 2-0 and 4-2 deficits before setting up Tyler Toffoli in overtime to lift San Jose (23-18-3, 49 points) to victory and third place in the Pacific Division. The Sharks overcame a multi-goal deficit multiple times in a game for the second time in franchise history (also 5-4 W at HFD on March 21, 1992).

* Celebrini extended his point streak to 13 games dating to Dec. 11 (9-18—27) and tied Nathan MacKinnon (13 GP in 2013-14) for the second longest by a teenager in NHL history behind only Patrik Laine (15 GP in 2017-18). He also tied Mikael Granlund (13 GP in 2023-24) for the second-longest run in Sharks history, trailing only Erik Karlsson (14 GP in 2022-23).

* Celebrini, who is Olympic-bound (Team Canada), became the third player to hit 70 points in 2025-26 (24-46—70 in 44 GP). In the process, he also became the third-fastest teenager in NHL history to reach the mark in a season, following Wayne Gretzky (40 GP in 1980-81) and Sidney Crosby (43 GP in 2006-07).

AVALANCHE, MAPLE LEAFS, SABRES EXTEND LENGTHY STREAKS
The League-leading Avalanche (33-4-7, 73 points), Maple Leafs (22-15-7, 51 points) and Sabres (24-15-4, 52 points) each skated to victory Saturday and extended lengthy team streaks in the process:

Brent Burns (40 years, 307 days) led the Avalanche to their 17th straight win at Ball Arena with a pair of tallies and became the fourth-oldest defenseman in NHL history to record a multi-goal game, following Tim Horton (41 years, 277 days on Oct. 16, 1971), Zdeno Chara (41 years, 221 days on Oct. 25, 2018) and Nicklas Lidstrom (41 years, 191 days on Nov. 5, 2011). Colorado improved to 19-0-2 on home ice and became the 11th team in NHL history to register a point in each of their first 21 home games of a season.

* William Nylander (1-2—3) made an impact in his return to the Toronto lineup, factoring on three of five Maple Leafs goals as they extended their home winning streak to seven games and overall point streak to nine contests (7-0-2) – their lengthiest since they posted a nine-game stretch in 2023-24 (6-0-3). Nylander recorded his 45th career three-point game and tied fellow countryman Borje Salming for the ninth most in franchise history.

Jack Quinn netted a pair of goals and helped the Sabres (24-15-4, 52 points) jump into the first Wild Card spot in the East. Buffalo collected its sixth straight home win and 13th overall victory in its last 14 outings – the first time the Sabres have recorded 13 wins in a 14-game span. Jarmo Kekäläinen, who was named Sabres GM on Dec. 15, matched Bryan Murray (11 GP w/ OTT) and Pierre Lacroix (11 GP w/ QUE) for the fewest games by a general manager in NHL history to reach 10 wins with a single franchise.

OLYMPICS-BOUND STARS SHINE IN #NHLSTATS: LIVE UPDATES

Stats and storylines were aplenty during a 14-game Saturday, including standout performances from Golden Knights forward Mitch Marner (Team Canada) in his 700th career game and Wild defenseman Quinn Hughes (Team USA) – who notched his sixth three-assist outing of the season and third in a Wild uniform in only his 14th game with the franchise. More from the night’s action can be found in the latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates.

* Marner (1-1—2) factored on two of his team’s four goals to boost his career totals to 231-556—787. His 556 career assists rank 13th in NHL history through 700 career games and the third most among active players behind Team Canada teammates Connor McDavid (701) and Sidney Crosby (597).

* Hughes, one of eight defensemen since 1992-93 to record six three-assist outings in a single season (also 9 in 2023-24), recorded his 29th career three-assist game and tied Borje Salming and Larry Murphy for the ninth most by a blueliner in NHL history.

Ovechkin can reach 20-goal mark against Stamkos on Sportsnet 360 Sunday

Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals (23-16-6, 52 points) square off with Steven Stamkos and the Predators (20-20-4, 44 points) on Sportsnet 360 in one of five games Sunday. Ovechkin needs one goal to record his 21st career 20-goal season and pass Ron Francis (20) for the second most in NHL history behind Gordie Howe (22).

* Ovechkin, who has reached the mark in each campaign since making his League debut, would also climb within one of Howe (22 from 1949-50 – 1970-71) for the most consecutive 20-goal seasons in NHL history. Ovechkin would be the League’s third player age 40 or older with 20 goals in 46 games or fewer, following Howe (43 GP in 1968-69 & 46 GP in 1970-71) and Johnny Bucyk (42 GP in 1975-76).

* Stamkos is set to skate in his 55th career game against Ovechkin and first since becoming a 600-goal scorer on Dec. 31, 2025. Ovechkin (33-33—66 in 54 GP) has 66 career points in games against Stamkos (18-22—40 in 54 GP), tied for Ovechkin’s seventh most versus any skater behind Eric Staal (94), Martin St. Louis (73), Jordan Staal (72), Sidney Crosby (70), Vincent Lecavalier (68) and Jim Slater (67).

NBA Game Preview: Houston Rockets (22-13) vs. Sacramento Kings (8-30)

0

The Houston Rockets, riding high in the Western Conference standings with a potent offense and stout defense, head to California to face the struggling Sacramento Kings, who are mired at the bottom of the league amid injuries and poor form. This interconference matchup presents a golden opportunity for the Rockets to extend their winning ways against a Kings team that’s lost 22 of their last 25 games. While Houston’s depth and road prowess give them a clear edge, Sacramento’s home crowd could provide a spark if their remaining stars like De’Aaron Fox step up. Below is a detailed analysis of the key elements for this contest.

Venue Location

The game will be played at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California. This modern arena, with a capacity of approximately 17,500, opened in 2016 and is known for its energetic atmosphere and state-of-the-art facilities, serving as the Kings’ home court.

Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET (3:00 PM PT local time). The game will be broadcast on League Pass, with radio coverage on Sactown Sports 1140 AM and 790 AM / S: (Spanish). Streaming is available via NBA League Pass.

Injury Report

Both teams are dealing with significant absences, but the Kings’ situation is more dire, with key starters sidelined long-term. Reports are based on the latest available data as of January 10, 2026; the official report for this game was not yet submitted.

Houston Rockets:

Fred VanVleet (PG): Out – Torn ACL. Suffered the injury earlier in the season and is expected to miss the entire 2025-26 campaign.

Alperen Sengun (C): Out – Ankle injury. Expected to miss around two weeks, per head coach Ime Udoka.

Tari Eason (PF): Game-time decision – Ankle. Trending toward playing after missing recent games.

Isaiah Crawford (SF): Game-time decision – Illness. Out for the previous game but could return.

The Rockets’ backcourt and frontcourt depth are tested without VanVleet and Sengun, forcing reliance on Jalen Green and Amen Thompson.

Sacramento Kings:

Domantas Sabonis (C): Out – Knee injury. Sidelined since December 18 and expected to miss extended time.

Keegan Murray (PF): Out – Undisclosed injury. Reported to miss at least 3-4 weeks as of January 5.

Isaiah Stevens (PG): Game-time decision – Illness. Status uncertain after recent absences.

The Kings’ frontcourt is decimated without Sabonis and Murray, leaving DeMar DeRozan and De’Aaron Fox to shoulder the load.

Key Player Matchups

With injuries altering lineups, the Rockets’ athletic wings could overwhelm Sacramento’s depleted interior. Expect Houston to target mismatches in transition.

Jalen Green (Rockets SG) vs. De’Aaron Fox (Kings PG): Green’s explosive scoring (averaging high 20s recently) against Fox’s speed and playmaking. Without VanVleet, Green handles more ball; Fox must contain him to keep Sacramento in it.

Amen Thompson (Rockets SF) vs. DeMar DeRozan (Kings SF): Thompson’s versatility and defense vs. DeRozan’s mid-range mastery. Thompson could limit DeRozan inside, but DeRozan’s experience might create foul trouble.

Jabari Smith Jr. (Rockets PF) vs. Harrison Barnes or Trey Lyles (Kings PF, with Murray out): Smith’s spacing and rebounding against makeshift forwards. This frontcourt battle favors Houston’s youth and athleticism.

Dillon Brooks (Rockets SF) vs. Malik Monk (Kings SG): Brooks’ tenacious defense on Monk’s shooting. If Monk heats up from deep, it could spark Kings’ offense.

The Rockets’ depth gives them advantages across positions, especially in the paint without Sabonis.

Recent Team Forms

Houston Rockets: The Rockets are in excellent form, going 7-3 in their last 10 games with a balanced attack (averaging 118 PPG in wins). They recently blew out opponents like the Clippers but fell short in close losses. Defense has been key, holding foes under 110 in victories. Last 5: W-W-L-W-W (including a strong win over a contender).

Sacramento Kings: The Kings are reeling, with a 1-9 record in their last 10 and a three-game home losing streak. Offense has sputtered (under 100 PPG in losses), exacerbated by injuries. They managed a win against a weak team but have been blown out frequently. Last 5: L-L-L-L-W.

Series History

All-time, the Houston Rockets lead the Sacramento Kings 142-102 in 244 regular-season meetings. Recently, the series has been competitive, with each team winning one of the last two matchups (Rockets won 121-95 on December 3, 2025; Kings took the prior game). Houston has won 4 of the last 6 overall, but Sacramento has held serve at home in 3 of the last 5 at Golden 1 Center. The under has hit in 5 of the last 6 head-to-heads.

Betting Trends

Trends favor under, with Rockets’ road games going under in 5 of last 6 and Kings’ low-scoring struggles.  Rockets are 1-4 SU in last 5 vs. Kings but 7-3 ATS in last 10 overall. Kings are 0-5 SU in last 5, 1-4 ATS, and 7-13 ATS at home. Houston is 1-4 SU last 5 against Sacramento, but current form flips the script. Under has hit in 5 of Houston’s last 6 road games.

Game Odds

Houston Rockets              – 12.5

Sacramento Kings            223.5

NBA Game Preview: Atlanta Hawks (19-21) vs. Golden State Warriors (21-18)

0

The Atlanta Hawks, navigating a transitional phase after trading star point guard Trae Young, visit the Golden State Warriors, who are building momentum with their veteran core intact. This interconference clash at Chase Center could highlight the Warriors’ experience against the Hawks’ revamped lineup, featuring new additions like CJ McCollum and Kristaps Porzingis. While Golden State aims to extend their home winning streak, Atlanta seeks to leverage recent defensive improvements to pull off a road upset. Below is a comprehensive breakdown of the matchup.

Venue Location

The game will be held at Chase Center in San Francisco, California. This state-of-the-art arena, with a capacity of 18,064, opened in 2019 and is known for its vibrant atmosphere and tech-savvy features, serving as the Warriors’ home court.

Tip-off is scheduled for 10:00 PM ET (7:00 PM PT local time). The game will be broadcast on Bally Sports Southeast (Hawks feed) and NBC Sports Bay Area (Warriors feed), with streaming available via NBA League Pass.

Injury Report

Both teams have submitted preliminary reports, but statuses could change. The Hawks are integrating new players amid minor concerns, while the Warriors manage veteran workloads. Data as of January 10, 2026.

Atlanta Hawks:

CJ McCollum (PG): Probable – Quad. Expected to make his Hawks debut after being traded from Washington; has been scoring efficiently (20+ points in 13 of last 27 games).

Kristaps Porzingis (C): Day-to-day – Achilles. Listed as out for the Jan. 9 game vs. Nuggets but could return; provides spacing and rim protection when healthy.

Corey Kispert (SF): Out – Undisclosed. Recently acquired but sidelined; impacts wing depth.

Zaccharie Risacher (F): Day-to-day – Undisclosed. Rookie forward’s status uncertain, affecting perimeter defense.

Note: Team has not yet submitted full report for Jan. 11; Trae Young is no longer with the team after recent trade.

Golden State Warriors:

Gary Payton II (G): Available – Ankle. Played in Jan. 10 game vs. Kings after recent absence.

Stephen Curry (PG): Probable – Rest/conditioning. Often managed but expected to play; key to offense.

Draymond Green (PF): Probable – General soreness. Veteran rested periodically but available.

Andrew Wiggins (SF): Probable – Undisclosed. Recently out but trending toward availability.

Jonathan Kuminga (F): Probable – Undisclosed. Similar to Wiggins, expected back.

Note: Full report not submitted; team managing load after Jan. 10 game.

Key Player Matchups

With Trae Young traded, the Hawks’ offense shifts to McCollum and Porzingis (if available), facing the Warriors’ defensive anchors. Golden State’s backcourt could exploit Atlanta’s perimeter vulnerabilities.

CJ McCollum (Hawks PG, if debuting) vs. Stephen Curry (Warriors PG): McCollum’s scoring (20.9 PPG recently) against Curry’s playmaking (27 points, 10 assists in Jan. 10 win). Curry’s gravity could open lanes, but McCollum’s mid-range game tests Warriors’ defense.

Dyson Daniels (Hawks G) vs. Andrew Wiggins (Warriors SF): Daniels’ triple-double in Jan. 9 win (points, rebounds, assists) vs. Wiggins’ two-way play. Daniels anchors Hawks’ defense post-Young trade.

Kristaps Porzingis (Hawks C, if available) vs. Draymond Green (Warriors PF): Porzingis’ spacing vs. Green’s versatility. A battle of IQ and physicality in the frontcourt.

Jalen Johnson (Hawks PF) vs. Jonathan Kuminga (Warriors F): Johnson’s athleticism against Kuminga’s scoring bursts. This matchup could dictate transition opportunities.

The Warriors’ experience gives them an edge, but Hawks’ new additions could create mismatches if healthy.

Recent Team Forms

Atlanta Hawks: The Hawks have turned a corner post-trade, going 5-5 in their last 10 with improved defense (holding opponents under 100 in recent wins). They dominated Denver 110-87 on Jan. 9 (Daniels triple-double) and beat New Orleans 117-100 earlier. However, losses highlight inconsistencies (4-13 since Dec. 1 overall). Last 5: W-W-L-W-L.

Golden State Warriors: The Warriors are surging, with a 6-4 record in their last 10, averaging 116.1 PPG. They beat Sacramento 137-103 on Jan. 10 (Curry 27 points, 10 assists) and have won 3 of 4 at home. Defensive lapses in losses, but strong rebounding keys wins. Last 5: W-W-L-W-W.

Series History

All-time, the Golden State Warriors lead the Atlanta Hawks 153-149 in 302 regular-season games. Recently, the series is split, with Atlanta winning 4 of the last 10, including a 124-115 victory on March 22, 2025. Golden State has a strong home edge, winning 6 of the last 10 at Chase Center, but the Hawks took a 119-109 road win on Nov. 20, 2024. Trends favor high-scoring affairs (over in 7 of last 10).

Betting Trends

Trends lean over, with Warriors home games hitting over in 7 of last 10 and Hawks allowing 114+ in losses.

Warriors 1-4 ATS in last 5 but 12-3 SU as home favorites. Hawks 25-15 ATS on road last 40 (+8.5 units ROI), but 0-5 ATS vs. Warriors recently. Over has hit in 7 of last 10 head-to-heads.

Game Odds

Atlanta Hawks                                   235.5

Golden State Warriors                   – 6.5

NBA Game Preview: Washington Wizards (10-27) vs. Phoenix Suns (23-15)

0

The Washington Wizards, enduring a challenging season with one of the league’s worst records and defensive struggles, travel to face the Phoenix Suns, who are pushing for a top spot in the Western Conference despite some minor injury concerns. This interconference matchup could see the Suns’ high-powered offense overwhelm the Wizards’ porous defense, but Washington’s young core might keep it competitive if they exploit Phoenix’s occasional lapses. With the Suns on a winning streak and at home, expect a lopsided affair unless the Wizards’ bench steps up.

Venue Location

The game will be played at Mortgage Matchup Center (formerly known as PHX Arena or Footprint Center) in Phoenix, Arizona. This 18,000-seat arena is renowned for its electric atmosphere and has been the Suns’ home since 1992.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET (5:00 PM PT local time). The game will be broadcast on AZFamily, Suns+, and MNMT2, with streaming options via NBA League Pass.

Injury Report

Both teams have submitted preliminary reports, but final statuses may change closer to tip-off. The Wizards are relatively healthy but missing depth pieces, while the Suns manage minor ailments amid a strong campaign. Data as of January 10, 2026.

Washington Wizards:

Malcolm Brogdon (PG): Out – Right thumb sprain. Has missed recent games and no timeline for return.

Saddiq Bey (SF): Questionable – Undisclosed (potentially illness or minor strain from recent reports).

Note: The team has only two players officially listed, but young starters like Alex Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly are healthy and expected to play heavy minutes.

Phoenix Suns:

Jamaree Bouyea (PG): Out – Concussion. Ruled out after missing Friday’s game.

Jalen Green (SG): Probable – Right hamstring strain. Upgraded and expected to play after being game-time decision recently.

Grayson Allen (SG): Questionable – Undisclosed (listed in some reports, potentially rest or minor issue).

Note: Core stars like Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal are healthy and coming off strong performances.

Key Player Matchups

The Suns’ veteran scoring trio holds clear advantages over Washington’s youth, but mismatches in the paint and perimeter could keep the Wizards afloat if they shoot well from deep.

Kyle Kuzma (Wizards PF) vs. Kevin Durant (Suns SF/PF): Kuzma’s scoring versatility (averaging mid-20s PPG) against Durant’s elite two-way play (high efficiency recently). Durant could exploit switches for easy buckets, but Kuzma’s physicality might force turnovers.

Jordan Poole (Wizards PG) vs. Bradley Beal (Suns SG): Poole’s quickness and three-point shooting vs. Beal’s scoring prowess (recently 20+ PPG). This reunion matchup (Beal formerly with Wizards) adds intrigue, with Beal likely to dominate defensively.

Alex Sarr (Wizards C) vs. Jusuf Nurkic (Suns C): Rookie Sarr’s athleticism and blocking vs. Nurkic’s rebounding and passing. Without major injuries, Nurkic could control the boards against Washington’s weak interior.

Bilal Coulibaly (Wizards SG) vs. Devin Booker (Suns PG/SG): Coulibaly’s defense on Booker’s hot streak (31 points in last game). Booker might feast if Green is limited, pulling defenders for open looks.

The Suns’ depth gives them edges across the board, but Wizards’ guards could heat up in transition.

Recent Team Forms

Washington Wizards: The Wizards have shown flashes but remain inconsistent, going 5-5 in their last 10 games with an average of 114.9 PPG. Their defense allows 124.3 PPG overall, highlighted by a recent 110-131 loss to Philadelphia (Jan. 7). Wins have come against weaker teams, but losses feature blowouts. Last 5: L-W-L-W-L (mixed results against Eastern foes).

Phoenix Suns: The Suns are heating up, winning 7 of their last 10 with strong offense (112+ PPG in wins). Recent victories include 112-107 over New York (Jan. 9, Booker 31 points) and 117-98 at Memphis (Jan. 7). Defense has improved at home. Last 5: W-W-L-W-W (solid against varied opponents).

Series History

All-time, the Phoenix Suns hold a slight 71-69 edge over the Washington Wizards in 140 regular-season meetings. Recently, the Suns have dominated, winning the last five encounters, including a 115-101 victory on December 29, 2025 (Brooks led scoring). Washington is 0-5 SU in their last five against Phoenix and struggles on the road in the series (3-13 SU last 16 away games overall).

Betting Trends

Trends favor over, as Suns games hit over in 7 of last 10 at home, and Wizards allow high points (124.3 PPG conceded). Suns are 9-1 ATS in last 10 and 26-12 ATS overall this season. Wizards are 0-5 SU/ATS vs. Suns recently and 1-4 ATS in last 5 road games. Phoenix is 8-2 SU in last 10 overall; Washington 3-13 SU on road last 16.

Game Odds

Washington Wizards      229.5

Phoenix Suns                     – 13.5
