0

Game Details

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM PST

Venue: Intuit Dome, Inglewood, California

Broadcast: The game will be available on national and local NBA broadcasts, with live coverage on platforms like ESPN and NBA League Pass.

The Los Angeles Clippers (15-23) host the Charlotte Hornets (14-25) in a cross-conference matchup at the Intuit Dome. Both teams are hovering in the lower tiers of their respective conferences—the Clippers sit 11th in the Western Conference, while the Hornets are 12th in the Eastern Conference. This game marks the second meeting between the two this season, with the Clippers looking to extend their dominance in the series. Charlotte enters on a three-game road winning streak and aims to push it to four, but they’ll face a Clippers squad that’s been resurgent lately, winning 9 of their past 11 games overall. The Hornets have shown defensive improvements, holding four of their last five opponents under 100 points, while the Clippers have emphasized stout defense in their recent surge, holding opponents below 100 points four times in their past 11 contests. Key storylines include the return of Hornets forward Grant Williams from a major knee injury and the Clippers’ ability to rally late, as evidenced by their recent comeback against the Pistons.

Recent Team Forms

Both teams have gone 3-2 in their last five games, but the broader trends show momentum on the Clippers’ side. Charlotte has secured half of their 14 wins since December 14, 2025, with standout offensive outbursts like their 150-point explosion against the Jazz. The Clippers, meanwhile, have turned things around with a 9-2 run in their past 11, fueled by better defense and clutch performances.

Injury Report

Injuries could play a significant role, particularly with several game-time decisions on both sides. The Hornets recently welcomed back Grant Williams from a torn ACL and meniscus (he last played in November 2025), contributing 9 points and 8 rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench in their win over Utah. For the Clippers, no new major injuries were reported beyond the listed absences, but Kawhi Leonard’s ankle is worth monitoring given his heavy workload in their recent surge.

Charlotte Hornets:

Pat Connaughton (G): Game-Time Decision (Illness) – Estimated Return: Jan 12, 2026

Collin Sexton (G): Game-Time Decision (Hamstring) – Estimated Return: Jan 12, 2026

Miles Bridges (F): Game-Time Decision (Knee) – Estimated Return: Jan 12, 2026

Mason Plumlee (C): Out (Groin) – Estimated Return: Feb 11, 2026

Grant Williams (F): Available (Returned from ACL/meniscus injury)

Los Angeles Clippers:

Kawhi Leonard (F): Game-Time Decision (Ankle) – Estimated Return: Jan 12, 2026

Bogdan Bogdanovic (G): Out (Hamstring) – Estimated Return: Jan 14, 2026

Derrick Jones Jr. (F): Out (Knee) – Estimated Return: Feb 19, 2026

Bradley Beal (G): Out for Season (Hip) – Estimated Return: Oct 1, 2026

Key Player Matchups

This game features intriguing battles between star talent and role players. The Clippers’ resurgence has been driven by Kawhi Leonard (averaging 32.5 points and 7.5 rebounds over their 9-2 run, up from season averages of 27.8 points and 6.4 rebounds) and James Harden, while the Hornets counter with a young, explosive core led by LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Expect the Hornets to emphasize defensive communication against the Clippers’ pick-and-roll threats.

LaMelo Ball (Hornets PG) vs. James Harden (Clippers PG): Ball’s creativity (17 points, 5/11 from three in the Jazz win) meets Harden’s veteran savvy. Harden torched Charlotte for a franchise-record 55 points in their earlier meeting this season.

Miles Bridges (Hornets F) vs. Kawhi Leonard (Clippers F): Bridges (GTD with knee issue) brings athleticism, but Leonard’s two-way dominance (26 points in the Pistons win) could overwhelm if his ankle holds up.

Brandon Miller (Hornets G/F) vs. Kris Dunn (Clippers SG): Miller’s scoring (18 points vs. Jazz) against Dunn’s defensive tenacity.

Tre Mann (Hornets G) vs. John Collins (Clippers PF): Mann’s bench spark (20 points, all in the fourth vs. Jazz) could exploit mismatches, while Collins (25 points vs. Pistons) provides rim protection and scoring inside.

Collin Sexton (Hornets G, GTD) vs. Ivica Zubac (Clippers C): Sexton’s speed (15 points off bench vs. Jazz) vs. Zubac’s size in the paint.

Series History

The Clippers have owned this matchup, winning 15 straight games against the Hornets dating back to December 31, 2017. Overall, Los Angeles holds a 44-25 edge in 69 regular-season meetings. In their first matchup this season on November 22, 2025, the Clippers won 131-116 on the road, highlighted by Harden’s 55-point explosion. Charlotte’s last win over the Clippers came in 2017, and they’ve struggled to contain L.A.’s stars in recent years.

Betting Trends

The Clippers opened as 5.5-point favorites but the line has moved to 4.5, reflecting some respect for Charlotte’s road streak. The over/under has settled around 223.5-224.5, down slightly from the open. Charlotte has been strong against the spread (ATS) as underdogs of 5.5+ points (12-7 this season), while the Clippers are 9-2 straight up in their recent hot streak but have allowed high point totals in losses (e.g., 146 to Boston). Both teams trend toward the under in recent games, with the Hornets holding opponents low and the Clippers emphasizing defense. Consensus picks lean toward the Clippers to win and cover, but the total going over.

NBA Game Preview: Los Angeles Lakers (23-13) vs. Sacramento Kings (9-30)

0

The Los Angeles Lakers travel to Sacramento to face the struggling Kings in a Pacific Division matchup on January 12, 2026. The Lakers, holding strong in the Western Conference playoff race, look to extend their dominance over the Kings, having won the last six head-to-heads. Sacramento, mired in an eight-game losing streak and plagued by injuries, enters as heavy underdogs. Key storylines include LeBron James and Luka Doncic leading the Lakers’ potent offense against a depleted Kings squad featuring DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine. Expect the Lakers’ depth and experience to shine, potentially turning this into a blowout if Sacramento’s absences limit their scoring.

Venue

Location: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, California

Tip-Off Time: 7:00 p.m. PT (10:00 p.m. ET)

TV/Streaming: NBCS-CA, SportsNet LA; available on NBA League Pass

Golden 1 Center has been tough for the Kings this season, with a 5-15 home record and opponents averaging 118.2 PPG there.

Injury Report

Both teams are impacted by injuries, but the Kings are hit harder, missing multiple starters.

Los Angeles Lakers Injuries:

Austin Reaves (G): Out – Left Calf Strain

Adou Thiero (G/F): Out – Right MCL Sprain

Rui Hachimura (F): Probable – Calf (full participant in practice, likely to return off the bench)

Without Reaves, the Lakers lose playmaking (averaging 18.2 PPG, 6.1 APG), but Doncic and James can compensate. Hachimura’s potential return adds shooting (best catch-and-shoot player on team).

Sacramento Kings Injuries:

Dennis Schroder (G): Out – Suspension

Keegan Murray (F): Out – Ankle

Domantas Sabonis (C): Out – Knee

Isaiah Stevens (G): Out – Undisclosed

The Kings are without their top rebounder (Sabonis, 13.2 RPG) and key wing (Murray, 15.8 PPG), forcing reliance on DeRozan and LaVine for scoring. Expect more minutes for Russell Westbrook and Malik Monk.

Key Player Matchups

Injuries shift the balance toward the Lakers’ stars exploiting Sacramento’s weaknesses.

Luka Doncic (LAL) vs. DeMar DeRozan (SAC): Doncic (team-high 29.4 PPG, 8.7 APG) thrives in pick-and-rolls and could torch the Kings’ perimeter defense (120.1 PPG allowed, 29th in NBA). DeRozan (23.1 PPG) will counter with mid-range scoring, but Doncic’s playmaking gives the edge.

LeBron James (LAL) vs. Zach LaVine (SAC): James (25.6 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 7.9 APG) dominates transitions and could feast inside without Sabonis. LaVine (22.4 PPG) provides scoring punch, but James’ versatility (top-10 in assists) should overwhelm.

Deandre Ayton (LAL) vs. Whoever Steps Up (SAC): Ayton (14.8 PPG, 9.6 RPG) controls the paint. With Sabonis out, the Kings’ frontcourt (e.g., Nique Clifford or backups) will struggle on the boards.

Bench notes: Lakers’ Jaxson Hayes adds rim protection; Kings lean on Westbrook for

energy.

NBA Game Preview: Brooklyn Nets (11-25) vs. Dallas Mavericks (14-25)

0

The Brooklyn Nets travel to Dallas to face the Mavericks in a cross-conference matchup on January 12, 2026. The Nets are mired in a three-game losing streak and sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, struggling with consistency and injuries. The Mavericks, also under .500, are dealing with a depleted roster but have shown flashes of resilience at home. This is the second meeting this season, with Dallas winning the first 119-111 on December 12. Key storylines include rookie sensations like Cooper Flagg for Dallas and Egor Demin for Brooklyn, as both teams lean on youth amid absences. Dallas enters as favorites, aiming to capitalize on Brooklyn’s defensive woes (117.1 PPG allowed, 27th in NBA).

Venue

Location: American Airlines Center, Dallas, Texas

Tip-Off Time: 8:30 p.m. ET (5:30 p.m. PT)

TV/Streaming: YES, KFAA; available on NBA League Pass

American Airlines Center has been a moderate haven for the Mavericks, with a 10-10 home record and a 112.9 PPG scoring average there.

Injury Report

Injuries are ravaging both squads, limiting depth and forcing reliance on rookies and role players.

Brooklyn Nets Injuries:

Michael Porter Jr. (F): Out – Rest

Drake Powell (G): Questionable – Knee

Ziaire Williams (F): Questionable – Illness

E.J. Liddell (F): Questionable – Knee

Haywood Highsmith (F): Out – Knee

Ben Saraf (G): Questionable – Knee

Without Porter Jr. (team-high 25.9 PPG), the Nets’ offense takes a massive hit. Highsmith’s absence weakens perimeter defense, and if Williams sits, Brooklyn’s wing rotation thins further.

Dallas Mavericks Injuries:

Anthony Davis (F/C): Out – Left Finger Sprain

Kyrie Irving (G): Out – Left Knee Surgery

Dereck Lively II (C): Out – Right Foot Surgery

Dante Exum (G): Out – Right Knee Surgery

P.J. Washington (F): Doubtful – Right Ankle Sprain

Brandon Williams (G): Doubtful – Illness

Moussa Cisse (C): Questionable – Right Shoulder Sprain

Miles Kelly (G): Questionable – G League Two-Way

Dallas is without its star big man Davis (expected multi-month absence due to ligament damage) and key guard Irving, crippling their interior and playmaking. If Washington sits, the frontcourt is even thinner, relying on Daniel Gafford and Maxi Kleber.

Key Player Matchups

Injuries shift focus to emerging talents and secondary options in this low-scoring potential affair.

Cooper Flagg (DAL) vs. Noah Clowney (BKN): Flagg, the No. 1 rookie (19.0 PPG, 6.6 RPG), brings athleticism and scoring versatility. Clowney (13.2 PPG, strong 3PT shooter at 32.1%) must contain Flagg’s drives while stretching the floor. This rookie battle could decide rebounding edges.

Cam Thomas (BKN) vs. Max Christie (DAL): With Porter out, Thomas (scoring threat, e.g., 51 PTS vs. NYK) shoulders the load. Christie must disrupt Thomas’s rhythm, but Dallas’s backcourt depth issues could allow Thomas to exploit mismatches.

Nic Claxton (BKN) vs. Daniel Gafford (DAL): Claxton (13.1 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 1.3 BPG) anchors Brooklyn’s paint. With Davis out, Gafford steps up for Dallas, but Claxton’s efficiency (58% FG) could dominate the boards.

Bench notes: Brooklyn’s Tyrese Martin and Day’Ron Sharpe provide energy; Dallas leans on D’Angelo Russell and Naji Marshall for scoring punch.

Recent Team Forms

Brooklyn is 4-6 in its last 10, with poor defense (113.9 PPG allowed); Dallas is 3-7, hampered by injuries but competitive at home.

NBA Game Preview: Philadelphia Sixers (21-16) vs. Toronto Raptors (24-16)

0

The Philadelphia 76ers face the Toronto Raptors in a quick rematch on January 12, 2026, following Toronto’s 116-115 overtime victory the previous day. This Eastern Conference clash pits two playoff contenders against each other, with the Raptors holding a 2-1 edge in the season series so far. Philadelphia, fifth in the East, seeks revenge without key contributors, while Toronto, third in the Atlantic, aims to extend its three-game home win streak despite a lengthy injury list. Expect a gritty, low-scoring affair given the back-to-back scheduling and depleted rosters, highlighted by Tyrese Maxey’s scoring prowess against Toronto’s balanced attack led by Scottie Barnes.

Venue

Location: Scotiabank Arena, Toronto, Ontario

Tip-Off Time: 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT)

TV/Streaming: SportsNet, NBCS-PH+; available on NBA League Pass

Scotiabank Arena has been kind to the Raptors this season, where they’ve posted a 13-8 record and a defensive rating of 109.2 points allowed per game at home.

Injury Report

Both teams are battling significant injuries, impacting depth and potentially leading to a slower pace.

Philadelphia 76ers Injuries:

Joel Embiid (C): Questionable – Left Knee (Injury Management)

Paul George (F): Out – Left Knee Soreness

Without Embiid (if he sits) and George, the Sixers lose 48.9 combined PPG, forcing reliance on Maxey and the bench for scoring.

Toronto Raptors Injuries:

RJ Barrett (F): Out – Left Ankle Sprain

Brandon Ingram (F): Questionable – Right Thumb Sprain

Jakob Poeltl (C): Out – Back

Chucky Hepburn (G): Out – Right Knee (Surgery Recovery)

Ja’Kobe Walter (G): Questionable – Right Hip Pointer

The Raptors are missing 54.2 combined PPG from Barrett, Ingram, and Poeltl, thinning their frontcourt and wing options.

Key Player Matchups

Injuries alter typical battles, but star guards and forwards will dictate the flow in this rematch.

Tyrese Maxey (PHI) vs. Immanuel Quickley (TOR): Maxey (30.9 PPG, 6.8 APG) exploded for 38 points in Sunday’s loss and ranks top-5 in scoring. Quickley (18.5 PPG, 5.8 APG) must contain Maxey’s drives, but Toronto’s perimeter defense (113.3 PPG allowed away) could struggle if Walter sits.

Scottie Barnes (TOR) vs. Kelly Oubre Jr. (PHI): Barnes (20.5 PPG, 8.8 RPG, 7.5 APG) delivered 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists in the win, thriving in transition. With George out, Oubre (13.2 PPG) steps up defensively, but Barnes’ versatility could exploit mismatches.

Joel Embiid (PHI, if available) vs. Collin Murray-Boyles (TOR): Embiid (25.4 PPG, 10.2 RPG) dominates inside, but Poeltl’s absence leaves Murray-Boyles (rookie with 11.4 PPG, 7.6 RPG) overmatched. If Embiid sits, Andre Drummond (7.0 PPG, 8.8 RPG) battles for boards.

Bench notes: Philadelphia’s Quentin Grimes and VJ Edgecombe provide shooting; Toronto relies on Jamal Shead’s energy (career-high 22 points Sunday).

Recent Team Forms

Philadelphia is 6-4 in its last 10 but coming off a heartbreaking OT loss; Toronto is 7-3, riding a three-game home streak.

NBA Game Preview: Boston Celtics (24-14) vs. Indiana Pacers (8-31)

0

The Boston Celtics hit the road to face the struggling Indiana Pacers in an Eastern Conference matchup on January 12, 2026. Boston, sitting third in the East, aims to extend their three-game road win streak despite significant injuries, including the absence of Jayson Tatum. The Pacers, last in the Central Division and riding a surprising two-game win streak, are dealing with a depleted roster but have shown recent fight at home. This game marks the third meeting this season, with Boston winning the first two convincingly. Expect a defensive battle if key players sit, but Boston’s depth should prevail.

Venue

Location: Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, Indiana

Tip-Off Time: 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT)

TV/Streaming: Peacock, NBCS-BOS; available on NBA League Pass

Gainbridge Fieldhouse has been a mixed bag for the Pacers this season, with a 6-15 home record but recent wins injecting some energy.

Injury Report

Both teams are hit hard by injuries, thinning out rotations and potentially slowing the pace.

Boston Celtics Injuries:

Jaylen Brown (SF): Doubtful – Low Back Spasms

Sam Hauser (PF): Questionable – Right Hamstring Tightness

Josh Minott (PF): Out – Left Ankle Sprain

Jayson Tatum (SF): Out – Right Achilles Repair

Without Tatum, Boston’s scoring drops, but Brown (if he plays) has shouldered the load, averaging 30+ in recent revenge spots. Minott’s absence limits bench athleticism.

Indiana Pacers Injuries:

Tyrese Haliburton (PG): Out – Right Achilles Tendon Tear

Isaiah Jackson (PF): Out – Concussion

Bennedict Mathurin (SG): Out – Right Thumb Sprain

Obi Toppin (PF): Out – Right Foot Stress Fracture

Andrew Nembhard (SG): Questionable – Low Back Soreness

Kam Jones (G): Questionable – G League Assignment

Taelon Peter (F): Questionable – G League Two-Way

Ethan Thompson (G): Questionable – G League Two-Way

The Pacers are without their star point guard Haliburton for the season, severely impacting playmaking. Mathurin and Toppin’s absences weaken the wing and frontcourt, forcing reliance on Pascal Siakam and Myles Turner.

Key Player Matchups

Injuries shift dynamics, but expect Boston’s veterans to exploit Indiana’s youth and absences.

Jaylen Brown (BOS, if available) vs. Pascal Siakam (IND): Brown (25.4 PPG) has torched Indiana lately, averaging 30.5 in the last two meetings. Siakam (23.6 PPG, team-high) must anchor the Pacers’ offense and defense, but Boston’s length could force turnovers.

Jrue Holiday (BOS) vs. Andrew Nembhard (IND, if available): Holiday’s elite defense (1.5 SPG) could stifle Nembhard (14.2 PPG), who’s questionable. If Nembhard sits, Indiana’s backcourt thins, giving Holiday free rein to facilitate (7.1 APG).

Kristaps Porzingis (BOS) vs. Myles Turner (IND): Porzingis (20.8 PPG, 2.1 BPG) dominates the paint, while Turner (17.5 PPG, 2.3 BPG) provides rim protection. This big-man duel could decide rebounding (Boston ranks top-5 at 46.3 RPG).

Bench notes: Boston’s Payton Pritchard and Neemias Queta add shooting and energy; Indiana leans on Aaron Nesmith for perimeter defense.

Recent Team Forms

Boston is inconsistent but strong on the road lately; Indiana snapped a skid with back-to-back wins.

NBA Game Preview: Utah Jazz (13-25) vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (22-18)

0

The Utah Jazz head to Cleveland for a non-conference matchup against the Cavaliers on January 12, 2026. The Jazz are struggling this season, sitting near the bottom of the Western Conference with a dismal road record, while the Cavaliers are holding steady in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. This game features intriguing storylines, including Donovan Mitchell facing his former team and Lauri Markkanen returning to the arena where he briefly played early in his career. Cleveland enters as heavy favorites, looking to build on a recent high-scoring win, while Utah aims to rebound from one of the franchise’s worst losses.

Venue

Location: Rocket Arena, Cleveland, Ohio

Tip-Off Time: 7:00 p.m. ET (4:00 p.m. PT)

TV/Streaming: KJZZ, Jazz+, FDSOH; available on NBA League Pass

Rocket Arena has been a fortress for the Cavaliers this season, where they’ve gone 14-9 with a strong defensive rating of 105.7 points allowed per game at home.

Injury Report

Both teams are dealing with key absences that could impact rotations and defensive schemes.

Utah Jazz Injuries:

Ace Bailey (G): Questionable – Left Hip Flexor Strain

Jusuf Nurkic (C): Probable – Left 1st MTP Sprain

Georges Niang (F): Out – Left Foot (Fourth Metatarsal Stress Reaction)

Walker Kessler (C): Out – Left Shoulder (Injury Recovery)

Elijah Harkless (G), John Tonje (F), Oscar Tshiebwe (F): Out – G League Assignment

The Jazz are thin in the frontcourt without Kessler and Niang, putting extra pressure on Markkanen and Nurkic (if he plays) to handle rebounding and interior defense.

Cleveland Cavaliers Injuries:

Dean Wade (F): Out – Left Knee Contusion

Max Strus (G/F): Out – Left Foot (Surgery – Jones Fracture)

Chris Livingston (F), Luke Travers (F): Out – G League Assignment

The Cavs miss Strus’s shooting and Wade’s versatility, but their core of Mitchell, Garland, Mobley, and Allen remains intact.

Key Player Matchups

This game pits elite scorers against vulnerable defenses. Expect high-volume shots from the stars.

Donovan Mitchell (CLE) vs. Keyonte George/Brice Sensabaugh (UTA): Mitchell, averaging 29.8 PPG (4th in NBA), returns against his old team where he starred from 2017-22. Utah’s backcourt has struggled defensively (118.7 road rating, 28th in league), so Mitchell could exploit mismatches for 30+ points.

George (starting PG) will need to contain Mitchell’s drives, but Sensabaugh’s youth might lead to fouls.

Lauri Markkanen (UTA) vs. Evan Mobley (CLE): Markkanen (27.9 PPG, 10th in NBA) is Utah’s top scorer and a stretch big who played for Cleveland in 2021-22. Mobley, a defensive anchor (averaging 2.0 blocks), will challenge Markkanen’s perimeter game. If Nurkic plays, this could turn into a battle of the bigs with Jarrett Allen.

Darius Garland (CLE) vs. Cody Williams (UTA): Garland’s playmaking (8.0 APG) could carve up Utah’s perimeter defense. Williams, a rookie, brings length but lacks experience against elite guards.

Other notes: Cleveland’s bench (Merrill, Tyson) has stepped up recently, while Utah relies on youth like Hendricks and Collier for energy.

Recent Team Forms

The Jazz are in a tailspin, while the Cavaliers are inconsistent but coming off a statement win.

NHL Morning Skate – Jan. 12, 2026

* Roman Josi and Steven Stamkos helped the Predators prevail against fellow veteran Alex Ovechkin, who reached the 20-goal mark for the 21st time in as many seasons.

* Zach Werenski assisted on the Blue Jackets’ overtime winner to tie former teammate Seth Jones atop a franchise list. Werenski and Jones are set to reunite as part of Team USA’s defense corps at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

* Monday’s schedule is set to feature another “Hughes Bowl,” several streaks on the line, the No. 91 being retired as well as a Prime Monday Night Hockey game between the Canucks and Canadiens, one of several all-Canadian national telecasts slated for the week ahead including three during the 26th annual Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada.

Veterans Josi, Stamkos pilot Predators past Ovechkin, Capitals

Roman Josi (1-2—3) and Steven Stamkos (1-1—2) combined for five points as the Predators (21-20-4, 46 points) climbed closer to the Western Conference’s final Wild Card spot and improved to 8-4-0 (16 points) in their last 12 games dating to Dec. 20, 2025.

* Josi and fellow NHL captain Nico Hischier are set to lead Team Switzerland into the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 in Italy, a country where the program had a noteworthy win nearly 20 years ago. Martin Gerber stopped 49 shots in the Swiss’ upset victory versus Team Canada during the round robin of the Torino Games, marking the most saves in a shutout win at an Olympics with NHL players.

Alex Ovechkin (1-1—2) opened the scoring to record his 21st career 20-goal season and pass Ron Francis (20) for the second most in NHL history behind Gordie Howe (22), while also moving within one of Howe (22 from 1949-50 – 1970-71) for the most consecutive 20-goal campaigns in League history. Ovechkin became the NHL’s third player age 40 or older with 20 goals in 46 games or fewer, following Howe (43 GP in 1968-69 & 46 GP in 1970-71) and Johnny Bucyk (42 GP in 1975-76).

* Ovechkin continues THE GR8 CHASE for Victory Over Cancer with the Capitals, Hockey Fights Cancer and V Foundation by personally donating to pediatric cancer research for each regular-season goal he scores for the remainder of his career. Click here for details.

victories BY vegas, WINNIPEG, BOSTON AND COLUMBUS FEATURED IN LIVE UPDATES
Sunday’s edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured more notes from the five-game slate to cap the first full week of 2026. Some highlights include:

Tomas Hertl (2-3—5) had a franchise record-tying five points and Mark Stone (0-3—3) extended his scoring streak to eight games as the Golden Knights (21-11-12, 54 points) padded their lead atop the Pacific Division. Stone has found the score sheet in 25 of his 28 contests this season (89.3%), which marks the highest percentage in the NHL (min. 2 GP). Connor McDavid (39 of 45 GP; 86.7%) ranks second.

* Josh Morrissey (0-2—2) assisted on the game-winning goal in the third period to cap his 89th career multi-point outing and tied Dustin Byfuglien for the most by a defenseman in franchise history. The victory also made Connor Hellebuyck the fourth active goaltender to record 10-plus wins in each of his first 11 seasons, joining Sergei Bobrovsky (16), Cam Talbot (13) and Frederik Andersen (12).

Viktor Arvidsson had the lone goal and Joonas Korpisalo turned aside all 27 shots he faced as the Bruins followed up their 10-2 victory on Saturday with a shutout win during the 7,000th regular-season game in franchise history. Korpisalo became Boston’s first goaltender with a shutout against Pittsburgh since Tuukka Rask (Dec. 16, 2015).

Zach Werenski factored on the goal in extra time and matched his former Blue Jackets teammate, Seth Jones (21), for the most overtime points in franchise history. Werenski also became the first Columbus player to record 50 career assists on game-winning goals. Werenski and Jones will be teammates once again when they suit up for Team USA at the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.

Game Details

Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM ET (6:00 PM CT local time).

Venue: Target Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Broadcast: Available on FDSN (Timberwolves local), FDSSW (Spurs local), and NBA League Pass.

Context: This Western Conference matchup pits two top-tier teams against each other, with the Spurs entering as the road underdogs despite their superior record. The Spurs are coming off a back-to-back after playing the Celtics the night before, which could factor into fatigue, while the Timberwolves had a day off following their win over the Cavaliers.

Recent Team Forms

The Spurs have been inconsistent lately but remain competitive on the road, winning 3 of their last 5 games with strong defensive showings. Their offense has averaged 115.8 points in that stretch, but turnovers have been an issue in losses.

The Timberwolves, meanwhile, are surging, winning 4 of their last 5, including high-scoring victories fueled by efficient shooting (season-high percentages in their latest win).

Rocco Zikarsky (C): Questionable – Undisclosed.

Anthony Edwards (G): Probable – Foot (played through on Jan 10).

Key Player Matchups

This game features intriguing battles, particularly in the frontcourt where defense will be tested.

Victor Wembanyama (SAS) vs. Rudy Gobert (MIN): The young phenom (averaging 24.5 PPG, 11.2 RPG, 4.1 BPG) faces the veteran Defensive Player of the Year. Wembanyama’s perimeter skills could pull Gobert out, but Gobert’s rim protection (2.8 BPG) might limit drives.

Chris Paul (SAS) vs. Mike Conley (MIN): Veteran point guard duel; Paul’s playmaking (8.7 APG) vs. Conley’s efficiency (if he plays). If Conley sits, Donte DiVincenzo steps up.

Keldon Johnson (SAS) vs. Anthony Edwards (MIN): Johnson’s scoring (18.4 PPG) against Edwards’ explosiveness (26.1 PPG). Edwards’ athleticism could exploit mismatches.

Jeremy Sochan (SAS) vs. Julius Randle (MIN): Sochan’s versatility defends Randle’s post-up game (22.3 PPG, 9.8 RPG).

Series History

The Spurs hold a dominant all-time edge, winning 95 of 140 regular-season meetings against the Timberwolves (45 wins for MIN).

However, recent games have been competitive:

Last 5 Head-to-Head: Split 2-3 (MIN wins: Nov 30, 2025: 125-112; Mar 9, 2025: 141-124; Dec 29, 2024: 112-110. SAS wins: Dec 15, 2024: 106-92; Nov 2, 2024: 113-103).

At Target Center: Spurs are 6-4 in last 10 visits, but Timberwolves have won 3 of the last 5 home games against SAS.
