The Toronto Blue Jays have reinstated LHP Hyun Jin Ryu from the 10-day injured list (neck tightness) and he will start tonight’s game. To make room on the active roster, LHP Kirby Snead has been optioned to Triple-A Buffalo.

Dodgers activate Cody Bellinger

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder/outfielder Cody Bellinger from the injured list and placed infielder Albert Pujols on the injured list.

 

Bellinger, 26, was placed on the injured list with a left rib fracture, missing eight games. He has played in 89 games this year and is batting .159 with nine doubles, nine homers and 34 RBI. The 2019 National League MVP has been with the Dodgers five seasons, batting a combined .257 with 107 doubles, 132 homers and 352 RBI. The 2017 National League Rookie of the Year was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fourth round of the 2013 First Year Player Draft out of Hamilton High School.

 

Pujols, 41, has been with the Dodgers since May 17 and he is batting .255 (47-for-184) with 12 homers and 38 RBI in 82 games with the Boys in Blue. The three-time National League Most Valuable Player is in his 21st season in the Major Leagues and has amassed 679 homers and 2,150 RBI in 2,968 career games. His 679 homers are the most by any active player and rank fifth all-time, trailing Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714) and Alex Rodriguez (696).

Charlie Barnes recalled from Triple-A St. Paul

 

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed right-handed pitcher Bailey Ober on the 10-day Injured List with a right hip strain.

 

Ober has started 20 games for the Twins this season, going 3-3 with a 4.19 ERA (92.1 IP, 43 ER), 19 walks and 96 strikeouts.

 

To replace Ober on the 28-man roster, the Twins have recalled left-handed pitcher Charlie Barnes from Triple-A St. Paul. Barnes has started 16 games for the Saints this season, going 6-4 with a 3.79 ERA (76.0 IP, 32 ER), 24 walks and 62 strikeouts. He has also appeared in seven games (6 starts) for the Twins this season, going 0-3 with a 6.61 ERA (31.1 IP, 23 ER), 12 walks and 15 strikeouts. Barnes is due to start for the Twins tonight against Detroit.

NEW YORK – Split-T Management has announced the signing of 2021 United States Olympian Tiger Johnson.

 

Johnson, 23 years-old of Cleveland, Ohio, will compete as a welterweight in the professional ranks.

 

“Signing with Split-T Management is a dream come true. I have a great relationship with (Split-T Management CEO) Dave McWater. He has seen me fight as a youth, and has followed my amateur career very closely. I am very comfortable with Dave and his team because he has taught me a lot about life outside the ring, and has given me great advice. Being that comfortable has helped me in the ring,” said Johnson.

 

“Tiger is just such a special kid. I first saw him in Reno in January of 2016, and I immediately knew that he was going to be a star. I am excited to be part of his journey,” said McWater.

 

Johnson began boxing at the age of seven as he had uncles and cousins who were professional boxers, including former light heavyweights Darrel Johnson (11-3-1, 8 KOs) and Ronald Johnson (17-1, 4 KOs).

 

Tiger Johnson had a highly decorated amateur career finishing with a record of 188-17, and saw him win a Gold Medal in the 2016 Youth World Championships; a Bronze Medal at the 2019 Pan Am Games; a 2019 Last Chance Qualifier Championship; Four 2017 Elite National Championships; a 2016 Elite National Championship; a 2015 Youth National Championship; and a 2014 National Junior Olympic Championship.

 

Johnson made it to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo before losing to the eventual Gold Medal winner, Cuban Roniel Iglesias.

 

In his spare time, Johnson makes musical beats and is an avid reader of comic books.

 

Johnson is trained by widely respected Cleveland trainer Renard Sefo and former professional fighter Prenice Brewer.

  • Ottawa’s Devonte Dedmon has 3 kick return TDs in 10 career CFL games after returning a punt 63 yards against Hamilton last week. The fastest to three career kick return touchdowns was Keith Stokes, who managed the feat in his first six games in 2002.
  • Taylor Cornelius began slowly in his first career CFL start with 3 straight incompletions. From there, he went 8-of-9 to finish the 1st half, before going 19-of-33 for 243 yards overall. He was especially impressive in mid-range (10-19-yard) passes, going 7-for-11 for 122 yards.
  • Since 2014, Edmonton is 8-5 following a bye week. Teams coming off a bye this year are 3-4.
  • Edmonton’s Greg Ellingson will be looking to extend his streak of games with a reception to 67 on Tuesday night, while matched up against his former team, the Ottawa REDBLACKS.
  • Last week, Saskatchewan scored on its long touchdown drive and on the ensuing kickoff by recovering a fumble and returning it. It was the two fastest touchdowns scored by the same team in league history.
  • Three teams remain undefeated at home this year:

  • The last time Toronto started 4-0 at home was in 1997 – they went on to win the 85th Grey Cup that season.

DRAMATIC ENDINGS, RESURGENT TEAMS & YOUNG QUARTERBACKS: GET READY FOR MORE IN WEEK 4

Like a poem written by Steve Sabol and narrated by John Facenda, complete with a score composed by Sam Spence, the 2021 NFL season somehow continues to get better as it rolls along.

Week 3 featured five games decided in the final minute of regulation or overtime. One of those contests ended with the longest field goal in NFL history, JUSTIN TUCKER’s 66-yarder to lift Baltimore. Eleven of 16 games in Week 3 were within one score (eight points) in the final quarter.

What’s in store for Week 4? Take a deep breath.

For starters, this week features a clash of undefeated NFC West rivals in Los Angeles, and TOM BRADY and ROB GRONKOWSKI returning to New England, where Brady needs 68 passing yards to break the NFL’s career record. ANDY REID returns to Philadelphia with an opportunity to become the first coach in NFL annals to win 100 games with one franchise and 100 with another.

If that’s not enough, how about a pair of resurgent division leaders, the CAROLINA PANTHERS (3-0) and DALLAS COWBOYS (2-1), at AT&T Stadium, or two of the most prolific passers in league history, BEN ROETHLISBERGER and AARON RODGERS, at Lambeau Field?

The week begins Thursday night with a primetime matchup of the last two No. 1 overall selections in the NFL Draft, JOE BURROW and TREVOR LAWRENCE, and it ends on Monday night when the head-turning LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (2-1) host the LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (3-0), off to their best start in 19 years.

Intermission is over, so get to your seats. Dim the house lights and cue the orchestra. Here comes Week 4.

LATE-GAME DRAMA: Through Week 3, NFL teams have scored the winning points in the final minute of the fourth quarter or in overtime on 11 occasions. Just one other year has produced more such games at this point of a season.

WORKING OVERTIME: For the first time since 2018, at least one NFL game has gone to overtime in each of the season’s first three weeks. The league has had overtime games in each of the first four weeks of a season on only four occasions: 2018, 2002, 1983 and 1979.

WILD, WILD NFC WEST: Five teams, including four that missed the playoffs last year (Arizona, Carolina, Denver and Las Vegas) are 3-0. Two of the undefeated teams are NFC West rivals that will meet at SoFi Stadium, where the ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-0) travel to clash with the LOS ANGELES RAMS (3-0) on Sunday (4:05 PM ET, FOX). Arizona is tied for the league lead with 34.3 points per game, while the Rams rank third with 31.7.

  • With a rushing touchdown on Sunday, Arizona quarterback KYLER MURRAY would become the first quarterback in NFL history to run for a touchdown in each of his team’s first four games of a season. Murray has rushed for a touchdown in each of his team’s first three games for the second season in a row. The only other quarterbacks with a rushing touchdown in each of their team’s first three games of a season since 1970 are Pro Football Hall of Famer TERRY BRADSHAW (1972) and CHARLIE FRYE (2006).
  • Murray, who passed for 316 yards in last week’s win at Jacksonville, aims to lead the Cardinals to their best start in nine years, when they opened 4-0 in 2012. The last time Arizona began 3-0 was 2015, when the Cardinals advanced to the NFC Championship Game.
  • The Rams’ COOPER KUPP leads the NFL in both receiving yards (367) and touchdown catches (five). He’s also tied for the league lead with 25 receptions.
  • Last week, Rams wide receiver DESEAN JACKSON recorded a 75-yard touchdown reception in the team’s win over Tampa Bay. He became the fifth player in the Super Bowl era to register 10 career touchdowns of at least 75 yards, joining DEVIN HESTER (14 touchdowns), DANTE HALL (11), JOSH CRIBBS (10) and TYREEK HILL (10).
  • Rams quarterback MATTHEW STAFFORD has established a blistering pace through his first three games with the Rams, ranking second in the league with a 129.8 passer rating and tied for second with nine touchdown passes. He’s only the sixth player since 1950 to throw nine-or-more touchdown passes in his first three starts with a team. If he throws for three more touchdowns on Sunday against the Cardinals, he would join elite company.

REUNION GAMES: Three notable individuals come back to their former NFL homes this week. Chiefs head coach ANDY REID makes a return to Philadelphia, where the Eagles (1-2) host Kansas City (1-2) on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, CBS). Meanwhile, Tampa Bay (2-1) is at New England (1-2), where the Buccaneers’ tandem of TOM BRADY and ROB GRONKOWSKI make a return to Foxboro on Sunday Night Football (8:20 PM ET, NBC).

  • For Reid, head coach of the Eagles from 1999-2012, it’s a second return trip, following his first game at Lincoln Financial Field with the Chiefs in 2013. Reid has won each of his two games against the Eagles, including a 2017 victory at Arrowhead Stadium. This week, Reid can become the first head coach in NFL history to win 100 games, including the postseason, with multiple franchises. He’s 99-45-0 in nine years with the Chiefs and was 140-102-1 in 14 years with the Eagles, including the postseason. Overall, Reid’s 239 career victories rank fifth all-time.
  • Reid is also one of just seven coaches to take multiple teams to the Super Bowl.

AFC WEST SHOWDOWN TO CLOSE WEEKEND: Last week, the LAS VEGAS RAIDERS (3-0) overcame a 14-point deficit to defeat Miami, 31-28, in overtime and became the fourth team to win two overtime games within its first three games of a season, joining the 1995 Atlanta Falcons, 1995 Kansas City Chiefs and 1994 Detroit Lions. This week, the Raiders battle the LOS ANGELES CHARGERS (2-1) on Monday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, ESPN).

  • In the Raiders’ overtime win against Miami, quarterback DEREK CARR passed for 386 yards and two touchdowns with one interception for a 95.7 rating, leading the team to its first 3-0 start since 2002, when they advanced to the Super Bowl. Carr, who enters Week 4 with an NFL-best 1,203 passing yards, is the fourth player with at least 1,200 passing yards through his team’s first three games of a season in NFL history, joining TOM BRADY (1,327 passing yards in 2011), RYAN FITZPATRICK (1,230 in 2018) and Pro Football Hall of Famer KURT WARNER (1,221 in 2000).
  • Dating back to Week 16 of last season, Carr has recorded at least 325 passing yards in five consecutive games, joining RICH GANNON (six games with the Raiders in 2002), DREW BREES (five games with the Saints in 2011) and Pro Football Hall of Famer KURT WARNER (five games with the Rams in 2000 and five games with the Cardinals in 2008) as the only players to pass for 325 yards in five straight games in NFL history.

STIFF TEST ON TAP FOR COWBOYS: Four games this week feature two teams with at least two wins, including the CAROLINA PANTHERS (3-0) at the DALLAS COWBOYS (2-1) on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, FOX).

  • The Panthers are 3-0 for the first time since they opened 14-0 in 2015 en route to a berth in Super Bowl 50. Carolina’s defense leads the NFL in fewest total yards allowed per game (191.0) and ranks second in fewest points allowed per game (10.0).
  • Panthers quarterback SAM DARNOLD is 8-2 in 10 career starts when passing for at least 270 yards, including 3-0 this season.
  • Carolina linebacker HAASON REDDICK has 12 sacks over his past seven games, dating back to Week 14 of last season. Prior to Reddick, the last player with that many sacks over a seven-game span was Rams defensive lineman AARON DONALD, who registered 12.5 over a seven-game stretch in 2018.
  • Last week, Dallas quarterback DAK PRESCOTT completed 21 of 26 passes for 238 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions for a 143.3 rating. He now has 20 career games with three-or-more touchdown passes.
  • The Cowboys, who lead the NFL with eight takeaways and are tied for first with a plus-five turnover margin, have at least two takeaways in seven straight games (dating to Week 14 of last season), the longest active streak in the league.
  • Dallas cornerback TREVON DIGGS is tied for the NFL lead with three interceptions, while two Cowboys rookies, linebacker MICAH PARSONS and defensive tackle OSA ODIGHIZUWA, are tied for the team lead with 1.5 sacks.

DERBY CITY PIPELINE: Starting quarterbacks from the University of Louisville, both first-round draft choices selected 32nd overall, will lead their teams when the BALTIMORE RAVENS (2-1) meet the DENVER BRONCOS (3-0) on Sunday (4:25 PM ET, CBS). Baltimore’s LAMAR JACKSON, selected at the end of the first round by the Ravens in 2018, and Denver’s TEDDY BRIDGEWATER, taken by the Vikings to close the first round in 2014, both hail from South Florida.

  • In 40 career starts, Jackson now has 90 touchdowns (70 passing, 20 rushing) and joined PATRICK MAHOMES (107 touchdowns) and Pro Football Hall of Famers DAN MARINO (95) and KURT WARNER (91) as the only quarterbacks with at least 90 combined passing and rushing touchdowns in their first 40 career starts.
  • Last week as time expired in Detroit, Baltimore kicker JUSTIN TUCKER converted a game-winning 66-yard field goal, the longest field goal in NFL history. Tucker, who also converted a 50-yard field goal in the third quarter last week, has seven career games with multiple 50-yard field goals, tied with BRANDON MCMANUS (seven games) and MATT PRATER (seven) for the most such games in NFL history.
  • Tucker is now 20-for-20 on career field goals attempted either in overtime or the final minute of the fourth quarter.
  • In the league rankings, Baltimore is first with 185.3 rushing yards per game while Denver’s defense is second against the run, allowing just 59.3 rushing yards per game.
  • Denver, which also leads the NFL in fewest points allowed per game (8.7), is off to its best start since opening 4-0 in 2016.
  • Sunday’s game is a rematch of a thrilling 2012 AFC Divisional playoff in Denver, won by the Ravens, 38-35, on JUSTIN TUCKER’s 47-yard field goal in double overtime. With 31 seconds remaining in regulation, Tucker’s extra point knotted the game, following Joe Flacco’s 70-yard touchdown pass to Jacoby Jones. Baltimore used the win as a springboard to a victory in Super Bowl XLVII three weeks later.

LEGENDS AT LAMBEAU: Sunday’s game between the PITTSBURGH STEELERS (1-2) and the GREEN BAY PACKERS (2-1) at Lambeau Field (4:25 PM ET, CBS) is significant because it comes more than a decade after starting quarterbacks BEN ROETHLISBERGER and AARON RODGERS met in Super Bowl XLV. This week’s contest will mark the first time two starting quarterbacks have met 11-or-more seasons after a Super Bowl matchup. Prior to this week, the longest stretch was 10 years, when Roethlisberger and MATT HASSELBECK met on Dec. 6, 2015, 10 years after they squared off in Super Bowl XL.

  • Rodgers ranks seventh in NFL history with 418 career touchdown passes and this week can advance to No. 5 on the all-time list. Against Pittsburgh, he can surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (420) and PHILIP RIVERS (421). Rodgers also ranks 10th all-time in passing yards (51,894) entering Week 4.
  • Roethlisberger has 399 career touchdown passes and can become the eighth quarterback all-time to reach 400. He also has 61,149 career passing yards and can surpass Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (61,361) for the sixth-most passing yards in NFL history.
  • Last week, Pittsburgh rookie running back NAJEE HARRIS totaled 14 receptions for 102 yards. Harris’ 14 catches tied SAQUON BARKLEY (Sept. 16, 2018) and ROY HELU (Nov. 6, 2011) for the most single-game receptions by a rookie running back in NFL history.

ALLEN WRENCH: The BUFFALO BILLS (2-1) host the HOUSTON TEXANS (1-2) on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, CBS) in a rematch of an exciting 2019 Wild Card playoff. In that contest, Buffalo quarterback JOSH ALLEN put the Bills on the board by catching a 16-yard touchdown pass and wound up with 92 rushing yards and 264 passing yards, but Houston stormed back with timely plays, including a fourth-quarter sack and forced fumble by the Texans’ WHITNEY MERCILUS, and Houston prevailed in overtime, 22-19.

  • Since that game, Allen has led the Bills to a 17-5 record, including the postseason.
  • Last week, Allen passed for 358 yards and four touchdowns, and added one rushing touchdown in the Bills’ win over Washington. Allen became the fourth player in NFL history to record multiple career games with at least 300 passing yards, four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown, joining DREW BREES (four games), AARON RODGERS (three) and Pro Football Hall of Famer PEYTON MANNING (two). Allen’s first such game was Week 3 of the 2020 season, when he registered 311 passing yards with four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown.
  • Plus, among players in their first four NFL seasons, Allen is the fifth player ever to record five games with at least 300 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Only PATRICK MAHOMES (nine games), Pro Football Hall of Famers DAN MARINO (nine) and KURT WARNER (six), and ANDREW LUCK (six) have accomplished the feat during their first four years in the league.

NEVADA OPENS MOUNTAIN WEST CONFERENCE PLAY AT BOISE STATE

Nevada (2-1), following a BYE last week, opens Mountain West Conference play at Boise State (2-2) for a 12:30 p.m. (PT) kickoff. Saturday’s contest will be broadcast on FS1, with Alex Faust (play-by-play), Petros Papadakis (analyst) on the call.

 

The Wolf Pack Radio Network will call the game as well on 94.5 FM with John Ramey (play-by-play) and Mike Edwards (analyst) in the booth, with the 60-minute pregame show to begin at 11:30 a.m. PT.

 

SERIES HISTORY

Nevada and Boise State meet up for the 43rd time in school history. The first matchup between the two programs dates to Sept. 25, 1971, with the Broncos winning 17-10. The Pack secured its first victory over Boise State on Nov. 11, 1973, defeating the Broncos 23-21 at home. Boise State holds a 12-30 series edge and has won nine of the last 10 meetings.

 

The last Nevada win came in its historic, overtime 34-31 win in 2010. The Broncos came into Mackay ranked No. 3 in the nation. Freshman kicker Anthony Martinez’s 34-yarder secured the Pack victory.

 

PACK SITS AT 2-1

Nevada opened its 2021 season with a 22-17 victory over the California Golden Bears in Berkeley on Sept. 4. Prior to the win over Cal, Nevada’s last road win at a Power 5 team also came at Cal when Nevada defeated the Golden Bears 31-24 on Sept. 1, 2012. After Cal opened the game with a 14-0 lead, Nevada scored 22 unanswered points to lead the remainder of the game. Carson Strong threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns, posting the ninth 300-yard passing game of his career. Kicker Brandon Talton recorded the 12th multi-FG game of his career after going 3-for-4 for Nevada. Romeo Doubs finished with six catches for 83 yards and a touchdown, Cole Turner led all Pack receivers with seven catches (for 75 yards), and WR Tory Horton led the Pack with 94 receiving yards on three catches. Elijah Cooks recorded his first touchdown since the 2020 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Jan. 3, 2020. The Pack defense came up clutch to secure Nevada’s victory. Cornerback Isaiah Essissima, a transfer from Wake Forest, made his first interception in a Nevada jersey in his Wolf Pack debut, stopping a late fourth-quarter Cal drive with a pick. Sam Hammond and Daniel Grzesiak tallied sacks for the Pack, including Hammond’s 13-yard loss which resulted in a missed Cal field goal attempt. JoJuan Claiborne led the Pack defense with 10 tackles (eight solos), and shared a tackle-for-loss.

 

Nevada handled business on Sept. 11 in its first home game of the 2021 season. The Pack defeated Idaho State, 49-10. Carson Strong powered the Pack offense, throwing for 381 yards and four touchdowns. Strong completed 34 of 43 passes, including two touchdowns to Elijah Cooks, who finished with seven receptions for 89 yards. Devonte Lee recorded a 2-yard  touchdown run late in the third quarter and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth. Cole Turner had a touchdown catch. Backup quarterback Nate Cox stepped in the game in the fourth quarter, delivering a 43-yard touchdown to Harry Ballard.

 

Nevada dropped its first game of the season to No. 25 Kansas State in Manhattan, Kan., on Sept. 18. Despite the 38-17 final score being in favor of the Wildcats, the Pack and Kansas State began the fourth quarter tied at 17. WR Romeo Doubs made 7 catches for 121 yards for a season-high in yardage. His previous season-best was 83 yards on six receptions against Cal on Sept. 4. It marked his most receiving yards since he gained 133 yards on 5 receptions at Hawai’i on Nov. 21, 2020.

 

GAME OF FIRSTS

Backup quarterback Nate Cox stepped into the Idaho State game in the fourth quarter, tossing a 43-yard touchdown pass to Harry Ballard for both of their first career touchdown passes and receptions in a Wolf Pack uniform. Senior running back Devonte Lee also made his first-career touchdown reception, a 15-yard pass from Carson Strong with 11:03 left in the fourth quarter against Idaho State.

 

AIR ESSISSIMA

Isaiah Essissima recorded his first collegiate interception in his first night in a Wolf Pack uniform at Cal, grabbing a game-clinching interception with 04:29 left to play. Essissima, a Wake Forest transfer, started in his first game for Nevada and tallied four tackles and an interception.

 

PACK DEFENSE SHINES BRIGHT AGAINST BENGALS

The Nevada defense provided a spark in the Pack’s routing of Idaho State on Saturday. Lawson Hall led the defense with 10 total tackles, including a sack and forced fumble. Tristan Nichols also had a strong output, totaling four tackles and three sacks for a combined loss of 17 yards. Daiyan Henley racked up eight tackles and recorded two pass breakups. The Pack defense combined for eight sacks and two forced fumbles, including a strip-sack by Tristan Nichols that resulted in a Dom Peterson return for a touchdown.

BURNETT UP FOR MAYO CLINIC COMEBACK POY AWARD . . .

 

  • Tulsa senior linebacker Yohance Burnett is a nominee for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award

 

  • Burnett has suffered two ACL injuries since joining the Tulsa football team from Navarro Junior College in 2018.

 

  • He suffered his first ACL injury to his right knee during the 2018 preseason camp … last year in preseason camp, Burnett tore his left ACL forcing him to miss his second season in three years.

 

  • In three games this season, Burnett has totaled 18 tackles to rank second on the team. He has totaled 36 tackles and 3.5 TFL for -6 yards in 15 career games.

 

  • Ten times during the 2021 college football season, three inspiring student-athletes from all levels of college football who have overcome injury, illness, or other challenges, will be recognized as Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Nominees.

 

 

 

BROOKS EIGHT YARDS SHY OF 3,000 . . .

 

  • Running back Shamari Brooks, who missed the 2020 season with an ACL injury, has totaled 2,992 yards on 627 career attempts in 36 career games.

 

  • He needs just eight more yards to become just the 5th player in school history to reach the 3,000-yard rushing plateau.

 

  • The senior from Tulsa’s Union High School came into the 2021 season ranked 5th on the school’s career rushing list with 2,700 yards.

 

  • Brooks had his 13th career 100+ rushing game with 155 yards on 22 carries against Arkansas State … he also scored his 24th career rushing TD in that game to move into 11th place on the school’s all-time chart.

 

  • Brooks is now 549 yards shy of moving into a 4th place tie with Trey Watts (2010-13, 3,515 yards) on the school’s all-time rushing chart.

 

 

 

BRIN THROWS FOR OVER 350 YARDS IN TWO STRAIGHT . . .

 

  • Davis Brin threw for 355 yards last week against Arkansas State, giving him his second straight game throwing for over 350 yards.

 

  • He also had a career-high three TDs in the ASU game, as his TD throws covered 88, 34 and 17 yards.

 

  • A week before, Brin had a career-best 428 yards and two TDs against No.9-ranked Ohio State in just his 7th career game.

 

  • The 428 yards is the 11th best passing performance in school history and just the 19th time a Tulsa quarterback went over the 400-yard plateau.

 

  • Brin’s 31 completions and 54 attempts were also career highs for the Tulsa junior.

 

  • His previous-high was 266 yards in a reserve role last year against Tulane.

 

  • His 428 yards was the most passing yards for a Tulsa quarterback since Dane Evans threw for 421 yards against Memphis on Oct. 23, 2015 against #17 Memphis.

 

  • In his four starts, all coming this year, Brin has completed 61-percent of his passes (82-of-134) for 1,208 yards and two TDs.

 

 

 

DEFENSE TOTALING UP THE TFL . . .

 

  • In four games, Tulsa’s defense has totaled 31 TFL for -98 yards to rank 17th nationally.

 

  • Among Tulsa’s total TFL this season, 10 have been credited as sacks for -52 yards.

 

  • A total of 15 players have recorded at least one TFL for lost yards, while defensive end Cullen Wick leads the way with 5.5 for -21 TFL … he and fellow lineman Anthony Goodlow lead Tulsa in sacks with two for -11 yards.

 

  • Tulsa turned in high games of 10 TFL for -31 yards vs. Arkansas State and six sacks for -25 yards.

 

  • The Hurricane had nine TFL in each of the first two games, including nine TFL for -20 yards in the season opener against UC Davis and nine TFL for -32 yards at Oklahoma State.

 

 

 

WATKINS BREAKS OUT . . .

 

  • Sophomore Anthony Watkins had a breakout game against Arkansas State.

 

  • He came into the game with 60 yards on 10 carries in his first three games this year, and splurged for a career-high 115 yards and one TD on seven carries for a 16.4 average per attempt.

 

  • He had a 75-yard touchdown run among his game total.

 

  • Now, Watkins has totaled 175 yards for a 10.3 average per carry this year.

 

 

 

RECEIVING CORPS STEPPING UP . . .

 

  • Without leading receiver Keylon Stokes on the field the last two games, Tulsa receivers have filled the void.

 

  • In the Ohio State game, Tulsa QB Davis Brin targeted nine receivers, but had just four receivers catch passes a week later against Arkansas State.

 

  • Over the two weeks, just the receiving corps has caught 50 passes for 728 yards, five TDs and 364 yards per game.

 

  • Tulsa has had three 100-yard receivers over the past two weeks … Josh Johnson had a career-high 149 yards on eight receptions at Ohio State and followed that up with 127 yards on nine catches vs. Arkansas State.

 

  • Sam Crawford Jr. had the other 100+ game with 105 yards on two receptions, both for touchdowns.

 

  • Against Ohio State, Brin targeted five receivers, three running backs and one tight end as the junior completed 31 of his 54 passes for 428 yards, all career highs.

 

  • Graduate transfer Ezra Naylor II caught his first passes in a Tulsa uniform with five receptions for 81 yards, including a long of 38 yards, against Ohio State.

 

•              In addition, one receiver caught his first career TD on just his fourth career reception, when the Cannon Montgomery caught a 21-yard touchdown in the third quarter at Ohio State.
