No official requests for roster changes have been submitted to Concacaf

Nashville SC defender Walker Zimmerman has been ruled out with a hamstring strain. Per the amended tournament regulations, teams can replace injured players up to 24 hours prior to the quarterfinal. The replacement must come from the 60-player provisional roster.

At this point, no official requests for roster changes have been submitted to Concacaf.

The United States won Group A with a perfect 3-0-0 record following victories over Haiti (1-0), Martinique (6-1) and Canada (1-0). The U.S. will now face the runner-up in Group C, which will be decided tonight between Costa Rica and Jamaica, in the quarterfinals on Sunday, July 25 at AT&T Stadium.

Last Saturday, Cowell, 17, became the first player in Major League Soccer with at least four goals (4) and four assists (4) so far this season.

Split-T Management signs Heavyweight Prospect Antonio Mireles; 2020 USA Super Heavyweight Olympic Trial Champion

NEW YORK – Split-T Management is pleased to announce the signing of its biggest athlete in 6’9″ Iowa-native Antonio Mireles.

Mireles, 24 years-old of Des Moines, Iowa is affectionately known as “The Lincoln Giant” because of his tremendous stature and status as a graduate of Lincoln High School in Des Moines.

“I am very excited to sign with Split-T Management. They had their eye on me as an amateur. They saw me in a few tournaments and they were impressed. The goal was the Olympics and now I am ready to turn professional,” said Mireles.

“I am a boxer, I like to keep my opponents at bay and use my range. I am out in Oxnard training with Robert Garcia and hopefully will make my debut in September.”

“I am as excited about signing Antonio as anyone I’ve ever signed,” said David McWater of Split-T Management. “I think he has the ability to be heavyweight champion of the world some day and the opportunity to be a tremendous star.”

Mireles, of Mexican-American descent, initially began boxing at the Des Moines PAL at the age of 12 and started competing at 15. He was guided for his entire amateur career by a pair of two strong coaches in John Saunders and Elly Nunez.

In his relatively brief, but extremely successful run in the amateurs, Mireles compiled a record of 28-4 with 10 knockouts – culminating in winning the 2020 USA Olympic Trials in the Super Heavyweight division. He was also a 2019 National Golden Gloves Champion, a 2019 Eastern Elite Amateur Champion and a five-time Iowa Golden Gloves Champion.

Mireles has already impressed new coach Robert Garcia in his transition to the pro ranks, with Garcia noting his new fighters dedication, boxing skills, and “great power” as reasons for a successful future together.

Blue Bombers agree to terms with kicker Tyler Crapigna

0

WINNIPEG, MB., – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed veteran Canadian kicker Tyler Crapigna.

Crapigna (5-7, 166, McMaster; DOB: August 4, 1992 in Nepean, Ont.) joins the Blue Bombers with extensive Canadian Football League experience with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts.

Crapigna has a CFL career field-goal percentage of 85.2, having connected on 98 of 115 tries in games covering a span from 2015-19.

He was recently released by the Montreal Alouettes, who had acquired him in a February 2020 trade with Toronto for Boris Bede.

He was originally selected by the Calgary Stampeders in the fifth round, 40th overall, in the 2014 CFL Draft. He attended training camp with the club that year before returning to McMaster and spent much of 2015 on Calgary’s practice roster before being dealt to Saskatchewan for running back Jerome Messam at the trade deadline.

Crapigna made all four of his field-goal attempts with the Riders in 2015 and then was good on 85.7 percent of his tries over the next two seasons. He missed all of 2018 with an injury and then joined the Argos in 2019, where he was good on 22 of 27 field-goal attempts.

MATCH PREVIEW: Columbus Crew hosts Nashville for first of two regular-season matchups

0

Wednesday marks the first meeting between the sides since 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinals match

COLUMBUS — Columbus Crew (5-3-5, 20 points) continues its home stretch at Lower.com Field and hosts Nashville SC (5-1-7, 22 points) tomorrow, Wednesday, July 21 [7:30 p.m. ET / Bally Sports Ohio / 97.1 FM The Fan & 971TheFan.com (English), ColumbusCrew.com (Spanish)] with coverage beginning on Bally Sports Ohio at 7:00 p.m. ET. Tickets for the match are available at columbuscrew.com/tickets.

Fans attending the match at Lower.com Field on Wednesday evening are encouraged to arrive early and pre-purchase their parking passes. Information on parking and alternative transportation options can be found here.

The Crew won the lone regular-season contest in 2020 against Nashville SC at Historic Crew Stadium (September 19). Second-half goals from midfielder Pedro Santos and forward Gyasi Zardes made the difference against Nashville, while goalkeeper Eloy Room made four saves, earning a shutout in the 2-0 victory. Additionally, the two sides met in the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs, again played at Historic Crew Stadium (November 29). Santos and Zardes scored in the first half of extra time to give the Black & Gold a 2-0 win, helping them advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Post-game, following the match against Nashville SC, Columbus Crew Head Coach Caleb Porter and select Columbus Crew players will be available during a press conference in the press conference room at Lower.com Field.

The Crew and Nashville SC are sixth- and fifth-place in the Eastern Conference, respectively, and depending on how other mid-week matches around the League shake out, it could be a considerable swing for the short-handed Black & Gold as they look to extend their win streak against Nashville SC to three and overall unbeaten streak to five come Wednesday at Lower.com Field (7:30 p.m. ET, Bally Sports Ohio, 97.1 FM The Fan).

This will be the third meeting between Columbus and Nashville, with the Crew winning each of the first two matches, 2-0, at home, including in extra time in last season’s playoffs. Pedro Santos opened the scoring in both matches with each goal assisted by Gyasi Zardes while Zardes added the second goal in both games as well.

Following Saturday’s 2-1 win over New York City FC at Lower.com Field, Columbus has won 18 of their last 21 home matches (D2 L1) dating back to the last match of the 2019 season (including playoffs). The Crew’s 56 points from those 21 home matches equals the most by any team in a 21-game home span in the post-shootout era (since 2000).

In that match against NYCFC, Lucas Zelarayan scored the game-winning free kick, his fourth direct free kick goal of the season (his third against NYCFC). Only Sebastian Giovinco (7 in 2017, 5 in 2015) has scored more goals from direct free kicks in a single season since 2010.

As for Nashville, the 2020 expansion team scored a club-record five goals in its 5-1 win over Chicago on Saturday. The four-goal margin of victory was also the largest in club history.

Notably, Hany Mukhtar scored a hat-trick in a six-minute span in the first half vs. Chicago. Only Harut Karpetyan (5 minutes for LA Galaxy on June 4, 1998) has done so in a shorter time span in MLS history.

Kickoff on Wednesday night is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.
