Lionel Messi in the Spotlight
Lionel Messi is probably the best soccer player in history, but his story is coming to an end. He’s now 35, meaning that it’s very unlikely he’s going to play in the 2026 World Cup. That said, the tournament in Qatar may be his “last dance.”

Argentina’s captain should have a good time in Qatar. He’s 100% injury free and has been playing good soccer over the last couple of weeks. Messi also has plenty of motivation to excel in the 2022 World Cup. The thing is that his national team hasn’t won the trophy since the days of Diego Armando Maradona.

Another great thing for Argentina is that they’re drawn into Group C, which is arguably the easiest group in the tourney. They’re expected to finish above Mexico, Poland, and Saudi Arabia, which is the biggest underdog in the 2022 World Cup.

Is Saudi Arabia Really the Worst Team in the Tournament?
Saudi Arabia might be the very worst team taking part in the Qatar tournament. Oddsmakers are giving +30000 on this team lifting the trophy, which practically means that such a scenario is impossible to play out.

We think these guys are going to have a horrible time in Qatar, especially in the first game. The thing is that they’re playing against one of the main title favorites, a team that’s superb in the offense. Meanwhile, the Saudi offense doesn’t look very lethal.

This team has scored only seven goals in 14 games played in 2022. None of those games was against a team that’s as strong as Argentina.

Argentina vs Saudi Arabia Prediction
Argentina will obliterate Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, putting away at least a couple of goals. We believe that many of those goals will be the work of Lionel Messi. In fact, we think he could even score a hat-trick in this game.

When it comes to Saudi Arabia, we just can’t see this team scoring. That said, a blowout win for Argentina is the most likely outcome in our opinion.

STALKING VICTORY IN SAN JOSE: Ottawa will be looking for their first win at San Jose since the 2019-20 season this evening when they take on the Sharks. STORYLINES
IN RARE ER…Erik Karlsson continued his torrid stretch with his second four-point game (1g, 3a) of the season on Thursday (11/17) against Detroit. It was his second four-point game of the season and seventh of his career, matching him with Roman Josi for most among active defensemen. With his effort, the blue-liner moved to a tie for second in the NHL in scoring as of Friday morning, his 28 points matching the total of Leon Draisaitl (9g, 19a) and trailing only Connor McDavid (15g, 17a). The Sharks blue-liner’s 28 points through 19 games is the second-most since the turn of the century among defensemen, trailing only John Carlson’s 29 (8g, 21a) in the 2019-20 campaign. Karlsson has factored into 28 of 56 goals scored for San Jose this season (50.0-percent). Per NHL PR, the highest-ever rate in the NHL’s modern era (since the 1943-44 season) at which a defenseman factored into team goals for a season was Bobby Orr, 43.3-percent in 1969-70.

IT’S TIMO TIME… Timo Meier’s seven-game scoring streak ended on Sunday (11/13), finishing with a total of seven goals and five assists in the seven-game run. Meier took sole possession of 10th on the Sharks all-time ranks in goals scored with his marker last Thursday (11/10), surpassing Marco Sturm (128). The forward lit the lamp in five consecutive games, matching his career long (previously 10/20/18 – 10/30/18, 6g) with six goals in that span, and with a power play goal at Vegas (11/15) has found the back of the net in seven of the past nine contests. He added an assist on Saturday (11/19) against the New York Rangers to push his scoring marks to 15 points (8g, 7a) in the past 11 games. Meier leads the NHL with 95 shots on goal coming into Monday’s matchup with Ottawa.

HERTL HEATING UP… Tomas Hertl has registered points in six of the past seven games and has four multi-point efforts in the past nine entering 11/21 vs. Ottawa. The forward registered a season-high three points in San Jose’s 11/5 game against the Anaheim Ducks, including a goal and two assists and has 16 points in the team’s previous 15 games dating back to October 20 at New York Rangers. He had goals in three consecutive contests for the first time this season from 11/5 – 11/11 and notched his 400th career NHL point last Friday (11/11) with an assist.

CAPTAIN COUTURE…Logan Couture has been finding his groove on the offensive end, lighting the lamp in five of the past six contests with two multi-point efforts and seven points (5g, 2a) in that span. Since a season-best three-point outing on 10/27 vs. Toronto, Couture has operated at a point-per-game clip over the past 11 contests, claiming seven goals and four assists. He has 17 points and seven goals in 17 games against Ottawa in his career.

CRANK THE POWER… The Sharks’ power play has been hot of late, cashing in on eight of 27 (29.6%) trips to the man-advantage since the start of a six-game home stand on October 25, the sixth-best in the NHL in that span. San Jose has gone empty in four games in that stretch, including Nov. 10 at St. Louis when the team had zero power play opportunities. The game-winning goal Thursday (11/15) at Vegas came from Timo Meier on the power play.

PRIME PENALTY KILL…San Jose killed off its first 22 penalties of the season before finally allowing a power play goal on Oct. 22 at New Jersey, and enters Monday’s game on the heels of clean sheets in five consecutive contests. The Sharks have taken over the top spot in the NHL at 92.5-percent for the year. San Jose has been operating at a league-best 88.8% shorthanded efficiency since the 2022 NHL All-Star break, and the Sharks have the league’s second-best penalty kill percentage since the start of the 2020-21 season (84.1%).

COMEBACK KIDS…The Sharks overcame a two-goal deficit en route to a 3-2 shootout victory Sunday (11/13) at Minnesota, the team’s first multi-goal comeback win of the season and first since 4/24/22 at Vegas, a 5-4 shootout decision. San Jose has come from behind in four of six wins on the year, including each contest of a three-game win streak Friday (11/11) at Dallas (trailed 1-0), Sunday (11/13) at Minnesota (trailed 2-0) and Tuesday at Vegas (trailed 1-0 and 2-1). San Jose was the first team to earn a win over Vegas when trailing after two periods on the year (the Knights had been 7-0-0). Per NHL PR, the three-game road trip was the first time since March 14-17, 2018 that the Sharks earned three consecutive come-from-behind wins in one road stint. San Jose has erased a third-period deficit in three of the past four games entering Monday (11/21) against Ottawa, going 2-2-0 in that span.

WORKING OVERTIME… San Jose has been logging plenty of ice time of late, going beyond the 60 minutes of regulation in five of the past 11 games, including shootouts in three straight (11/1 – 11/5). The recent run was the fourth time in Sharks history that the team has reached a shootout in three straight, including February 5-9, 2021 (2-1), December 21-27, 2013 (3-0), and January 29-February 2, 2013 (2-1). Entering Saturday vs. New York (11/19), the Sharks are 2-0 in games decided in 3-on-3 overtime and are 1-3 in games decided in a shootout.

REIM TIME…Sharks goaltender James Reimer earned his first shutout of the season on Oct. 23 with a 30-save performance at Philadelphia. Reimer’s shutout, his fifth as a Shark, moved him into a tie with Aaron Dell for eighth on the franchise’s all-time shutouts list. He recorded his third 41-save effort of the season on Saturday (11/19) against the New York Rangers, including saves on the first 40 shots he faced in the game. Reimer also owns a .940 shorthanded save percentage since joining the Sharks at the start of the 2021- 22 season, the best in the NHL in that span (min. 10 games played) and the best two-season stretch by a goaltender since the NHL began tracking the statistic in 1997-98 (min. 30 games played, second best is Cory Schneider from 2010-12 with a .936 SV% in 58 GP). STURM WARNING…Nico Sturm netted his sixth goal of the season during Sunday’s (11/13) game at Minnesota, giving him his third-best season total of the year through just 17 games. Sturm had three goals and four points in a five-game stretch from 10/23-11/1, lighting the lamp against Tampa (10/29), Vegas (10/25) and Philadelphia (10/23), and his five-goals-in-eight-games stretch from 10/15-10/29 was the best of his career.

QUICK START KUNIN…Sharks forward Luke Kunin tallied points in each of his first two regular games with the Sharks, recording the secondary assist on Tomas Hertl’s goal on Oct. 7 and scoring his first goal as a member of the Sharks the next day. Kunin’s 21:23 minutes of ice time on Oct. 7 is the second highest he’s logged in his career and the most he has logged since 2019. His power-play marker on Oct. 8 was the first power-play goal of his career and the first special teams goal scored in the 2022-23 NHL season. Kunin had points on each of the Sharks first two power play strikes (1g, 1a) of the season, matching his career high for power play points in a season. Including exhibition and preseason, Kunin scored one point in each of the first six games he played with the Sharks.

GRIER’S GAMEPLAN…On July 5, Sharks president Jonathan Becher and assistant general manager Joe Will introduced Mike Grier as the team’s fifth General Manager and first black general manager in NHL history. The 47-year-old appeared in 221 games with the Sharks from 2006 through 2008 as part of a 14-season, 1,060 game NHL playing career. Just two days later, Grier was with the team as they selected center Filip Bystedt with the 27th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. On July 13, the Sharks traded longtime defenseman Brent Burns and signed Matt Benning, Oskar Lindblom, Markus Nutivaara and Nico Sturm on the first day of free agency. A full list of players under NHL contract that have joined the organization since July 5 is below:

QUINN FOR THE WIN…On July 26, Grier introduced David Quinn as Head Coach of the Sharks and later named Scott Gordon, Ryan Warsofsky and Brian Wiseman as Assistant Coaches, Thomas Speer NHL Goaltending Coach and Nick Gialdini Video Coach. Quinn, who most recently served as head coach for Team USA at both the 2022 Winter Olympics and 2022 World Championship, spent three seasons as head coach of the New York Rangers from 2018 to 2021, earning a 96-87-25 record. In his three years, the Rangers held the league’s eighth-best power-play percentage (22.1%), ranked seventh in team blocked shots (4,195) and takeaways (2,244), and were tied for tenth in wins when trailing first (52). Adam Fox, who made his NHL debut under Quinn in 2019-20, was awarded the Norris Trophy following the 2020-21 season. Quinn’s first NHL win was a 3-2 overtime victory against the Sharks at Madison Square Garden with the Rangers on Oct. 11, 2018. His first NHL win with the Sharks was a 3-2 overtime victory against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 21, 2022. The 56- year-old recorded his 100th career NHL win on 11/11 at Dallas, a 5-4 final.

The homestand includes visits from the Ottawa Senators (Friday, Nov. 25, 12 p.m. PT) and Seattle Kraken (Sunday, Nov. 27, 5 p.m. PT).

CLUTCH COMEBACKS: The Ducks lead the NHL with three third-period, multi-goal comebacks wins this season, including Oct. 12 vs. SEA (5-4, OT win, trailed 4-2 with 15:51 in third), Oct. 30 vs. TOR (4-3 OT win, trailed 3-1 with 12:36 remaining) and Nov. 5 @ SJS 5-4 shootout win, trailed 4-2 with 9:33 remaining). The Ducks have four comeback wins overall this season (also Nov. 15 vs. DET, trailed 2-1 in final minute of regulation). Anaheim’s comeback win over San Jose marked the second time in franchise history the club has come back from a multi-goal deficit in the final 5:00 of regulation in the regular season (also Dec. 7, 2016 vs. CAR). Anaheim has recorded four third-period, multi-goal comeback victories in a single regular season just three times in franchise history (six in 2014-15 and five in 2009-10 & 4 in 2013-14).

OT HEROICS: Anaheim is 3-0 in games decided in overtime this season, while earning victories in five of the six contests that have required extra time (2-1 in shootouts). Anaheim’s three straight wins in OT to begin the season mark a franchise record, surpassing the two wins to begin a campaign (also 2010-10, 2008-09 and 1995-96). All three Ducks OT wins have come on home ice to lead the NHL in home OT wins, including Oct. 12 vs. SEA (Troy Terry GWG), Oct. 30 vs. TOR (Trevor Zegras GWG) and Nov. 15 vs. DET (Ryan Strome GWG). Strome (1-1=2) and Zegras (1-1=2) pace Anaheim in OT points, while Zegras co-leads the NHL with two shootout goals (also MIN’s Kirill Kaprizov and SJS’s Nick Bonino). Zegras paces the NHL with eight shootout goals since the start of 2021-22.

TERRY TALK: Right wing Troy Terry leads Anaheim in points this season (7-13=20), while he ranks tied for sixth among NHL skaters in even-strength points (6-11=17) and tied for third in even-strength assists (11). He had a career-best five-game assist streak Oct. 30-Nov. 6 (1-7=8), surpassing his prior best of four straight games with an assist Nov. 9-16, 2021 (3-4=7).

GENERATION Z: Center Trevor Zegras enters tonight with points in four of his last five road contests (2-4=6) dating to Nov. 1. Zegras leads the Ducks in goals (8), the only player 21 or younger to lead their team in goals this season. He also ranks second among team leaders with 8-8=16 points. Zegras has points in three of his last four games overall (1-3=4) and 1-5=6 points his last seven contests. He has also scored 4-7=11 points his last nine games and 6-7=13 points his last 13 outings. He recorded points in a career-tying four straight games Oct. 30-Nov. 5 (3-4=7), matching his prior streak set Apr. 24-29, 2022 (2-2=4). Zegras recorded his fifth career multigoal game Oct. 30 vs. TOR (2-0=2), ncluding his second career OT goal. The 21-year-old has recorded. He scored goals in a season-best three straight games Nov. 5-12 (3-0=3, +3; missed Nov. 9 due to birth of first child), including his 100th goal as a Duck (100-90=190) Nov. 12 vs. CHI, becoming the 10th player in franchise history to reach the milestone. Henrique scored his first goal after the birth of his daughter Nov. 10 and has 6-3=9 points his last eight games. Henrique leads Anaheim in FOW% (54.8) and is third in goals among Ducks leaders (6).

CAM’S CORNER: Defenseman Cam Fowler currently has three straight multi-point efforts (1-5=6), his longest point streak of the season. Fowler and San Jose’s Erik Karlsson (four straight multi-point games, Oct. 27-Nov. 3; 7-4=11) are the only defensemen in the NHL with three or more consecutive multi-point outings. Fowler is one of four defensemen in Ducks history to have had multiple points in three consecutive games and the first since Scott Niedermayer in 2008-09. ROAD, SWEET ROAD
The Avalanche finished a league-best 9-1 on the road during the 2022 postseason, tied for the fewest road losses by a Stanley Cup champion since 1987 (the 2012 Kings and 1995 Devils were both 10-1) … Colorado earned all four series-clinching wins on the road, including Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final in Tampa Bay … Colorado won its first seven away games to start these playoffs, matching its longest road playoff winning streak in franchise history (1999) and equaling the second longest such streak in NHL history.

AINT NO MOUNTAIN HIGH, AINT NO VALLEY LOW
Colorado’s Stanley Cup championship came five years after a last-place finish in 2016-17 …. The Avs became the fifth team in the expansion era (1967-68) to win a title within five years of a last place finish and the first since the 2009 Penguins … Colorado won the Presidents’ Trophy the previous year in 2020-21, becoming the first NHL team to go from worst to first overall in four seasons or less since the Bruins in 1970-71.

DOWN BUT NEVER OUT
Ten of the Avalanche’s wins during the 2022 postseason were earned in come-from-behind fashion, including four third-period comebacks … Colorado’s 10 comeback wins tied the 2009 Penguins for the most in NHL history … The Avs trailed in all four of their series-clinching victories, the first team in NHL history to do so.

MAGIC YEAR FOR MAKAR
After becoming the first player in franchise history to win the Norris Trophy, Makar followed that up by winning the Conn Smythe as playoff MVP … At 23 years, 239 days, he became the youngest defenseman in 52 years to win the Conn Smythe and just the third overall to do so at age 23 or younger, joining Bobby Orr with the 1970 Bruins (22 years, 51 days) and Serge Savard with the 1969 Canadiens (23 years, 102 days) … Makar won the Conn Smythe just five days after receiving his first Norris Trophy … He became the third player to win both awards in the same season, following Orr in 1970 and Nicklas Lidstrom in 2002 … Makar led the Avalanche and all NHL defensemen with 29 points (8g/21a) in 20 games, the fourth-highest total by a defenseman in Stanley Cup Playoff history behind Paul Coffey (37) with the 1985 Oilers, Brian Leetch (34) with the 1994 Rangers and Al MacInnis (31) with the 1989 Flames.

SUPER JOE ACHIEVES RARE FIRST
General Manager (now President) Joe Sakic, who captained the Avalanche to a pair of titles in 1996 and 2001, became the first individual in league history to win a Stanley Cup as a captain and GM with the same organization … He was just the third to win a championship as a player and general manager with the same franchise, joining Serge Savard of the Canadiens and Milt Schmidt of the Bruins.

IN BEDNAR WE TRUST
Jared Bednar is beginning his seventh season as the Avalanche’s head coach … Hired on Aug. 25, 2016, he is the third-longest tenured coach in the NHL behind Jon Cooper (March 25, 2013) and Mike Sullivan (Dec. 12, 2015) … Jared led the 2021-22 Avalanche to their most successful regular season in franchise history (56-19-7, 119 points) and continued that into the postseason with a 16-4 playoff mark en route to capturing the 2022 Stanley Cup … Bednar, who won a Calder Cup with the Lake Erie Monsters in 2016 and a Kelly Cup with the South Carolina Stingrays in 2009, became the first individual to win a championship in the NHL, AHL and ECHL as a head coach … He is the winningest coach in Avalanche history with a 250-173-47 (.582) regular season record … Bednar owns a 40-22-1 (.635) record in 63 postseason games, the best playoff winning percentage among active coaches and the third highest all time (min 50 GP) behind Glen Sather (.706), Toe Blake (.689).

TIP OF CAP
Gabriel Landeskog enters his 12th NHL season and 11th as team captain … Landeskog was the youngest captain in NHL history when he assumed the role at 19 years, 286 days on Sept. 4, 2012, a title he held for four years before Connor McDavid was given the ‘C’ by Edmonton at 19 years, 266 days on Oct. 5, 2016 … Landeskog is the second-longest serving captain in franchise history behind only Joe Sakic (17 seasons, 16 consecutive) … Only three players have been captain of their current teams longer:

Sidney Crosby (PIT)…………………. 16th season (since 2007-08)
Jonathan Toews (CHI) …………….. 15th season (since 2008-09)
Alex Ovechkin (WSH)………………. 14th season (since 2009-10)
Gabriel Landeskog (COL)…………11th season (since 2012-13)

MILE HIGH MAINSTAY
Erik Johnson begins his 15th NHL season and 13th with the Avalanche … His 13 seasons rank fourth in franchise history behind only Joe Sakic (20), Adam Foote (17) and Milan Hejduk (14), with Foote the only other defenseman on that list … Johnson is the longest current tenured athlete of any of Denver’s four major sports teams, followed by Gabriel Landeskog and Rockies outfielder Charlie Blackmon (both 12 seasons).

TONIGHTS STORYLINES & STATS
This is the first of two matchups this season between the Flames and Flyers. The two teams split the season-series in 2021-22 with the Flames outscoring the Flyers 5-2 and taking three of a possible four points in their two meetings. This is a Pacific Division versus Metropolitan Division Matchup; The Flames have an overall record of 2-1-2 against Metropolitan Division opponents this season and a record of 3-4-2 against Eastern Conference opponents.

RED HOT RUZICKA:
Flames forward Adam Ruzicka continued his offensive tare on Saturday afternoon in Sunrise, scoring two goals and adding an assist for his first three-point game in the NHL. The Bratislava, SK native has recorded three multi-point games in his last four contests and leads the Flames in points per-game (1.14). He is also just two points away from tying his single-season high (10) which he set last year in 28 games.

TIGHT CONTESTS:
The Flames and Flyers have gone to overtime or a shootout five times in their last eight meetings. Four of those games ended in overtime, with the Flames winning all four and Philadelphia winning the lone shootout the clubs have played over that span.

BIG Z:
Nikita Zadorov continued his strong play on Saturday against Florida and picked-up his fourth goal on the season. He is currently tied for seventh in the NHL in goals among defenseman and is three away from tying his career high in goals at 7, a mark he hit twice in 2017-18 and 2018-19 as a member of the Colorado Avalanche. He also leads the Flames in plus/minus at +9.

FUN ON THE ROAD:
Since the start of last season, the Flames have gone 27-15-5 on the road, that is the second-best road record in the NHL in that span among teams that have played less than 50 games away from home. They continued that trend with a shootout win on Saturday over the Florida Panthers, their first shootout contest this season.

WORKING ON A COLE MINE:
Tonight’s game will be NHL game number 400 for Flames winger Blake Coleman. The two-time Stanley Cup Champion started his NHL career in New Jersey and was a third round pick of the Devils back in 2011. He was traded to Tampa Bay at the trade deadline in 2020 and would go on to win back-to-back Stanley Cup titles with the Lightning. He signed with the Flames as a free agent prior to the start of last season and skated in 81 of 82 games for the Flames in 2021-22 and all 17 games for the Flames so far this year.

WINNING IN WELLS FARGO:
The Flames have collected points in four straight trips to Wells Fargo Center (3-0-1) and boast a .618 winning percentage at Wells Fargo. Calgary has collected 21 of a possible 34 points all-time at the Wells Fargo Center going 9-5-1-2.

DID YOU KNOW?
Rasmus Andersson scored his first NHL goal against Philadelphia in a 6-5 overtime win back in December of 2018. Despite playing in opposite conferences since Calgary moved from Atlanta, the Flames and Flyers have met in the playoffs. Back in the Flames first season in Calgary in 1980-81, the Flames faced the Flyers in second round of the 1981 Stanley Cup Playoffs, beating them in seven games. Tyler Toffoli is one goal away from 200 in his NHL career. He can become the sixth skater from the 2010 NHL Draft class to reach the mark and the first among players drafted after the first round.

The game was a 3-0 decision in Toronto’s favor. Forwards Josh Bailey and Zach Parise lead active Islanders in career points against the Maple Leafs, each with 23. Bailey has recorded seven goals and 16 assists in 39 games against Toronto, and Parise has 10 goals and 13 assists, also in 39 games against them. Jean-Gabriel Pageau has tallied 11 assists in 27 career matchups against the Maple Leafs, tied for the most against any single opponent in his career (New Jersey). AGAINST THE ATLANTIC
The Islanders collected their first win of the season against an Atlantic Division opponent last week. They can collect their second straight victory against an Atlantic Division opponent tonight, after visiting Ottawa on Nov. 14 and earning a 4-2 win against the Senators.

ON THE ROAD
Tonight, the Islanders conclude a four-game road trip, their longest of the season so far. The Islanders look to split their road trip 2-2-0 with this evening’s matchup, after falling to Nashville (5-4) and Dallas (5-2) in their last two games. Entering tonight’s game, the Islanders are 5-3-0 in their last eight road matchups. Through 10 road games this season, the Islanders have outscored opponents 33-31. The Islanders will look to earn their sixth road win of the season tonight, bringing them above .500 in road games.

POWER PLAY
Saturday night in Dallas, Mathew Barzal scored on the power play as the Islanders found the back of the net with a man advantage for the third straight game. Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored power play goals in consecutive games on Nov. 14 and 17, and Oliver Wahlstrom also scored a PPG in Monday’s win in Ottawa.
