The Ducks picked up one point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks Wednesday night at Rogers Arena. The Ducks has zero penalty minutes in the contest for the 11th time in franchise history (last: Jan. 23, 2019 vs. STL). Troy Terry netted his 18th goal at 3:40 of the opening frame, his fifth goal in seven games (5-1=6). Terry’s goal extended his point streak vs. Vancouver to six straight games dating to March 26, 2019 (4-6=10), the longest active point streak by a Ducks player vs. a single opponent. Brock McGinn scored his first goal and point as a Duck at 14:43 (game-tying goal), his 11th overall this season. Trevor Zegras tallied his team-leading 34th assist, marking points in four straight games (2-3=5). Mason McTavish earned his fifth helper the last five games on Terry’s goal (1-5=6). Max Jones and Ryan Strome also tallied assists. Lukas Dostal stopped 31-of-34 shots in regulation and OT to help Anaheim earn the point.

ANAHEIM DUCKS NOTES
TONIGHT’S GAME: The Anaheim Ducks conclude a three-game road trip tonight against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome (6 p.m. PT, TV: Bally Sports SoCal AUDIO: Ducks Stream). Anaheim enters tonight with points in six of their last seven games (4-1-2) and a seven of the last nine (4-2-3). The Ducks have also earned points in 11 of the last 17 games overall (8-6-4) and are 9-7-4 the last 20 contests. On the road, Anaheim has recorded points in four of the last six games (2-2-2), 10 of the last 14 (6-4-4) and 12 of the last 17 contests away from home (8-5-4).Following tonight’s game, the Ducks will return to Orange County to open aneight-game homestand beginning Sunday, March 12 vs. Nashville (6:30 p.m. PT).

DUCKS-FLAMES: Anaheim and Calgary continue a four-game season series tonight with the first contest at Scotiabank Saddledome. The Ducks earned a point in the 2022-23 series opener, a 3-2 OT loss Dec. 23 in Orange County. Lukas Dostal made 42 saves in his lone appearance against Calgary, his second-most saves in a single game. The Ducks own a 61-45-11 all-time record vs. the Flames, including a 22-33-3 mark in Calgary. John Gibson (10-6-1) has a career 2.26 GAA, .921 SV% and two shutouts in 17 games vs. the Flames (16 starts). Kevin Shattenkirk (4-16=20 in 32 GP) and Jakob Silfverberg (10-10=20 in 33 GP) co-lead active Ducks skaters in scoring vs. the Flames. * The Stars scored early and often at KeyBank Center in Buffalo en route to the NHL’s first 10-goal performance of the season and tying the second-most in a game in franchise history.

* Four Metropolitan Division clubs skated to victories, including the Islanders who captured the NHL’s 50th multi-goal, third-period comeback win of the season – the most in a single campaign in League history.

* Erik Karlsson established a career-high for points in a season thanks in part to his third 20-goal campaign and first since 2014-15. 


STARS SCORE 10 GOALS ON THE ROAD FOR FIRST TIME IN NEARLY FOUR DECADES
Radek Faksa (2-0—2) was one of nine Stars players to find the back of the net as Dallas (35-17-13, 83 points) erupted for 10 goals to defeat Buffalo at KeyBank Center and strengthen its grip on first place in the Central Division standings. It was just the fourth time the franchise had at least that many skaters score in a single contest and the first since Oct. 17, 1985 (vs. DET). 

* The Stars also became just the fifth different team in the past five seasons to score 10 goals in a game, joining the Canadiens (10 vs. FLA on April 29, 2022 & 10 vs. DET on Dec. 2, 2017), Penguins (11 vs. DET on March 27, 2022), Maple Leas (10 vs. DET on Feb. 26, 2022) and the Blackhawks (10 vs. PIT on Oct. 5, 2017).




* Dallas teammates Joe Pavelski and Jamie Benn as well as Buffalo forward Jordan Greenway each potted a goal in a span of 28 seconds during the first period, marking the fastest three goals by both teams since the Maple Leafs and Coyotes combined for three in 21 seconds on Dec. 22, 2015.  

METROPOLITAN DIVISION’S TOP TEAMS TRIUMPH THURSDAY
The Hurricanes (43-12-8, 94 points), Devils (42-16-6, 90 points), Rangers (36-19-9, 81 points) and Islanders (34-25-8, 76 points), who occupy the top four seeds in the Metropolitan Division, each skated to wins:

* Pyotr Kochetkov (19 saves), who was recalled by Carolina after scoring a goal with the AHL’s Chicago Wolves on March 3, blanked Philadelphia to record his fourth shutout of the season. He matched the Hurricanes/Whalers franchise record for most in a single campaign by a rookie goaltender, a mark set by Peter Sidorkiewicz in 1988-89 (w/ HFD).

* Dawson Mercer (1-1—2) factored on both goals in regulation to extend to his point streak to 11 games and guided New Jersey to its League-leading 24th road win of the season – tied for the second most in a single season in franchise history and trailing only 1998-99 (28-10-3).  Mercer matched Brendan Shanahan (11 GP in 1989-90) for the longest run by a Devils/Rockies/Scouts player before age 22.

* Patrick Kane (1-1—2) recorded his first two points with New York and Artemi Panarin (0-3—3) became the eighth undrafted player (since 1963-64) to record at least seven 70-point seasons as the former Blackhawks teammates helped the Rangers edge the Canadiens in a shootout. Panarin’s three-assist performance was his 19th with New York, trailing only Brian Leetch (37 GP), Andy Bathgate (26 GP), Rod Gilbert (25 GP) and Mark Messier (21 GP) for the most in franchise history.

* The Islanders entered the third period trailing by two goals, but Anders Lee (2-0—2) scored the second of two New York tallies in a span of 4:14 with 1:15 remaining in regulation and set the stage for Brock Nelson’s seventh career overtime goal. The Islanders, who captured the NHL’s 50th multi-goal, third-period comeback win of 2022-23, posted their fourth such victory of the season – tied the Kings for the most among all teams.



KARLSSON NETS FIRST 20-GOAL SEASON SINCE 2014-15
The latest edition of #NHLStats: Live Updates featured notes from the Pacific Division teams in action Thursday including the Golden Knights, Kings and Oilers earning wins as well as Erik Karlsson (1-0—1) – who opened the scoring for the Sharks with his NHL-leading 20th goal among defensemen in 2022-23. It marked his third career 20-goal campaign following 2014-15 (21 in 82 GP and 2013-14 (20 in 82 GP).

* Karlsson (32 years, 282 days) became the second defenseman in NHL history to record eight or more years between 20-goal seasons (21 in 2014-15), joining Mathieu Schneider who had an 11-year stretch (20 in 1993-94 & 21 in 2005-06).

PANTHERS, FLAMES CONTINUE PURSUIT OF WILD CARD SPOT
A two-game Friday will see the Panthers (32-27-6, 70 points) and Flames (29-23-13, 71 points) – who both occupy third place in their conference’s Wild Card race – continue their pursuit of playoff positioning when they host the Blackhawks and Ducks, respectively.

* Matthew Tkachuk (28-53—81 in 62 GP) leads the Panthers in points in 2022-23, with 26 more than the next closest skater (Carter Verhaeghe: 32-23—55 in 64 GP). His next point will tie Sam Reinhart (33-49—82 in 2021-22) for the most by a player in their first season with the franchise.

* The Bruins can become the fastest team in NHL history to reach 50 wins in a season and can clinch a spot in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs when they clash with the Oilers on Hulu, ESPN+, Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

BRUINS TAKE FIRST SHOT AT AN EARLY CLINCH ON NATIONAL BROADCAST
The NHL-leading Bruins (49-8-5, 103 points) can become the fastest team to 50 wins in NHL history and have a chance to clinch a playoff spot when they square off with Connor McDavid and the Oilers (35-22-8, 78 points) on Hulu, ESPN+, Sportsnet and TVA Sports.




* Boston can clinch a playoff berth with a win against Edmonton and pending results from other games. Playing in their 63rd contest Thursday, the Bruins would secure their seventh consecutive trip to the Stanley Cup Playoffs and 76th all-time.

* Overall, 17 teams have clinched a playoff spot in fewer than 70 outings under an 82-game schedule (which was first introduced in 1995-96). That includes two clubs that secured a postseason berth in 63 games or less: the 1995-96 Red Wings (59 GP) and 1998-99 Stars (63 GP).
 


* McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were the first two players to hit 100 points last season and are on track to do so again in 2022-23 with the latter sitting four points shy (41-55—96 in 63 GP). It would be the second time in NHL history that the same teammates have been the first two players to 100 points in consecutive seasons – the only such instance to date was by Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr of the Bruins in1973-74 and 1974-75.

* Draisaitl, with six goals and four power-play tallies in his past five road games (6-1—7 since Feb. 19), is tied for the most power-play goals in a single season among active players – his next such marker will be the most by any skater since 2005-06 (Ilya Kovalchuk: 27). McDavid, meanwhile, needs three power-play points to tie Sidney Crosby (61 in 2006-07 w/ PIT) for the most in a single season by any active player.


* Prior to the Bruins-Oilers showdown, we spotlight the various charities Boston forward Nick Foligno is involved with. A veteran of over 1,000 NHL games and a recipient of the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2016-17, Foligno has recorded 10-16—26 in 60 games this season but has missed time since Feb. 28 due to injury.






MILLER CAPS CANUCKS’ COMEBACK WITH OT WINNER
J.T. Miller (2-0—2) found the back of the net twice in his 700th NHL game – including scoring the overtime winner – and Elias Pettersson (0-2—2) posted a multi-point performance to help the Canucks earn their 17th comeback win of the season. The only teams with more are the Devils (21), Maple Leafs (20), Penguins (19) and Bruins (18).

* Miller, who became the first Canucks player to score multiple goals in their 700th NHL game, tied Sami Salo (7) for the third-most overtime tallies in franchise history behind only Daniel Sedin (16) and Brendan Morrison (9).

* Pettersson (30-51—81 in 62 GP) became just the second Canucks player in the past 10 years to reach the 80-point mark in a season, following Miller (99 in 2021-22).



WILD PICK UP WIN IN WINNIPEG TO EXTEND POINT STREAK TO 11 GAMES
Ryan Hartman scored the winning goal and Marc-Andre Fleury made 46 saves – one shy of his most in a regular-season game – as Minnesota defeated Winnipeg and extended the NHL’s longest active point streak to 11 contests dating to Feb. 17 (9-0-2). The Wild (37-21-7, 81 points) moved into a tie in standing points with the Central Division-leading Stars (34-17-13, 81 points), who hold a game in hand and are in action Thursday.
