ON THE ROAD AGAIN
The Panthers play seven of their next nine games on the road. Florida ranks fourth in the NHL in shots on goal per game on the road (34.4). Matthew Tkachuk paces the Cats in assists (14) and points (22) away from FLA Live Arena, while Carter Verhaeghe’s 10 road tallies lead the team. TONIGHT’S OPPONENT: ARIZONA COYOTES
The Arizona Coyotes are hoping to put an end to a five-game skid as they host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday at Mullett Arena, entering the game on the heels of a 4-1 setback against the Pittsburgh Penguins Sunday. Barrett Hayton put Arizona ahead 1-0 at the 5:18 mark of the opening frame before four unanswered goals from the visiting team. San Jose won the lone meeting between the clubs earlier this season, a 3-2 decision on Dec. 13, a game in which Karel Vejmelka stopped 30 of 33 shot faced. The Coyotes are led offensively by Clayton Keller, with the All Star selection boasting 37 points on the season with four (1g, 3a) in the past five games.

STORYLINES
DEFENSE TO OFFENSE…With an assist provided by Marc-Edouard Vlasic on Oskar Lindblom’s second period goal at DAL on Dec. 31, San Jose became the first NHL team to have their defensemen reach 100 points on the season. San Jose blueliners then added five points (1g, 4a) on Jan. 1, with four of the six in the game finding the score sheet, and another three helpers on Jan. 6 at Anaheim. Most recently, Sharks defensemen combined for three points against Boston on Jan. 7 with Mario Ferraro scoring a goal and Matt Benning and Vlasic adding assists. The Sharks lead the league in assists (92) and points (111) from defensemen this season. Last campaign, the Sharks finished 23rd and 25th in the League with 151 points and 117 assists, respectively, from defensemen.

Their seven-game road trip is their longest such stretch of the season and will conclude on Jan. 14 at Chicago. The team’s current stretch of seven road games are the most consecutive games they have played on the road in franchise history.

• A win tonight would give the Kraken wins in at least six consecutive games for the second time this season. The team previously a franchise-best seven straight games from Nov. 17 to Dec. 1. Their five-game win streak is tied with the Winnipeg Jets for the longest active win streak in the NHL.

• If the Kraken are victorious tonight, it would make the Sabres the third team that Seattle has defeated four times (Los Angeles, San Jose) and the first team that the Kraken have won four consecutive games against a single opponent. The Kraken are 3-0-0 all-time against the Sabres.

• A win tonight would also make the Sabres the fifth team that the Kraken have defeated in consecutive road games. They have previously won at least two consecutive road games against the Florida Panthers (Nov. 27, 2021 and Dec. 1, 2022), Los Angeles Kings (March 28, 20222, Oct. 13, 2022 and Nov. 29, 2022), Montreal Canadiens (March 12, 2022 and Jan. 9, 2023) and the Pittsburgh Penguins (Jan. 27, 2022 and Nov. 5, 2022).

• Yesterday’s game against the Canadiens and tonight’s game against the Sabres is the Kraken’s second back-to-back set this season. The team will play in eight total back-to-back sets this year, five of which where both games are played on the road. The Kraken went 1-0-1 in the first back-to-back set of the season, falling 5-4 in overtime to the Ducks on Oct. 12 and defeating the Kings 4-1 on Oct. 13.

• The Kraken are one of four teams (Boston, Nashville, Winnipeg) to have not lost a game in 2023 and the only team to have five wins.

• Jamie Oleksiak’s next point will be the 100th of his NHL career. He is set to become the seventh defenseman from the 2011
