MLS Preview: Columbus Crew SC (4-2-2) at Charlotte FC (1-4-3)

0

Last season, Charlotte FC and Columbus Crew SC played each other to a draw. In June’s 1-1 draw at Lower.com Field, the Crew scored first, and in October’s 2-2 draw at Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte FC overcame a 2-0 Crew lead. In both matches, Andre Shinyashiki made a goal.

In its last five matches, Charlotte FC has not lost a single one (W1 D3), including both of its home games. If Charlotte FC does not lose to the Columbus Crew SC, it will become the first club in its history to lose only once in six matches.

On Saturday, the New England Revolution and the Columbus Crew SC played out a 1-1 draw after the Columbus Crew SC scored in the final eight minutes. Columbus Group SC has lost just five of its last 30 normal season matches (W11 D14)dating back to late May 2022 as just FC Cincinnati (4) has less losses in that time (barring St. Louis City SC).

Two minutes and 31 seconds apart, Kerwin Vargas and Kamil Jozwiak scored for Charlotte FC against the Colorado Rapids. It was the third time in Charlotte FC’s MLS history that it scored twice in the space of three minutes. It also did so against D. C. United and Nashville SC last season.

After scoring against Toronto FC in June, Sean Zawadski scored the equalizing goal for the Columbus Crew SC in the eight minutes of extra time on Saturday. This was his second goal in MLS history. In his 11 MLS games, Zawadski has only attempted two shots and scored two goals.

“I commend Trevor for speaking up about his mental health, and for taking action to address it,” said A’s general manager David Forst. “The whole A’s organization supports him fully and we are committed to giving Trevor whatever time he needs to be ready to return to playing, as well as continued resources to help all our players tackle the physical and mental challenges they face daily.”
