NBA Preview: Memphis Grizzlies (38-25) at Los Angeles Lakers (31-34)

0

The Memphis Grizzlies face the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday, and one of their challenges is the absence of star Ja Morant.

As the team holds him out of action while the NBA investigates his behavior, Morant will miss a second consecutive game. In a social media video that he posted live early Saturday morning in the Denver area following the Grizzlies’ loss to the Nuggets on Friday night, Morant appeared to be holding a gun.

The Grizzlies were without Morant, Dillon Brooks (suspension for one game), Brandon Clarke (season-ending Achilles injury), Steven Adams (knee), and Dillon Brooks (suspension for one game). On Sunday, the Grizzlies put together a huge third quarter rally to move ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers, but they ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, losing 135-129 on the road. Clarke and Adams will also be absent from the Lakers game.

On Sunday, Memphis used a 51-point third quarter to turn an 11-point deficit into a 16-point lead, but when the Clippers made defensive adjustments in the fourth quarter, they lacked a finishing touch.

Tyus Jones of the Grizzlies scored 20 points in the third quarter alone, but he did not score in the fourth. Memphis was led by 30 points from Desmond Bane.

The Lakers have every reason to be hopeful going into the game on Tuesday.

In an effort to qualify for the postseason, Los Angeles has won five of its last seven games and is 4-2 since the All-Star break. The Lakers started NBA play on Monday in 11th place in the conference, just a few spots away from qualifying for the play-in tournament.

Despite losing star LeBron James to a tendon injury in his right foot for the past four games, the team has been able to hold its own recently. Additionally, D’Angelo Russell has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the last five games. Russell was listed as questionable for Tuesday, but James remains out.

In an effort to influence the team’s bid for the playoffs, Anthony Davis upped his game. Davis, who suffered his own lower leg injury and missed 20 games in December and January, has averaged 33.8 points and 11.8 rebounds in his last four games.

Davis scored 39 points on 14 of 25 (56 percent) shooting in Sunday’s 113-105 victory over the Golden State Warriors at home. Despite the injury to his right foot, he is listed as probable for Tuesday.

On February 28, the Lakers lost to Memphis 121-109, but Davis contributed by scoring 28 points and grabbing 19 rebounds. In that game, Morant had 39 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for a triple-double.

NBA Preview: Utah Jazz (31-34) at Dallas Mavericks (33-32)

0

The Mavericks didn’t have their two stars when they played the Utah Jazz last month in Salt Lake City. Kyrie Irving, who had just been traded from Brooklyn, had not yet joined the team and Luka Doncic was out with a bruised heel.

Josh Green and Jaden Hardy scored 29 points for Dallas, which beat the host Jazz 124-111 without a hitch.

For the Jazz to pull off a road upset when the two teams meet for the fourth time this season on Tuesday night in Dallas, they will need to be anything but casual.

Utah has lost three straight and is without several key players, including Mike Conley and Malik Beasley, who have been traded.

The Jazz were defeated by Oklahoma City for the second time in three days on Sunday, the same day that the Mavericks lost to the Phoenix Suns.

Jordan Clarkson’s career-high assist performance was the only bright spot for the Jazz in their loss on Sunday. The Utah guard, who has spent most of his career being known as a shooter, showed that his game has changed by giving out 12 assists in addition to scoring 18 points.

Utah will play this as their third of six road games. The Mavericks are coming to the end of a six-game homestand in which they have only won two of their last five games.

Dallas is very close to being in the thick of things when it comes time for the Western Conference playoffs, as the game against the Suns on Sunday demonstrated. After Doncic’s game-tying attempt with three seconds left spun off the rim, Kevin Durant hit a late jumper to break the tie, and Phoenix won 130-126.

Despite suffering from a thigh injury that limited his mobility, Doncic still managed to score 34 points and grab nine rebounds. He told reporters that the injury to his leg has been causing him problems for about a week. He has no idea when it occurred.

Doncic was associated with a disagreement with Suns monitor Devin Booker in the winding down snapshots of Sunday’s down. Technical fouls were assessed to both players.

The Jazz made the announcement on Monday that Collin Sexton, who has a strain in his left hamstring, will be re-evaluated in a week.

NBA Preview: Golden State Warriors (34-31) at Oklahoma City Thunder (30-34)

0

Stephen Curry is aware that even though he and Andre Iguodala are both back from injuries, nothing is certain.

Iguodala played for the first time since Jan. 13 and only the fourth time this season after battling hip ailments, while Curry returned from an 11-game absence due to a left leg injury for Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Starting with Tuesday’s game against the host Oklahoma City Thunder, Curry and the Warriors are hoping for better results down the road.

In Golden State’s loss on Sunday, Curry shot 8 of 20 overall and 5 of 13 from beyond the arc, snapping the team’s five-game winning streak.

The Warriors are just five games behind the No. 1 team heading into Tuesday’s game. 2nd place in the Western Conference, just one game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Clippers, the first two play-in teams.

Tuesday’s down is the second of a stretch wherein the Fighters play eight of 10 games from home.

The Warriors are just 7-24 outside of San Francisco, despite the fact that Golden State is 27-7 at home this season—only Denver has more wins at home than any other Western Conference team.

Golden State is the final game in a six-game homestand for the Thunder.

Oklahoma City has won back-to-back games after dropping their first three games, extending their overall losing streak to five. Over the weekend, the Thunder won both of their games against Utah.

Curry’s return went a little bit more smoothly than Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s.

In Sunday’s victory over the Jazz, Gilgeous-Alexander, who returned after missing five games, scored 38 points on 10-of-17 shooting.

Before returning, Gilgeous-Alexander was subjected to the league’s health and safety protocols and was suffering from an abdominal strain.

Thunder mentor Imprint Daigneault changed Gilgeous-Alexander’s normal turn, in some measure in his most memorable game back.

This season, the teams have met three times, including on Tuesday. With an average of 134.5 points per game, Golden State has won the first two games.

Klay Thompson scored 42 points and made 12 3-pointers in the most recent matchup, which took place in San Francisco on February 6 and saw Golden State win 141-114. Even without Curry, the Warriors made 26 3-pointers in that victory.

NBA Preview: Brooklyn Nets (36-28) at Houston Rockets (15-49)

0

Mikal Bridges, a forward, is largely to blame for the Brooklyn Nets’ refusal to wilt, despite the prediction that they would die after losing Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

After a four-game losing streak, the Nets’ 102-86 victory over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday marked their second consecutive double-digit victory, lifting them to 4-6 since the trade deadline.

On Tuesday, Brooklyn will face the Houston Rockets, who, despite winning their 11th straight game on Saturday, remain in the bottom half of the Western Conference standings. Brooklyn will be looking to extend its modest winning streak against the Rockets. On March 29, the teams will meet once more in Brooklyn.

After trading Irving and Durant to Dallas and Phoenix, respectively, the Nets entered Monday with a three-game lead over Miami for sixth in the Eastern Conference, a position that would allow Brooklyn to avoid the play-in tournament. This meant that they were not eliminated from the playoff picture.

In the Nets’ victory over the Hornets, Bridges scored 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds. In his nine games with the Nets, he has averaged 26.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists while shooting 60.9 percent from the field. Before joining Brooklyn as part of the Durant trade, he played 56 games for the Suns and averaged 17.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, shooting 52.9 percent from the field.

Bridges has scored 30 or more points four times in his first 365 games with the Nets, having previously done so twice. In the win over Boston on Friday, he scored 38 points and grabbed ten rebounds.

The Houston Rockets have been scoring a lot more lately. Over the weekend, they beat the San Antonio Spurs twice to win consecutive games for the first time in more than a month.

The Rockets scored 34 transition points in their 142-110 victory at home on Sunday after scoring 30 fast-break points in a 12-point victory in San Antonio. Seven Rockets scored in double figures in the season-series finale, led by Jalen Green, who scored 31 points on 11-of-19 shooting in the first victory. Houston had 29 assists overall.

The Rockets have a lot of athleticism, but they haven’t mastered playing at a fast pace. They demonstrated how potent their offense can be when they run with purpose and abandon against the Spurs.

NBA Preview: Philadelphia Sixers (42-22) at Minnesota Timberwolves (34-32)

0

When the Philadelphia 76ers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday in Minneapolis, they will be aiming to finish a five-game road trip with a record of 4-1.

On Monday, the Sixers defeated the host Indiana Pacers 147-143 to win for the third time in four games. This victory came just two days after the Sixers defeated the Milwaukee Bucks by an impressive score of 133-130 to end their 16-game winning streak.

Against Indiana, James Harden added 14 points, 20 assists, and nine rebounds, while Joel Embiid scored 42 points. Harden became the first Sixer player in the franchise’s history to record two games with at least 20 assists.

A franchise record for the most free throws made in a game without a miss was set by Embiid, who shot 19-for-19 from the line.

Jalen McDaniels scored 20 points in his first start for the Sixers, who were without P.J. Tucker and Tobias Harris. Tyrese Maxey scored 24 points.

Both Tucker and Harris sustained injuries in Milwaukee, but they are anticipated to be available for the Timberwolves game.

McDaniels insists that he will be prepared for any role.

When the Timberwolves take on the Sixers, they will be aiming for their fourth consecutive victory.

Minnesota had impressive road victories over the Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers. On Saturday, the Timberwolves prevailed 138-134 over the Kings.

Anthony Edwards drove the way with 27 places and eight helps and Mike Conley added 24 focuses. Rudy Gobert had 13 points and 14 rebounds, Jaden McDaniels had 19 points, Kyle Anderson had 18 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, and Jaden McDaniels had 19 points.

In the balanced effort, Nickeil Alexander-Walker (16 points) and Naz Reid (10 points) also scored in double figures.

Edwards scored two crucial baskets in the closing minutes to secure the victory over Sacramento.

Over the last three games, the inconsistent Timberwolves appear to have slowed down. Keep in mind that they are winning despite not having their star player, Karl-Anthony Towns, who is still out with a calf injury.

NBA Preview: Charlotte Hornets (20-46) at New York Knicks (39-27)

0

The Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks are moving in opposite directions.

However, on Tuesday night in New York, they will meet for the final time this season.

After beating Boston 131-129 in double overtime on Sunday, the Knicks now have a nine-game winning streak. It marked New York’s second week-long victory over the Celtics.

After a five-game winning streak, which was the longest of the season, the Hornets have lost three straight. Without their most dynamic player and out of playoff contention, Charlotte may struggle the remainder of the season.

The Knicks appear to be going full speed ahead toward the playoffs, despite having the fifth-best record in the Eastern Conference. Despite their desire not to be derailed by the Hornets, they will undoubtedly require energy replenishment following three nights of two-point road victories, the first of which was against Miami.

Only three times this season has Immanuel Quickley scored a team-high 38 points for the Knicks, a career high.

However, for the majority of the Knicks’ efforts, Randle remains the center of attention. He has scored 32 points per game over the past six contests.

With Jalen Brunson (foot) out of the lineup, Quickley took over.

Since LaMelo Ball’s season-ending ankle injury last week, the Hornets have faced offensive challenges.

Clifford has criticized the team’s lack of ball movement, particularly in their defeat to the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday, when they lost 102-96.

For the past three games, Kelly Oubre Jr. has been Charlotte’s leading scorer. At Brooklyn, he scored just 17 points and missed all four of his attempts at a 3-pointer.

In the absence of Ball, Dennis Smith has continued to play on the bench, but in many instances, he has been the Hornets’ sole true point guard. Even though Smith played a significant role earlier in the season when injuries reduced the Hornets’ backcourt, this is a time of adjustment.

Focus Imprint Williams had another twofold in the Brooklyn game, giving the freshman seven this season.

On the road, on December 9, the Knicks defeated Charlotte 121-102 and beat the Hornets 134-131 in overtime.

NBA Preview: Milwaukee Bucks (46-18) at Orlando Magic (27-38)

0

The Milwaukee Bucks seem to like life on the road, as they have won seven of their last eight games away from Fiserv Forum.

On Tuesday, the Bucks will face the developing Orlando Magic, who are making a late push for a spot in the Eastern Conference play-in tournament, and they will attempt to extend the streak.

Milwaukee came back on Sunday with a 117-111 road victory over the Washington Wizards, snapping the team’s 16-game winning streak one night earlier.

The Bucks were led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was one rebound away from recording his fourth triple-double of the season. He missed a shot on purpose to get the rebound from No. 10 in the final seconds, and on Monday, the NBA removed the board.

In the past month, Milwaukee has been shooting well from three-point range, and that trend continued against the Wizards. Six players made at least two 3-pointers for the Bucks, who connected on 22 of 49 (44.9 percent) attempts from beyond the arc.

In the game against Washington, Jevon Carter and Joe Ingles scored 34 points for the Bucks, providing a spark off the bench. Carter scored 20 points while going 7 of 13 from the field, including 6 of 10 from beyond the arc, and Ingles hit four three-pointers.

The first meeting between Milwaukee and Orlando ended in a 139-117 victory for Milwaukee.

Orlando has lost three of its last five games, the most recent of which was Sunday’s 122-119 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers. Markelle Fultz had 15 points, eight assists, and four steals for the Magic, which was led by Paolo Banchero with 26 points and 24 from Franz Wagner.

Center Wendell Carter Jr. (left hip pain) and guard Gary Harris (hip) were both listed as day-to-day for Orlando’s game.

In his last two games, Banchero has scored 28.5 points on 50 percent shooting and is still leading the NBA Rookie of the Year competition. 25 times, the 6-foot-10 forward has scored more than anyone else on the team.

Orlando will need a strong offensive effort to keep up with Milwaukee if it is to avoid its first two-game losing streak since late January. The Magic are currently in 13th place in the conference and are still determined to advance to the play-in tournament (seeds 7-10).

NBA Preview: Washington Wizards (30-34) at Detroit Pistons (15-50) – Makeup from Feb. 1

0

Over the weekend, the Washington Wizards were buried under a flurry of 3-pointers. However, on Tuesday night, when they play the struggling Detroit Pistons, they will try to change course and get hot.

On Saturday, Washington fell to Toronto in overtime after Raptors guard Fred VanVleet made two crucial three-pointers in the extra session.

After that, on Sunday, Milwaukee defeated the Wizards 117-111, making 22 attempts from beyond the arc.

With the back-to-back defeats, Washington, which is vying for a postseason berth, fell to 30-34. The Wizards have won just two games in a row since January, when they went on a six-game winning streak.

In the game against the Bucks, Bradley Beal scored 33 points for Washington, while Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points and 13 rebounds.

During a challenging month in which the Wizards play 16 games, Porzingis is attempting to maintain a positive outlook.

After playing 42 minutes against the Raptors, Kyle Kuzma had a sore right knee and missed the game against the Bucks. Both he and Monte Morris, who has a sore lower back, are listed as questionable for the Detroit matchup on Tuesday.

In addition to the second game of a five-game homestand, the Pistons will play the second game of a back-to-back.

Monday, Portland defeated Detroit 110-104 to end its eight-game losing streak. After the Trail Blazers scored the first ten points, the Pistons never extended their lead.

As much as 19 points separated Detroit, which committed 16 errors.

Bojan Bogdanovic, the Pistons’ leading scorer, and three other regulars were sidelined by a variety of injuries while the team played without them. A haphazard rotation could have caused the sluggish start.

With 17 points, forward Isaiah Livers led seven Pistons in double figures, his best offensive performance of the season. Typically, Livers shoots from beyond the three-point arc, but on Monday, he scored four of his seven points inside the arc.
