Wallner went 1-for-4 with one run scored in the Saints’ 6-1 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers at CHS Field earlier today. This is his second stint in the majors this season, after going 0-for-8 with one walk, two hit-by-pitches and one run scored in six games with Minnesota from April 8-15. The 25-year-old has also hit .270 (30-for-111) with nine doubles, one triple, four home runs, 16 RBI, 19 walks, 16 runs scored and an .865 OPS in 31 games for St. Paul this season.

Game 2 Recap
May 21 – Vegas Golden Knights 3, Dallas Stars 2 OT
Chandler Stephenson’s goal at 1:12 of overtime was the difference as the Vegas Golden Knights earned a 3-2 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of the Western Conference Final on Sunday afternoon at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas leads the series, 2-0. Miro Heiskanen got the Stars on the board less than three minutes into the contest, but Mark Stone’s powerplay goal midway through the frame brought the game back to even. Jason Robertson had the only goal in the middle frame as Dallas carried a 2-1 lead into the third period. Jonathan Marchessault buried a no-look pass from Jack Eichel at 17:38 of the final stanza to send the game to overtime. Less than two minutes into the extra session, Stephenson tracked down a Shea Theodore rebound and buried it to give the Golden Knights the 2-0 lead in the series.

VGK/DAL – Regular Season Recap
The Golden Knights held a 0-1-2 record against the Stars in the 2022-23 regular season. In the first matchup, Vegas was shut out, 4-0, by Jake Oettinger. In the second contest, Michael Amadio and Jack Eichel each scored to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 advantage, until Roope Hintz scored in the final 38 seconds of regulation to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless extra session, it was Jason Robertson and Hintz who each put pucks past Laurent Brossoit to secure the comeback win in the shootout. In the final meeting of the season, Brett Howden got Vegas on the board first, but Joel Kiviranta tied things up for Dallas and forced overtime. Neither team was able to finish things in the extra session and it was Hintz who was the shootout hero again.

2022-23 Season DAL Series: 0-1-2 (Home: 0-1-1, Road: 0-0-1)

Comeback Season
The Golden Knights completed their eighth comeback win of the postseason on Sunday and became the sixth team in NHL playoff history to do so in four straight games. Vegas has allowed the first goal in 10 of their 13 playoff games this year and holds a record of 7-3 after allowing the first goal in the game. Vegas’ three games scoring first are the fewest among the final four teams in the 2023 playoffs.

Overtime Experts
Vegas has won back-to-back overtime games against Dallas in the Western Conference Final to improve to 3-0 this postseason when going past regulation. In their consecutive victories, the Golden Knights have scored the game-winning goal within the first two minutes of overtime, becoming the fourth team in NHL history to do so. Sunday’s overtime was also the fourth time in franchise history that Vegas has closed out an overtime game in the first two minutes, the most of all teams in the NHL since their inaugural season in 2017-18.

Magic Number
Vegas is 42-3 all-time when scoring at least three goals in the playoffs, including wins in each of the last 30 such instances. In all three losses this postseason, the Golden Knights have been held to a single goal.

In the Winning Business
Vegas (48-31 in 79 GP) has a postseason winning percentage of .608, leading all NHL franchises. The Golden Knights’ 48 playoff wins are the second-most in the NHL since 2017-18, trailing only Tampa Bay’s 98 victories.

Rulers of the Realm
For the third time in six seasons, the Golden Knights finished first in the Pacific Division (2017-18, 2019-20 previously) and entered the postseason as the number one seed in the Western Conference for the first time.

NHL Morning Skate: Stanley Cup Playoffs Edition – May 23, 2023

0

Matthew Tkachuk factored on another game-winning goal in the Eastern Conference Final as the Panthers opened up a 3-0 series lead and moved within one win of the franchise’s second-ever berth in the Stanley Cup Final.

Sergei Bobrovsky earned his NHL-leading 10th win of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs and did so thanks to his first career postseason shutout in his 58th playoff start.

* The Stars and Golden Knights will contest Game 3 of the Western Conference Final on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports when the puck drops at American Airlines Center.

TKACHUK’S FIRST SEASON WITH PANTHERS HAS CLUB ONE WIN AWAY FROM FINAL
Matthew Tkachuk (0-1—1) assisted on the only goal of the contest and Sergei Bobrovsky turned aside all 32 shots he faced as the Panthers opened up a 3-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference Final. Florida now sits one victory away from securing their second berth in the Stanley Cup Final in franchise history (4-0 L in 1996).

* The Panthers, who also opened up a 3-0 series lead against the Maple Leafs in the Second Round, became the first team in NHL history to enter a postseason as the lowest-seeded team and own multiple 3-0 leads in a best-of-seven series that same playoff year.

* The Eastern Conference Final became the fifth Conference Finals/Semifinals series in NHL history to feature each of the first three games conclude with neither team owning a two-goal lead at any point. The others: 2002 Conference Finals (3 GP: CAR vs. TOR), 1995 Conference Finals (3 GP: DET vs. CHI), 1938 Semifinals (3 GP: TOR vs. BOS) and 1933 Semifinals (3 GP: TOR vs BOS).

Tkachuk has now factored on three game-winning goals this series (2-1—3). The only players in NHL history to record a point on all four game-winning tallies in the penultimate round of the playoffs are Yvan Cournoyer (1-3—4 w/ MTL in 1976), Mike Bossy (4-0—4 w/ NYI in 1983), Ray Bourque (1-3—4 w/ BOS in 1988), Wayne Gretzky (2-2—4 w/ LAK in 1993) and Ondrej Palat (2-2—4 w/ TBL in 2022).

* Tkachukboosted his 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs totals to 7-12—19 (15 GP) and sits one point away from becoming the seventh player in the past decade with 20 or more points in his first postseason with a franchise. He would join Ryan O’Reilly (23 in 2019 w/ STL), Reilly Smith (22 in 2018 w/ VGK), Jonathan Marchessault (21 in 2018 w/ VGK), Jake Guentzel (21 in 2017 w/ PIT), Phil Kessel (22 in 2016 w/ PIT) and Marian Gaborik (22 in 2014 w/ LAK).

MAN ON A MISSION: SERGEI BOBROVSKY
Sergei Bobrovsky (32 saves) picked up his NHL-leading 10th win of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs despite only making his first start of the postseason in Game 4 of the First Round against the 65-win Bruins.

* Bobrovsky, making his 58th career playoff start, became the third goaltender in franchise history to record a postseason shutout and the oldest netminder at the time of his first career playoff shutout since Tim Thomas (35 years, 340 days in Game 5 of 2009 CSF), who also achieved the feat against Rod Brind’Amour and the Hurricanes.

* Bobrovsky has made 132 saves against the Hurricanes and surpassed Johnny Bower (125 saves in 1960 SF vs. DET) for the most saves by a goaltender through the first three games of a Conference Final/Semifinals series (since 1955-56).

ICYMI: On the night the Panthers joined the Miami Heat (NBA) as the second team from the state of Florida to take a 3-0 lead in their Conference Finals series – and both doing so after entering the postseason as the lowest-seeded team in their conference – the Stanley Cup and Larry O’Brien Trophy met alongside the Commissioner’s Trophy (MLB) and the Philip F. Anschutz Trophy (MLS) for lunch at Katz’s Delicatessen in New York City on Thursday.

STARS, GOLDEN KNIGHTS SET FOR GAME 3 AT AMERICAN AIRLINES CENTER
The Stars aim to cut the Golden Knights’ series lead in half when they return home for Game 3 of the Western Conference Final on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports. The Stars franchise has overcome a 2-0 series deficit to win a best-of-seven once previously – the 1968 Quarterfinals, when the Minnesota North Stars rallied past the Kings to earn their first-ever series victory. Vegas, meanwhile, is 2-0 all-time when it takes a 3-0 series lead (2020 R1 & 2018 R1).

Miro Heiskanen scored in Game 2 and has 10-33—43 in 62 career postseason games. He can surpass Ray Bourque (11-32—43 in 42 GP) and Denis Potvin (16-27—43 in 42 GP) for the third-most playoff points among NHL defensemen before age 24 – Paul Coffey (32-50—82 in 67 GP) and Cale Makar (15-45—60 in 55 GP) rank first and second, respectively.

* Vegas overcame a deficit to win for the fourth straight game and eighth time in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the help of Chandler Stephenson’s overtime winner. Should they do so again Tuesday, the Golden Knights would become just the eighth team in NHL history with nine or more comeback wins in a single playoff year, following the 2022 Avalanche (10), 2009 Penguins (10), 2020 Stars (9), 2006 Hurricanes (9), 1999 Stars (9), 1980 Islanders (9) and 1971 Canadiens (9). Six of those seven teams went on to win the Stanley Cup, with Dallas (4-2 L in 2020 vs. TBL) standing as the only exception.

* Just like the Panthers and Hurricanes, the Golden Knights and Stars are also engaged in a tightly-contested series and have required overtime in each of their first two games. The 2023 Conference Finals are already the first in NHL history to have each of the first four games during the penultimate round of the postseason decided by a one-goal margin – the previous benchmark was three (1932, 1945 & 1960).

NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals Game 4 Preview: Boston Celtics (0-3) at Miami Heat (3-0)

0

Scintillating play by Jimmy Butler and consistent performances by Bam Adebayo have carried the eighth-seeded Miami Heat on their Cinderella run through the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Butler and Adebayo were not alone in Miami’s most recent outing, however.

After receiving a significant boost from an undrafted quartet of players, the Heat look to punch their ticket to their second NBA Finals appearance in four seasons on Tuesday when they host the Boston Celtics.

A resounding 128-102 victory on Sunday gave Miami a commanding 3-0 series lead over second-seeded Boston in the Eastern Conference final.

In NBA circles, a 3-0 deficit is akin to a death knell for the trailing club. No team in league history has overcome such a deficit to win a series.

Vincent and fellow undrafted players Duncan Robinson (22), Caleb Martin (18) and Max Strus (10) combined to score 79 points to allow Butler and Adebayo to essentially kick up their heels.

On the flip side, Boston’s celebrated duo of Jayson Tatum and Brown combined to make just 12 of 35 shots from the floor and 1 of 14 from 3-point range on Sunday. Brown, in fact, is just 2-for-20 from beyond the arc in the series.

As a team, the Celtics are shooting themselves in the foot from 3-point range (31-for-106, 29.2 percent), while the Heat are shooting the lights out (44-for-92, 47.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

Still, the most ardent of Boston fans will harken back to the time that the 2004 Red Sox overcame a 3-0 series deficit to stun the rival New York Yankees on their way toward winning the World Series. So, anything is possible.

Miami’s Kevin Love collected five quick points and two rebounds before exiting Sunday’s game with an apparent ankle injury. Spoelstra told reporters that the 34-year-old Love “says he’s fine” despite failing to return to the game.

WNBA Preview: Atlanta Dream (0-1) at Minnesota Lynx (0-1)

Hostile troubles prompted season-opening misfortunes for the Atlanta Dream and Minnesota Lynx. When these two teams meet on Tuesday night in Minneapolis, one of them will win for the first time.

Saturday’s 85-78 loss to Dallas saw the Dream shoot 35.4 percent from the field and commit 19 turnovers.

At halftime, Atlanta was 47-30 behind.

The Dream slowly decreased the deficiency and got inside three focuses with a little more than a moment remaining yet couldn’t polish off the rebound.

Rhyne Howard led the Dream with 20 places and 10 bounce back yet shot 8-for-24 from the field. While scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, Cheyenne Parker committed six errors.

Danielle Robinson, reserve guard, suffered a knee injury in the opening game.

Due to a terrible second quarter, the Lynx lost to the Chicago Sky 77-66 on Friday. The Lynx were outscored 22-3 during those 10 minutes and trailed 44-27 at the break.

Minnesota had 21 turnovers and a 33.3 percent shooting percentage for the game.

Kayla McBride and Napheesa Collier scored 29 points each, but they only made 9 of 26 field goals.

WNBA Preview: Connecticut Sun (2-0) at Washington Mystics (1-1)

Stephanie White, the new coach of the Connecticut Sun, didn’t have to wait long for information about her team to be confirmed.

When the teams finish their home-and-home series on Tuesday night, Connecticut will have another chance to show that it is tough when it travels to Washington, D.C.

The Sun got off to a slow start against the Mystics, trailing 24-14 after one quarter, despite having won the season opener by a score of 70-61 at Indiana. However, they gradually drew Washington in, reducing the lead to four at halftime and one point after three quarters before taking over in the final ten minutes.

Connecticut was led by 21 points from DeWanna Bonner. Alyssa Thomas contributed 14 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists, while Brionna Jones had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas has been a detail sheet stuffer in the initial two games, averaging 16 focuses, 13.5 bounce back and six helps.

Washington almost followed up its great 80-64 triumph over WNBA Finals most loved New York with a decent street win. However, the Spiritualists turned cold after an extraordinary first quarter, when they shot 47.1 percent from the field, to complete the game at 39.1 percent.

Shakira Austin (21 focuses, 11 bounce back) and Elena Delle Donne (19 focuses, 11 bounce back) each gathered twofold pairs for Washington. Natasha Cloud contributed 13 focuses and six helps.

Delle Donne is pacing a decent assault through two games with 16 places and 7.5 bounce back per game. Cloud and Austin each are scoring 13.5 focuses per game.

San Francisco Bay Area to Host SUPER BOWL LX in 2026

0

Minneapolis, MN – The National Football League announced that Super Bowl LX will be hosted in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2026, with the game played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The announcement was made today at the NFL Spring League Meeting in Minneapolis, following a review of the proposal by the Fan Engagement & Major Events Advisory Committee and a vote by full ownership.

“The Bay Area was an incredible host for Super Bowl 50, and we are thrilled to bring the Super Bowl back,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “We look forward to working with the 49ers and the Bay Area Host Committee to create an impactful Super Bowl LX in 2026 that showcases all the great things the region has to offer.”

Super Bowl LX comes exactly 10 years after Levi’s Stadium hosted Super Bowl 50 in 2016 and will be the second played in the stadium since opening in 2014. According to an independent study, Super Bowl 50 generated almost $250 million for the Bay Area economy

“We are honored to host the Super Bowl at Levi’s Stadium once again, and to be stewards of one of the biggest sporting events in the world,” said AL GUIDO, President of the San Francisco 49ers. “Since hosting Super Bowl 50 in 2016, Levi’s Stadium has cemented its reputation as a world-class venue. I’m confident Super Bowl LX will be a terrific event that benefits the entire community.”

As part of Super Bowl LX activities, the Bay Area will host a highly anticipated slate of events that make up Super Bowl Week, including NFL Honors, Super Bowl Experience, Super Bowl Opening Night, and a robust community program. The events are expected to take place across the Bay Area, with limitless opportunities for visitors and residents to have memorable experiences leading up to the game.

Minneapolis, MN – The NFL announced that the 2025 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light will take place in Green Bay, inside and around iconic Lambeau Field and Titletown.

The announcement was made today at the NFL Spring League Meeting in Minneapolis, following a review of the proposal by the Fan Engagement & Major Events Advisory Committee and full ownership.

“The Draft has become our biggest offseason event hosted in different cities and spectacular locations across the country, and we are excited to work with the Packers and Discover Green Bay to bring the 2025 NFL Draft to Green Bay and iconic Lambeau field,” said NFL Commissioner ROGER GOODELL. “With the help of numerous local partners on the ground, our prospects and fans will be treated to an incredible week-long experience that shows off the city of Green Bay and the state of Wisconsin.”

As part of the week-long event, Green Bay will host a slate of Draft activities including a variety of community events and the NFL Draft Experience – the league’s interactive football theme park. Draft Experience will provide fans a free opportunity to take part in participatory games, enjoy interactive exhibits, musical performances, autograph sessions and photo opportunities with the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

“This is an incredible day for the Packers, Greater Green Bay and the entire state of Wisconsin as we are excited and honored to be selected to host the 2025 NFL Draft,” said Packers President/CEO MARK MURPHY. “The Packers have a rich and proud history that goes back to the early days of the NFL and are the only community owned team. That connection to our League’s heritage combined with the great passion Packers fans will bring will make the Draft a memorable event for those in attendance and NFL fans watching around the world.”

As the Official Hospitality Partner of the NFL, On Location will offer guests premium seating options and elevated hospitality at the 2025 NFL Draft. Fans looking to get front-of-line access to view ticket and hospitality packages and secure their seat at the Draft can sign up via On Location’s website.

The most recent 2023 Draft was broadcast over three days and attracted more than 54 million total viewers and more than 312,000 fans in person in Kanas City.

The 2024 NFL Draft presented by Bud Light will take place in Detroit on April 25-27, 2024.
