Boxing: Wise Owl Boxing To Become Complete Management Firm

0

Management Company looking to add strategic partners to the management team to provide comprehensive services to fighters both inside and outside of the ring.

LOS ANGELES – Wise Owl Boxing is pleased to announce additional services to professional boxers under it’s management platform.

The company, headed by Mark Habibi, is looking to not only sign and expand its growing roster, but provide many supplemental and business services both inside and outside the ring.

.”I want to set Wise Owl Boxing apart from the competition. Our goal is to provide our fighters with a full-service management platform and to provide them the best representation available so they excel both inside AND outside of the ring. We care about our fighters and want to make sure they have all the resources available they need to set them up for success”.

Wise Owl has a two-part strategy to increase its presence in boxing management

The first involves collaborating with other managers to form alliances and create synergies. The second involves forming alliances with strategic partners/investors to create a full-service management team of preferred vendors/contractors that can assist the fighter with all their affairs outside of the ring.

Wise Owl is currently involved in the co-management of some fighters while it’s exclusively managing others.

The company believes that by being open to co-managing fighters, it allows more options for the fighters, thus creating more opportunities. “Joining forces is something I absolutely welcome. If there’s an opportunity to get involved with a great fighter I’m all about it. It’s all about energy. If the energy is right then the synergy could be tremendous and the fighter will benefit,” continued Habibi.

Wise Owl is also actively forming alliances with strategic partners/investors who will become preferred vendors/contractors of Wise Owl Boxing and will create a complete management team that can assist with all aspects of the fighter’s life.

These alliances range from attorneys, accountants, insurance agents, doctors, real estate agents, financial advisors, publicists, photographers, videographers, brand/marketing specialists, commercial/media agents, etc. These preferred vendors/contractors will be available to the fighters to provide advice and guidance. Fighters have no commitment to hire any of these consultants, but these consultants will be available upon request.

“The goal is to provide a full-service management team that can help the boxer from A-Z and provide assistance with just about anything. I don’t think any of the other managers out there are doing this and I want to go above and beyond for my guys”.

Wise Owl Boxing currently manages the careers of WBC ranked #1 super welterweight Charles Conwell, former world title contender Brandon Adams, DeAngelo Evans and Javon Woodard Jr.

Roughriders sign Lanier to One-Year extension; sign Linebacker McClain

0

REGINA — The Saskatchewan Roughriders made sure that head coach Corey Mace would have have a dangerous pass-rushing weapon as he implements his new scheme.

The Riders and defensive lineman Anthony Lanier II have agreed to a one-year extension, the team announced on Tuesday. The veteran was set to become a free agent on February 13.

Lanier II signed with the Riders in 2021 and has been a dominant force on the defensive line for three years in Saskatchewan. The defender has 14 sacks and two forced fumbles in 35 appearances with the Green and White.

The veteran is part of a defensive line that also featured Micah Johnson and Pete Robertson, both of whom are set to become free agents on February 13 if they don’t sign an extension with the team.

Lanier II (six-foot-six, 285 pounds) returns for 2024 after suiting up for 14 games last season. The versatile 30-year-old lined up at both defensive tackle and defensive end, tallying 19 tackles, five sacks, two tackles for loss, one pass knockdown and one fumble recovery. He played 11 games in 2022 earning eight sacks – including three in a dominant performance in Week 4. He also tallied 19 defensive tackles, four tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Lanier II played 10 games in his rookie CFL season, registering 13 defensive tackles and one sack.

Prior to the Roughriders, he spent five seasons in the NFL, initially signing with the Washington Commanders in 2016. He went onto play 15 career games with Washington, making ten tackles, five sacks, five tackles for a loss, six passes defended, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. In 2018, Lanier II signed with the Los Angeles Chargers where he stayed for two seasons. The 29-year-old also spent portions of 2020 with the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints.

Collegiately, Lanier II played for the Alabama A&M Bulldogs. As a senior in 2015, he made 29 tackles, six tackles for a loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, four quarterback hurries and one pass break-up over eight games. As a junior, he was second on the team in tackles with 54 while adding 18 tackles for loss, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick.

Lanier II will now be a part of a new defensive scheme under Mace, who was hired after two years as the defensive coordinator with the Toronto Argonauts and led a defence that finished last season first in sacks with 68.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders also announced on Tuesday that they have signed American linebacker Zakoby McClain.

McClain (6’0-230) signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent after the 2022 NFL Draft after an exceptional collegiate career at Auburn (2018-21). In 2019, his 100-yard pick-6 helped him place third in the SEC for interception return yards, while his three forced fumbles ranked second in the conference

NBA Preview: Chicago Bulls (22-26) at Charlotte Hornets (10-35)

0

It has been a disjointed season for the Charlotte Hornets, and there are few signs of it getting better.

The failures have turned to frustrations, but there’s a chance for a small accomplishment Wednesday night when the Hornets host the Chicago Bulls.

The Hornets will be aiming for their fourth victory of January. That doesn’t seem like much; but, after a one-win December, perhaps it would be a source of progress.

The Bulls lost 118-107 on Tuesday night at home, so they’ll try to recover from a horrid second half in which they were outscored 65-44.

The Hornets have dropped four games in a row. This marks the final game of a four-game homestand, with lopsided defeats to Houston, Utah and New York.

Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said there are no easy solutions.

Hornets point guard LaMelo Ball has missed the past two games with ankle soreness. Cody Martin filled in for some of the point guard duties, producing 14 points and eight assists Monday night against the Knicks.

Perhaps the angst was shown when the Hornets withered in the third quarter of that game. Clifford was ejected for expressing his outrage over a non-call on a sequence where he felt a Charlotte player was fouled. He said it didn’t do any good to take that route.

Amid the Hornets’ misery, there have been a couple of bright spots. P.J. Washington matched his career-high point total with 43 on Saturday against Utah and rookie Brandon Miller recorded 29 points to equal his career best Monday.

It seems unlikely that the Bulls will have guard Dalen Terry available for the game in Charlotte, though Chicago coach Billy Donovan said the injury suffered Tuesday night is listed as a sprained ankle for now.

That could make it more troublesome for Chicago’s injury-riddled forward position because Patrick Williams is out for at least two weeks with a foot injury. Terry was expected to help, along with rookie Julian Phillips and Alex Caruso.

Chicago and Charlotte played back-to-back games earlier this month, with the Bulls winning both times. A 104-91 home victory Jan. 5 was followed two nights later by a 119-112 overtime decision in Charlotte.

Coby White, a North Carolinian, was the leading scorer for Chicago in both of those games; he scored 22 and 27 points.

Terry Rozier had 39 points in the Charlotte home game vs. the Bulls, but he has since been traded to the Miami Heat.

Beginning with those two results against the Hornets, the Bulls are 7-5 in their last dozen games.
