The New York Yankees have bolstered their roster by claiming infielder Braden Shewmake off waivers from the Kansas City Royals and right-handed pitcher Owen White from the Cincinnati Reds.

Braden Shewmake: Shewmake, 27, batted .125 (8-for-64) with four runs, two doubles, one home run, four RBIs, one walk, and five stolen bases in 29 games with the Chicago White Sox in 2024. He played defensively at shortstop (11 games/8 starts), third base (8 games/7 starts), and second base (6 starts). In Triple-A Charlotte, he hit .152 (5-for-33) with two runs, one double, and two RBIs in 10 games.

Shewmake debuted in the majors in 2023 with the Atlanta Braves, appearing in two games. Over five minor league seasons with the Braves (2019, 2021-23) and White Sox (2024), he has hit .248 (336-for-1,356) with 202 runs, 75 doubles, 10 triples, 38 home runs, 176 RBIs, 104 walks, and 53 stolen bases in 356 games.

The Wylie, Texas native was selected 21st overall by Atlanta in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M University. He joined the White Sox in a trade on November 16, 2023, and was designated for assignment on January 1, 2025. He was claimed by the Royals on January 8, 2025, and later designated for assignment again on February 2, 2025.

Owen White: White, 25, made three relief appearances for the Texas Rangers in 2024, pitching 3.0 innings with nine hits, eight earned runs, one walk, and one home run allowed. Most of his season was spent with Triple-A Round Rock, where he went 2-8 with one save and a 5.64 ERA (99.0 IP, 107 H, 68 R/62 ER, 48 BB, 87 K, 14 HR) in 29 games (15 starts). Baseball America ranked him as the No. 5 prospect in the Rangers organization before the 2024 season.

White has five career major league appearances with the Rangers (2023-24), holding a 0-1 record with a 16.71 ERA (7.0 IP, 14 H, 13 R/ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 3 HR). Over four minor league seasons with the Rangers (2021-24), he has gone 19-16 with one save and a 4.37 ERA (323.1 IP, 295 H, 169 R/157 ER, 138 BB, 327 K, 39 HR) in 78 games (61 starts).

The Mount Ulla, North Carolina native was selected by the Rangers in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Carson High School. He was designated for assignment by Texas on December 20, 2024, then acquired by the Reds for cash considerations on January 6, 2025, before being designated for assignment on January 29, 2025.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated right-handed pitcher Allan Winans for assignment.
