FLUSHING, N.Y. – The New York Mets have announced the re-signing of first baseman Pete Alonso to a two-year contract, with a player opt-out after the 2025 season.

Alonso, 30, ranks third in franchise history with 226 home runs, trailing only David Wright (242) and Darryl Strawberry (252). Since his debut in 2019, only Aaron Judge has hit more home runs (232). Alonso also leads the majors with 586 RBIs since his debut.
“We’re excited to welcome Pete back to Queens,” Mets owners Steve and Alex Cohen said. “He is a homegrown talent adored by our fanbase. It should be a fun summer at Citi Field watching Pete contribute to a great lineup and chase the franchise home run record.”
Alonso has been named to the All-Star team in four of his six seasons with the Mets. In 2024, he reached the 30-home run mark for the fifth time in his career, becoming the first player in team history to achieve five seasons with 30 or more homers.
“Pete is a great Met and one of the league’s elite power threats,” Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns said. “I’m thrilled that we reached an agreement, and I’m looking forward to watching Pete help anchor our lineup.”
Alonso’s 226 home runs are the third-most in MLB history through a player’s first six seasons, trailing only Ralph Kiner (257) and Albert Pujols (250).
Last year, Alonso was one of four players in the majors to play in all 162 games. He joined Félix Millán (1975) as the only players in team history to play in every game during the year. Alonso recorded a career-high 31 doubles, 34 home runs, and 88 RBIs in 2024.
He hit a dramatic three-run, go-ahead home run in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series off Milwaukee’s Devin Williams last year, helping the Mets reach the NLCS for the first time since 2015. Alonso hit four homers, drove in 10 runs, walked a franchise-record 12 times, and had a .999 OPS in 13 postseason games.
Overall, he has posted a .249/.339/.514 slash line with an .854 OPS in 846 career games. His .514 SLG is third in franchise history, while his .854 OPS ranks fifth (minimum 3,000 plate appearances).
New York’s second-round selection in the 2016 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Florida, Alonso has won the Home Run Derby twice (2019 and 2021).
In 2019, he established a major league rookie record with 53 homers on his way to winning the Jackie Robinson National League Rookie of the Year Award.
In 2022, Alonso was tied for the major league lead with 131 RBIs, including a major league record 27 game-winning RBIs.
