Molinari, who signed an MLS NEXT Pro contract last year, participated in the first team’s preseason this year. Following an impressive camp, he played the full 90 minutes in New York City FC II’s season-opening shootout victory against Charlotte last week. The midfielder is set to officially join the first team as a homegrown player in 2027.

MLS Short-Term Agreement Rules
Under MLS rules, clubs may sign players aged 25 or younger from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate to a maximum of four Short-Term Agreements per season. Players signed under these agreements can be rostered for up to four MLS league matches in a season but are allowed to play in no more than two of these games. However, players may participate in an unlimited number of non-league games during their agreement terms.

Molinari will be available for selection in tonight’s home match against the New England Revolution, marking the celebration of 10 years since the club’s inaugural home opener against the Revs.
