NEW YORK – New York City FC announced today that Defender Tayvon Gray has signed a contract extension through 2028-29 with an option for 2029-30.

Gray signed his first professional contract with New York City FC in November 2019 after progressing through the Club’s Academy, becoming the fourth Homegrown player in New York City history and the first The Bronx native to sign with the Club.

Since joining the First Team, Gray has made 175 appearances across all competitions, recording three goals and 15 assists while becoming an important part of the ‘Boys in Blue.’ The Homegrown contributed to two of the Club’s most significant achievements, helping New York City capture its first MLS Cup in 2021 before adding the Campeones Cup in 2022.

“We’re delighted to have Tayvon continue with New York City FC,” said Sporting Director Todd Dunivant. “Tayvon has established himself as an important member of our Club and as a top right back in the League. His lockdown defensive mentality is what sets him apart, and we look forward to having Tayvon continue to play a key role with the Club moving forward.”

Gray has continued to establish himself as one of the Club’s most consistent players. The 24-year-old reached Century Club status in 2024 after making 100 appearances for New York City. The Defender currently holds the record for most appearances by a Homegrown player in Club history.

“I’m grateful and honored to continue my journey with New York City FC,” said Defender Tayvon Gray. “This is my Club, and I’m proud of everything we’ve accomplished together, but I’m hungry for more. I want to keep winning, continue helping this group, and be part of this next chapter as we look ahead to Etihad Park.”

The Defender debuted Internationally for the Jamaica Men’s National Team in 2023 and has made nine appearances across Concacaf Nations League and FIFA World Cup Qualifying action. Gray was part of Jamaica’s squad that claimed bronze at the 2023-24 Concacaf Nations League.
