New York City FC recorded an impressive 2-0 win against D.C United on Saturday night at Citi Field. The hosts took control of the game early on and that pressure continued in the 20th minute through Santiago Rodríguez’s opener. The lead would be doubled in second-half stoppage time after more brilliant play from Rodríguez teed up Julián Fernández to slam his second goal in as many games.

  • New York City FC has faced D.C. United 21 times in the regular season and the ‘Boys in Blue’ have a record of 11-7-3 (W-L-D) against the ‘Black and Red.’ New York has scored 40 goals (1.9 per match), and taken 348 shots (16.6 per match), with 137 shots on goal (6.52 per match). 
  • This was the 11th time that New York City FC has hosted D.C. United, and the ‘Boys in Blue’ have an extremely favorable record in ‘The Big Apple.’ New York has a record of 8-1-2 (W-L-D) at home, with 29 goals scored and 10 conceded.  
  • This is New York City FC’s second time at Citi Field in Queens this season. In their last match at Citi Field, New York City tied with Atlanta 1-1. DC United made its first-ever visit to Citi Field tonight. 
  • Tonight, marked the third of a five-game homestand for New York City. In two previous five-game homestands (2022 and 2023), NYC went undefeated in both, winning seven times, drawing three times, and scoring 24 goals over those 10 matches.  
  • New York has earned points in five of the last six matches, with a record of 3-1-2 (W-L-D). In those six games, New York scored eight goals. The win against D.C. also extends New York’s undefeated streak at home, which now stands at four matches, with three wins and one draw in that run, scoring seven goals and collecting two clean sheets. 
  • After conceding five goals in the first three matches of the season, New York has conceded only one goal in their last three games. 
  • This is New York’s first win when leading at halftime this season. Also, it is New York’s first win at Citi Field this season. 

PLAYER MILESTONES

  • In the last eight home matches, Midfielder Santiago Rodríguez has scored four goals and provided four assists, totaling eight goal contributions.
  • In his 100th appearance with New York City FC, Santiago Rodríguez scored his fourth goal of the season in the 20th minute to put New York City up 1-0. Rodriguez becomes the 13th player in Club history to reach the century mark, including the fourth out of the current roster (Moralez, Parks, Sands) and the second to do it this season (Sands).   
  • Forward Julián Fernández scored his second goal in as many matches, marking the first time he has recorded goals in back-to-back games with the Club.  
  • Goalkeeper Matt Freese now has two consecutive clean sheets.
