FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have acquired $300,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) from the LA Galaxy in a transaction that sends a 2026 international roster slot to Los Angeles. The roster slot is valid through Dec. 31, 2026.
The move adds to New England’s financial flexibility heading into the 2026 season, giving the club additional resources to strengthen its roster under Major League Soccer’s complex player‑acquisition rules.
GAM remains one of MLS’s most important roster‑building mechanisms, allowing clubs to reduce salary‑budget charges, sign new players, or retain key contributors. In 2026, each MLS team receives $3.28 million in annual GAM, with the option to add more through several league‑approved channels:
- Up to $3 million in eligible transfer revenue converted to GAM
- Trades with other MLS clubs
- Qualification for the CONCACAF Champions Cup
- Failure to qualify for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs
- Distribution from the 2025 third Designated Player charge
Additionally, clubs selecting the U22 Initiative Roster Construction Path may earn up to $2 million in extra GAM and gain a fourth U22 Initiative roster slot, further expanding their ability to invest in young talent.
The Galaxy’s acquisition of an international roster spot provides them with immediate roster flexibility, while the Revolution bolster their allocation funds for future signings or contract management.
