Fofana is one of three Revolution players on international duty during the March window
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana has been called up to the Mali Men’s National Team for its upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers during the March international window. Mali will face Comoros on Thursday, March 20, at 5:00 p.m. ET at Stade Municipal de Berkane in Morocco, followed by a match against the Central African Republic on Tuesday, March 25, at 12:00 p.m. ET at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
Fofana, 27, has earned 44 caps for Les Aigles, most recently featuring in two 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers last November. In his debut MLS season, Fofana has started the first three matches, showcasing a team-leading 93.1% passing accuracy and recording 18 clearances. Signed from French Ligue 2 side Amiens SC in December, Fofana previously led the league in tackles won (174) over the past four seasons, amassing nearly 250 professional appearances across nine campaigns.
In the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign, Mali sits fourth in Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Group I with a 1-2-1 record (5 points) through four matchdays. Comoros leads the group at 3-0-1 (9 points), while the Central African Republic trails just behind Mali with a 1-1-2 record (4 points) entering this window.
Fofana is one of three Revolution players competing in CAF World Cup qualifiers next week, alongside midfielder Alhassan Yusuf (Nigeria) and forward/winger Ignatius Ganago (Cameroon). The trio will join their respective national teams following the Revolution’s away match against New York City FC tonight, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Yankee Stadium.
