The Denver Nuggets are coming off a two-day break after securing back-to-back overtime victories earlier this week. Now, they turn their attention to another Western Conference powerhouse, the Minnesota Timberwolves, as they face off on Friday night in Minneapolis.

The Nuggets’ overtime wins both came on the road—127-125 against the Toronto Raptors on Monday and 144-139 against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday. Given recent history, Denver could be in for another close game against the Timberwolves.  Friday’s game is a rematch of last season’s Western Conference semifinals, which Minnesota won in seven games. The Timberwolves took the first two games, lost the next three, and won the final two to advance to the Western Conference finals.

Both teams made significant offseason moves. The Timberwolves traded longtime fan favorite Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. The Nuggets, meanwhile, let Kentavious Caldwell-Pope depart via free agency and added veteran Russell Westbrook to bring leadership on and off the court.

Despite the new faces, both teams aim for the same goals as last season—finishing near the top of the conference and making deep playoff runs, potentially setting up another postseason showdown.  Nikola Jokic leads the Nuggets, averaging a triple-double with 31.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 9.3 assists through the first four games. Jamal Murray follows with 18.8 points, and Aaron Gordon adds 15.5 points.

Anthony Edwards is the standout for the Timberwolves, averaging 30 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. His 3-point shooting has improved significantly to 41.5 percent, up from 35.7 percent last season. Julius Randle adds 23.3 points and 7.5 rebounds, while Naz Reid averages 13.8 points and 7.5 rebounds. Rudy Gobert is close to a double-double with 9.5 points and a team-high 11.3 boards.

Minnesota is looking to bounce back from a 120-114 loss to the visiting Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night. Edwards emphasized the need for him and his teammates to focus more on defense against the Nuggets and other opponents.

This matchup promises to be another thrilling contest between two top-tier teams.
