The Washington Wizards are aiming to end a nine-game losing streak when they face the visiting Boston Celtics in an NBA Cup game on Friday night.

Washington’s losing streak began after they evened their record at 2-2 with two consecutive wins. Eight of their nine losses have been by double digits.

The Wizards suffered a 124-104 home defeat to Detroit on Sunday, followed by a 134-106 loss to New York on Monday, extending their losing streak to nine games. They have allowed at least 120 points in each of their last four games.

Following Monday’s loss, Washington coach Brian Keefe expressed frustration with the team’s recent effort. Forward Corey Kispert noted that the Wizards’ competitive level has not been where it needs to be.

Washington is 0-1 in NBA Cup play this season, while Boston improved to 1-1 by defeating Cleveland 120-117 on Tuesday, handing the Cavaliers their first loss after a 15-0 start.

Boston’s 38-year-old center Al Horford delivered a standout performance on Tuesday, scoring a season-high 20 points, along with seven rebounds and three blocked shots. He made four three-pointers and had two critical blocks late in the game as Cleveland attempted a comeback after trailing by 21 points.

Jayson Tatum added 33 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals for the Celtics.

Boston enters Friday’s game on a three-game winning streak, having won five of their last six. The Celtics are 7-1 in road games this season, while Washington is 1-5 at home.

Friday’s game will be the second meeting between the teams this season. Boston won the first matchup 122-102 on October 24, with Jaylen Brown scoring a game-high 27 points, extending Boston’s winning streak against Washington to five games.
