NASCAR Preview: 2024 Toyota/Save Mart 350

Has the time come for Martin Truex Jr. to finally win a race in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series? Judging by the 2024 Sonoma odds, he’s one of the top candidates along with Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, and others.

The reason why Truex is expected to do well in California’s Wine Country is that this is one of his most favorite races, which he’s won four times already.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

Place: Sonoma Raceway in Sonoma, California

Date: Sunday, June 9, 2024

How to Watch: FOX

Of all the active drivers on the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series roster, Martin Truex Jr. is the most successful driver when it comes to racing at the Sonoma Raceway.

He won the event now known as the Toyota/Save Mart 350 on four occasions. If he wins on June 9, he’s going to equal the record of Jeff Gordon who won his fifth Sonoma NASCAR race in 2006.

So, can Truex win? Well, many motorsports’ fans believe it’s really time for him to get to the top of the podium. This guy is still without a single win in 2024. In fact, he hasn’t won a race since July last year. Speaking of last season, he won three races in 2023, one of which is the one at Sonoma.

Denny Hamlin has been in fantastic form over the last couple of weeks. It all started with a win in Dover in late April, which happened after two events in which he finished outside the top 30.

After Dover, he finished in the top 5 in each of the following four races. However, he didn’t win any of those four. This only means that he’s eager to start winning again. Unfortunately, the race at Sonoma doesn’t look like a very good opportunity for that.

The thing is that he doesn’t seem to love racing in North California. The evidence of this is that in the previous race at Sonoma Raceway, he finished in 36th spot. A year before, he finished in 31st place. In fact, his best record in Sonoma is 2nd place in the 2016 race. It’s a similar story when it comes to Kyle Larson. He’s in decent form, but he doesn’t have great memories from Sonoma. He did win it in 2021, but that’s when the Sonoma race was held on a 2.52-mile layout. This was the case on only two occasions, while most other Sonoma races in the 21st century were on a 1.99 layout. The 2024 race uses this layout as well.
