Kyle Larson, who finished second last season, is now sitting at the top of the Drivers’ Standings. He ended up in the No. 1 spot after his victory at the Bank of America Roval 400 last Sunday. It was his 6th win of 2024, and he’s favored to add another one to his tally on October 20.

The 2024 South Point 400 marks the beginning of the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs. Only four races remain in 2024, so it’s no surprise that the intensity is sky-high. Kyle Larson is in a good situation right now, with 20 points more than second-placed Christopher Bell.

Of course, he wouldn’t mind adding more points with another win. He’s got the motivation, as well as the confidence needed to win this race. This goes especially given that he was the driver who won the South Point 400 last year.

Christopher Bell is trailing Larson by 20 points, but that’s actually an improvement. He finished second last weekend, which was his best performance since winning the race in New Hampshire in June.

Tyler Reddick finished 11th at the Bank of America Roval 400, but he’s still high in the rankings. He’s 3rd right now, meaning that with a win on October 20, he could get to the top.

William Byron’s third-place finish last Sunday helped him close in on the leaders – he’s currently in the No. 4 position with 23 points fewer than Larson.

What’s interesting is that none of those guys has ever won the South Point 400. In fact, in addition to Larson, there are only two other Top 8 drivers who’ve done it before. One of those is Denny Hamlin, who’s +875 favorite to win on Sunday. The other one is Joey Logano, whose odds are +1400.

Joey Logano is one of the South Point 400 underdogs, which we think shouldn’t be the case. Logano is 8th in the standings with one win already in the Playoffs. It happened in the first round, but since then, he finished outside the podium each time.

In fact, his best finish since the first round of the Playoffs was the No. 8 position last weekend in North Carolina. If he wants to get to the Top 4, he needs to do better in the following three races. The good news is that a win in Vegas could be enough for him to clinch a spot in the next round.
