NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Preview: Black’s Tire 200

Date: Friday, April 18, 2025
Location: Rockingham Speedway, Rockingham, North Carolina
Track: 0.94-mile oval
Race Distance: 200 laps / 188 miles
Broadcast: FS1

Race Overview

The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series returns to Rockingham Speedway for the first time since 2013, marking a highly anticipated revival of racing at “The Rock.” This event serves as the final leg of the 2025 Triple Truck Challenge, where Daniel Hemric and Chandler Smith are competing for a $150,000 bonus if either wins at Rockingham.

The track’s abrasive surface and high tire wear will challenge drivers to manage their equipment effectively over long runs. The stage cautions will fall on laps 45 and 90, with the checkered flag waving at lap 200.

Track History & Significance

Rockingham Speedway has a rich NASCAR legacy, hosting Cup Series races from 1965 to 2004 and Truck Series events in 2012 and 2013. The track was remeasured at 0.94 miles with 22-25 degrees of banking, and underwent a $9 million renovation, including repaving in 2022.

Past Truck Series winners at Rockingham include Kasey Kahne (2012) and Kyle Larson (2013). Only four drivers in the current field have prior Truck Series experience at Rockingham: Matt Crafton, Norm Benning, Grant Enfinger, and Parker Kligerman.

Drivers to Watch

Corey Heim

  • Current Truck Series points leader with 270 points.
  • The only repeat winner this season, with two victories.
  • Has led laps in all six races this year.

Chandler Smith

  • Won at Bristol last week, securing a Triple Truck Challenge bonus.
  • The only driver with top-10 finishes in all six races this season.
  • Chasing Ron Hornaday Jr.’s record of 19 consecutive top-10 finishes.

Daniel Hemric

  • Claimed the Martinsville Triple Truck Challenge bonus.
  • Competing for the $150,000 prize if he wins at Rockingham.
  • Has four top-five finishes this season.

Rajah Caruth

  • Led 85 laps at Bristol, more than his previous 55 career starts combined.
  • Has 110 laps led in 2025 but is still searching for his first top-five finish.

Race Strategy & Key Factors

Tire Management

Rockingham’s abrasive surface will lead to significant tire wear, making long-run speed and pit strategy crucial. Teams will need to balance aggressive early racing with conserving tires for the final laps.

Track Position & Restarts

With limited banking, maintaining track position will be vital. Drivers who can capitalize on restarts and stay up front will have the best chance at victory.

Pit Strategy & Fuel Management

The 188-mile distance will require multiple pit stops, and teams must decide whether to short-pit for fresh tires or stretch fuel runs to gain track position.
