Sporting Kansas City’s resurgence continued on Saturday with a 1-0 win over San Jose, Sporting’s third win in its last four games (L1) beginning with the victory over the Galaxy on August 6. Sporting had recorded only three wins in its previous 19 league games (W5 L11) dating back to the start of April.
Dejan Joveljic has contributed to a goal in eight consecutive home matches (9 goals, 3 assists), tied with Hany Mukhtar for the longest streak in MLS this season. Including playoffs, there have only been four longer such streaks in Galaxy history (Carlos Ruiz, Landon Donovan twice, Robbie Keane).
Sporting Kansas City’s 1-0 win over San Jose on Saturday was its first clean sheet since May 7, ending a run of 16 straight games conceding at least once. That run was just two shy of the club’s longest run without a clean sheet in the regular season, 18, done twice, most recently in 2002-03.
