MLS Preview: Colorado Rapids (8-12-8) at D.C. United (7-17-4)

Colorado recorded a 2-1 away win the last time the sides met, in February 2020, to end a nine-match winless run against D.C. in MLS play. That win was one of only three non-shootout road wins for the Rapids in 23 visits to D.C., also picking up one-goal wins in 1999 and 2010.

D.C. United earned a 2-1 over New York City Football Club on Wednesday, ending a four-game losing streak and a six-game winless streak. D.C. finished the match with six shots, its fewest in a match while also scoring multiple goals since a 2-1 win over Orlando in March 2019.

The Rapids have conceded 10 goals in their last two away matches, a 6-0 loss at Philadelphia and a 4-1 defeat at Nashville. Colorado has allowed goals in a span of two road matches just once, allowing 11 goals in September 2014 visits to the Galaxy (0-6) and Real Salt Lake (1-5).

Ola Kamara scored the 83rd goal of his MLS career, scoring D.C. United’s opener in the club’s win over New York City Football Club on Wednesday. Since his debut season in 2016, the only other MLS players with more than 70 regular season goals are Josef Martinez (96) and Bradley Wright-Phillips (72).

Hany Mukhtar’s hat-trick against the Rapids on Wednesday was the fifth hat-trick scored against Colorado since the start of the 2019 season, more than any other team in MLS in that time.
