First pitch: 7:40 p.m. ET
TV: Twins.TV / DSN (and streaming options)
Both clubs sit in the lower half of the AL Central (Twins third, Tigers fourth) and are playing out the season. This is the start of a three-game series.
Starting Pitchers
Tigers: RHP Jackson Jobe (1-1, 3.93 ERA, 18.1 IP, 15 SO, 8 BB, 1.42 WHIP). Limited major-league sample after recovering from prior injury; solid ERA in a small body of work but elevated WHIP and walk rate. Making one of his early starts of the season.
Twins: RHP Taj Bradley (9-6, 3.97 ERA, 147.1 IP, 169 SO, 63 BB, 1.28 WHIP). More established with strong strikeout totals. ERA similar to Jobe’s but in a much larger sample; capable of missing bats at home.
Bradley has the clear edge in experience and workload; Jobe brings upside but remains a higher-variance option in limited innings.
Current Rosters & Key Players
Twins core (active): Josh Bell (DH, consistent production and power), Royce Lewis and other infield contributors, outfield pieces around the absences, and supporting hitters. Team AVG around .246 with solid power (158 HR). Speed element present.
Tigers core (active): Kevin McGonigle (SS, strong average), Dillon Dingler (C, power/RBI leader), Colt Keith, and other contributors. Offense ranks mid-pack in some categories but has been quiet recently. Detroit’s pitching staff has been a relative strength (team ERA 3.58).
Injury Reports
Tigers: Riley Greene (LF, hamstring, 10-day IL), Kerry Carpenter (RF, heel/foot, 10-day), Matt Vierling (adductor), Burch Smith (shoulder, 60-day), Brant Hurter, Wenceel Pérez, plus longer-term absences including Jack Flaherty, Justin Verlander, and others. Outfield depth is significantly impacted.
Twins: Byron Buxton (CF, hip, 10-day IL), Austin Martin (RF, hamstring, 10-day), Joe Ryan (glute/lower body, 15-day), plus several starting pitchers on longer IL (Mike Paredes, Mick Abel, and others). Center field and rotation depth affected; Buxton’s absence is notable.
Weather Forecast (Target Field)
Warm late-summer conditions: temperatures around 84–86°F at first pitch (cooling modestly later), sunny to mostly clear skies, light winds, and very low precipitation chance. The open-air park can play somewhat hitter-friendly in warmer weather with any favorable breeze.
Recent Team Forms
Tigers: Rough stretch overall (reports of 2-8 in last 10 in some summaries); mixed recent results including a series vs. the Dodgers (losses and a tight win). Road record 29-38. Offense has been inconsistent.
Twins: Also struggling recently (around 3-7 in last 10 in some reports); mixed home results including a series vs. the White Sox. Home record 36-33 provides some comfort. Team ERA elevated overall (4.65).
Series History (2026)
Competitive AL Central matchup. Earlier meetings this season included a Detroit blowout win (11-0 in one June game) and other split results. Overall H2H has been relatively even, with both clubs capable of high-scoring or low-scoring outcomes depending on pitching.
Key Player vs. Player Matchups
Bradley vs. Tigers hitters: Bradley’s strikeout ability tests Detroit’s contact-oriented pieces. Watch McGonigle and Dingler against his mix; power threats must handle the elevated fastball and secondary pitches.
Jobe vs. Twins hitters: Limited sample makes projections tougher. Bell and any available power bats pose threats if Jobe’s command wavers (elevated WHIP). Twins’ ability to put the ball in play could pressure the young arm.
Other notes: Both teams missing key outfielders (Greene, Buxton, etc.), so secondary contributors and depth players will be important. Target Field dimensions can reward gap power.
Betting Trends
Twins are modest home favorites despite recent form issues. Detroit’s stronger team ERA is a counterpoint, but road struggles and missing outfielders weigh against them. Totals have varied in prior H2H; warmer weather leans slightly toward the over in some models.
