Phillips, 27, brings MLB experience after appearing in eight games (seven starts) with the Phillies during the 2024 season. He made his major league debut on July 7 against Atlanta, delivering an impressive 4.0-inning relief outing, allowing one run while striking out seven, including the first four batters faced. Phillips secured his first career win in his starting debut on July 13 against the Athletics. Across his eight appearances, Phillips posted a 4-1 record with a 6.87 ERA (28 earned runs in 36.2 innings), recording 28 strikeouts against seven walks.

At the Triple-A level with Lehigh Valley last season, Phillips made 20 starts, finishing with an 8-5 record and a 5.08 ERA (67 earned runs across 118.2 innings). He limited opposing hitters to 117 hits, issued 49 walks, and struck out 100 batters. Notably, Phillips earned back-to-back complete-game victories on May 15 at Norfolk and May 21 at Rochester during doubleheader contests, demonstrating his endurance and poise on the mound.

Originally selected by the Texas Rangers in the 16th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Bishop Eustace Preparatory School (Lumberton, N.J.), Phillips spent seven seasons within the Rangers’ organization before being claimed off waivers by Philadelphia on July 24, 2021. His professional journey reflects resilience and versatility, attributes the Marlins aim to harness as they bolster their pitching depth for the season ahead.
