Having won five of its last six games, including two last week, the Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team returns home to host Ohio on Tuesday night, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. The Huskies are coming off an 86-78 victory at Bowling Green on Saturday (Feb. 4), which stretched NIU’s road win streak to four games, the longest such streak for the program since winning seven-straight road contests in 2002-03. NIU’s six overall road wins this year is tied with Kent State for the most in the Mid-American Conference.
David Coit (Columbus, N.J.) scored a team-best 21 points in the victory over the Falcons, Coit has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 12 games and is tied for eighth in the MAC in scoring in league play at 18.2 points per game. Zarique Nutter (Newark, N.J.) had 18 points against Bowling Green, going 8-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Oluwasegun Durosinmi (Lagos, Nigeria) set a new career-high with 10 points on Saturday. Durosinmi also had a pair of blocks and is currently averaging 1.1 blocks per contest, which ranks fifth in the MAC.
At 6-4 in conference play, NIU is currently fifth in the MAC standings, one game behind Ball State in fourth and two games behind Kent State and Toledo who are tied for second at 8-2.
Ohio comes to DeKalb with a 12-11 overall record and a 4-6 mark in league play after topping Miami, 78-68, in Athens last time out (Feb. 4). Four players score in double figures for Ohio, led by Dwight Wilson at 16.0 points and a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game, third-most in the MAC. Jaylin Hunter adds 11.5 points per contest, AJ Brown is averaging 10.6 points per game and Miles Brown is scoring 10.5 points per contest.
The home team has won the last six games between NIU and Ohio, including four-straight NIU wins in DeKalb. The last road win in the series was a 72-66 overtime victory for the Huskies in Athens on Jan. 5, 2019.
Following Tuesday’s game, NIU will remain at home to host Western Michigan on Saturday, Feb. 11. Game time against the Broncos is slated for 3 p.m.
