LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor and designated outfielder Jason Heyward for assignment.
Taylor, 33, was placed on the injured list on July 25 with a right groin strain. He made five rehab appearances between Rancho Cucamonga and Oklahoma City, going 6-for-18 with two doubles and four RBI. He has appeared in 64 games this season, batting .167 with three homers and 15 RBI. He has been in the Major Leagues parts of 11 seasons with Seattle (2014-16) and Los Angeles-NL (2016-24) hitting .249 with 107 homers and 423 RBI in 1,042 games. He was acquired by the Dodgers on June 19, 2016 from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for right-handed pitcher Zach Lee.
Heyward, 35, appeared in 63 games for the Dodgers this season, hitting .208 with six homers and 28 RBI. He spent the last two seasons with the Dodgers, slashing .249/.322/.446 with 21 homers and 68 RBI. The four-time gold gloves has been in the Major Leagues parts of 15 seasons with Atlanta (2010-14), St. Louis (2015), Chicago-NL (2016-22) and Los Angeles (2023-24), accumulating a 41.8 bWAR with 180 homers and 709 RBI in 1,766 games. He was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the first round (14th overall) of the 2007 First Year Player Draft out of Henry County High School.
