LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the acquisition of outfielder Esteury Ruiz from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for right-handed pitcher Carlos Duran. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers have transferred right-handed pitcher Kyle Hurt to the 60-day injured list.

Ruiz, 26, is set to join Triple-A Oklahoma City following the trade. In 2024, Ruiz appeared in 29 games for the Athletics, batting .200 with two home runs and five stolen bases. He had an outstanding rookie campaign in 2023, leading the league with 67 stolen bases and hitting .254 with 24 doubles and five home runs. Ruiz was designated for assignment on March 30 and originally signed by the Kansas City Royals on July 3, 2015, out of Azua, Dominican Republic.

Duran, 23, demonstrated promise at Triple-A Oklahoma City with a 2.08 ERA and eight strikeouts over 4.1 innings pitched this season. Across his minor league career, he holds a 4-20 record with a 4.06 ERA in 82 games. Duran was signed by the Dodgers as an international free agent on March 8, 2018.

The Dodgers hope Ruiz’s speed and athleticism will add depth to their organization as they continue to strengthen their roster.
