Kansas City Royals Invite 23 Players to Major League Spring Training

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have invited 23 players to Major League Spring Training in Surprise, Arizona. Among the invitees are 10 pitchers, six catchers, five infielders, and two outfielders.

Invitees Originally Signed or Drafted by Kansas City:

  • Pitchers: Austin Cox (LHP), Tyson Guerrero (LHP), Ben Kudrna (RHP), Anthony Simonelli (RHP), Steven Zobac (RHP)
  • Catchers: Kyle Hayes, Omar Hernández, Carter Jensen, Blake Mitchell, Luca Tresh
  • Infielders: Jac Caglianone, Tyler Tolbert, Javier Vaz
  • Outfielders: Gavin Cross, John Rave

Returning Invitees for 2025:

  • Pitchers: Chandler Champlain (RHP), Andrew Hoffmann (RHP), Beck Way (RHP)
  • Catcher: Brian O’Keefe
  • Infielder: Cam Devanney

New Signings and Additions:

  • Cavan Biggio: Super utility player signed with Kansas City on Sunday, bringing six Major League seasons of experience. He debuted with Toronto in 2019 and played for the Dodgers and Braves in 2024. He is the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio.
  • Taylor Clarke: Right-handed pitcher who returns to the Royals after spending 2024 in the Brewers organization. Clarke previously pitched for Kansas City from 2022-23.
  • Junior Fernández: Right-handed pitcher joining the Royals following stints with St. Louis (2019-22) and Pittsburgh (2022). He spent last season in Japan with the Chiba Lotte Marines.

First-Time Invitees to Major League Spring Training:

  • Guerrero, Hoffmann, Kudrna, Simonelli, Zobac, Hayes, Hernández, Mitchell, Caglianone, Vaz, and Cross (all but Hoffmann being homegrown).

Kansas City’s 63-man Spring Training roster is attached. The first workout for Royals pitchers and catchers is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12. The first full squad workout is set for Monday, February 17.
