In its latest disciplinary action, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has imposed a three-month suspension on German player Mina Hodzic for violating the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP) regulations. The enforcement stems from Hodzic’s association with Jordi Marse-Vidri, a former player currently serving a 15-year suspension for severe integrity breaches in tennis.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Prohibited Associations
The penalty was issued under the TACP’s “prohibited association” clause, which strictly forbids players, staff, and competitors from interacting with individuals sanctioned under anti-corruption regulations. According to the ITIA’s public statement, Hodzic interacted with Marse-Vidri during an event in Barcelona in October 2024, despite warnings from the agency to cease contact. Marse-Vidri had reportedly offered coaching services to Hodzic.
Marse-Vidri was banned from tennis following his involvement in one of the sport’s most significant match-fixing cases, where six players orchestrated fixed games to profit from betting schemes. He was handed a 15-year suspension in 2022, along with a $15,000 fine, $5,000 of which was suspended.
Suspension Details for Hodzic
As a result of the breach, Hodzic will be barred from all professional tennis competitions until June 5, 2025, and is required to pay a $1,000 fine. Compliance with suspension rules, including abstaining from participation in events, is mandatory for reinstatement after the suspension period. During this time, Hodzic cannot compete in tournaments sanctioned by international tennis organizations such as the ITF, WTA, USTA, and ITIA.
Match-Fixing Scandal Overview
Marse-Vidri was one of six individuals convicted for match-fixing activities, alongside Marc Fornell Mestres, Carlos Ortega, Jaime Ortega, Marcos Torralbo, and Pedro Bernabe Franco. These players were found guilty of manipulating match outcomes to facilitate fraudulent sports betting wins. The ITIA described Marse-Vidri’s actions as part of one of the most egregious integrity violations in tennis.
Limited Details on Relationship
While the ITIA disclosed the nature of the association, it did not elaborate further on whether Marse-Vidri attempted to influence Hodzic to participate in unethical practices. This case underscores the ITIA’s unwavering stance on enforcing its anti-corruption regulations to maintain the integrity of professional tennis.
