iGaming Ontario Reports Steady Growth as Market Matures in Year Three

iGaming Ontario’s open competitive market continued to demonstrate impressive growth in its third year, recording $82.7 billion in wagers and $3.2 billion in gross gaming revenue, underscoring the success of the province’s regulated environment.

“These results highlight Ontario as a thriving hub for iGaming, featuring an exceptional roster of operators and a world-class selection of games,” said Heidi Reinhart, Chair of the Board of Directors. “With 49 operators managing 84 gaming sites, Ontario’s regulated market continues to evolve, providing a safer space for players to enjoy.”

Key Metrics for 2024-25:

  • Total Wagers: $82.7 billion, a 31% increase over 2023-24 (excluding promotional wagers such as bonuses).
  • Gross Gaming Revenue: $3.2 billion, a 32% increase over 2023-24, reflecting cash wagers, including rake fees, tournament fees, and other fees, while excluding operating costs or other liabilities.

Driving Success: Player Choice in Ontario

Ontario’s competitive and open regulated market is a boon for players, offering unprecedented choice and protections unavailable in unregulated environments.

According to the third annual IPSOS study commissioned by iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO):

  • 83.7% of Ontarians continue to opt for regulated gaming sites.
  • However, 20.2% of those regulated site players still engage with unregulated markets, highlighting the need for ongoing efforts to eliminate grey market activity.

With more than 80 regulated sites and thousands of games available, Ontario’s regulated market offers diversity and mandatory safeguards, creating a safer and more enjoyable experience for players.

Breakdown by Gaming Category:

  • Casino Wagers: $69.6 billion (+34% YoY) Gaming Revenue: $2.4 billion (+36% YoY)
    Includes slots, live and computer-based table games, and peer-to-peer bingo.
  • Betting Wagers: $11.4 billion (+17% YoY) Gaming Revenue: $724 million (+23% YoY)
    Covers sports, esports, proposition/novelty bets, and exchange betting.
  • Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Poker Wagers: $1.7 billion (+2% YoY) Gaming Revenue: $66 million (unchanged YoY).
