Montero, 34, has been a key contributor to the Astros over the past five seasons (2021-25). During his tenure with Houston, he appeared in 187 games, posting a 3.82 ERA (78 earned runs across 184.0 innings) with 185 strikeouts, a .238 opponent batting average, and a 1.298 WHIP. He played a significant role in the Astros’ 2022 World Series Championship run, compiling a 2.51 ERA (4 earned runs over 14.1 innings) with 18 strikeouts and a .143 opponent batting average in 15 postseason appearances.

To fill Montero’s spot on the active roster, the Astros will recall left-handed pitcher Bennett Sousa from Triple-A Sugar Land. Sousa, however, will not be available to pitch for the team in tonight’s game.
