Veteran Outfielder Signs a One-Year Deal
HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have re-signed veteran outfielder Ben Gamel to a one-year Major League contract, announced today by General Manager Dana Brown. Additional terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Gamel, 32, joined the Astros in 2024 after being claimed off waivers from the Mets on August 20. In his debut with Houston, he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs in a 6-0 win against Baltimore on August 22. Over 20 games with the Astros, Gamel posted a .259 batting average (15-for-58) with 13 runs, three doubles, one home run, four RBIs, and 11 walks, resulting in a .739 OPS. Unfortunately, he missed the last 13 games of the 2024 regular season due to a left fibula fracture sustained on September 14 against the Angels in Anaheim.
A seasoned player, Gamel has nine Major League seasons under his belt, having played for the New York Yankees (2016), Seattle Mariners (2016-18), Milwaukee Brewers (2019-20), Cleveland Guardians (2021), Pittsburgh Pirates (2021-22), San Diego Padres (2023), New York Mets (2024), and Houston Astros (2024-25). His career statistics include a .252 batting average (516-for-2,046) with 112 doubles, 15 triples, 41 home runs, 204 RBIs, and a .716 OPS.
With Gamel’s signing, the Astros’ 40-man roster is now full.
