Astros acquire Trammell from Yankees

HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Astros have acquired outfielder Taylor Trammell from the New York Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Dana Brown.

Trammell, 27, split his 2024 season between the Dodgers and Yankees organizations, combining to play in 10 Major League games, five each for the two franchises. He spent the majority of his year at Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees system, appearing in 106 games, while hitting .256 (86×336) with 20 doubles, 18 homers, 63 RBI, a .381 OBP and an .869 OPS.

The left-handed hitting outfielder has appeared in 126 career Major league games for the Mariners (2021-23), Dodgers (2024) and Yankees (2024) in his career. He’s a former first-round pick, having been selected with the 35th overall selection by the Reds in the 2016 draft.

TODAY’S ADDITIONAL TRANSACTIONS

The Astros outrighted two players off their 40-man roster: RHP Oliver Ortega and RHP José Urquidy. Both players cleared waivers and are now free agents.

OF Trey CabbageRHP Seth Martinez and RHP Penn Murfee were claimed off waivers by other clubs, with Cabbage going to Pittsburgh, Martinez to Arizona, and Murfee to Chicago (AL).

Five players that had been on the 60-day Injured List at the end of the season have been returned to the 40-man roster: RHP J.P. FranceRHP Luis GarciaRHP Cristian JavierRHP Lance McCullers Jr. and LHP Bennett Sousa.

After today’s moves, the Astros now have 40 players on their 40-man roster.
