Formula 1 Preview: 2024 British Grand Prix

The 2024 British Grand Prix marks the twelfth event on the F1 calendar, and it promises to be an exciting affair, especially following the dramatic events of the Austrian GP.

As a reminder, defending champ Max Verstappen had a collision with Lando Norris last weekend, so both of them finished outside the podium. It’s needless to say both will do their utmost to ensure the same doesn’t happen on July 7.

Max Verstappen is the top favorite for the British GP despite his setback in Austria. He finished 5th in the previous race due to a collision with Lando Norris, but before that, he was in the lead. So, if it weren’t for the clash, he would’ve won it.

Verstappen’s form this season has been nothing short of amazing, with seven wins out of eleven races. His performance in Austria was a misstep, largely due to unfortunate circumstances. However, that wasn’t the first time that he had a crash or problems with his car, which explains why his British GP odds aren’t as short as you’d imagine.

Another reason is that Silverstone Circuit is a difficult track, famous for its high-speed corners. This, however, shouldn’t pose too much of a problem for Verstappen, whose RB20 car was designed to excel on such circuits.

Lando Norris, who was involved in the collision with Verstappen in Austria, will be eager to put that behind him and perform well at his home Grand Prix. The McLaren driver has shown flashes of brilliance this season, and a strong result at Silverstone could be just what he needs to reinvigorate his campaign.

His British GP odds are +250, which makes him the No. 2 favorite. No surprise there, as he’s second in the F1 Drivers’ Championship standing. Furthermore, this coming Sunday, he’ll be practically racing on home turf. The British driver is still without a win on this track, but we did see him second last year.

Speaking of British drivers, the Brit with the best record at Silverstone is Lewis Hamilton. Actually, he’s the all-time record holder for most British GP wins with eight.

Lewis Hamilton won the British GP on eight occasions, the most recent of which was in 2021. A year later, he finished in third place, the same as in last year’s race.

His British GP odds of +2000 suggest that he’s not very likely to pull it off again. The reason is that this hasn’t been his best season. In fact, it’s far from it. He’s eight in the standings, with just one podium finish in 2024. Silverstone’s fast and flowing nature suits Verstappen’s aggressive driving style perfectly. Despite the competitive field, Verstappen’s consistency and skill give him the edge. We expect him to reclaim his winning form and add another victory to his impressive 2024 season tally.
