Detroit Tigers acquire RHP Eric Silva from San Francisco Giants in exchange for OF Mark Canha

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers announced that they have acquired righthanded pitcher Eric Silva from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for outfielder Mark Canha.

Silva, 21, has made 28 relief appearances with Double A Richmond this season, going 4-2 with two saves, a 4.35 ERA (41.1IP/20ER) and 51 strikeouts. He has limited opponents to a .199 batting average and posted a 1.16 WHIP. Among Eastern League pitchers with at least 40.0 innings this season, he ranks 12th with 29.3% strikeout rate and 14th with a .199 opponent batting average.

Originally drafted by the Giants in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of JSerra Catholic High School (CA), he has made 82 appearances, including 42 starts, over four professional seasons, compiling a 9-17 record with two saves, a 5.72 ERA (209.1IP/133ER) and 238 strikeouts. Silva is ranked by Baseball America as San Francisco’s No. 25 prospect.

Canha, 35, has played in 93 games with the Tigers this season, batting .231/.337/.350 with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 38 RBI in 93 games.
