Detroit Casinos Report $109.6 Million in December 2024 Revenue, Totaling $1.29 Billion for the Year

The three Detroit casinos reported an impressive $109.6 million in aggregate revenue for December 2024. Of this amount, table games and slots generated $109.3 million, while retail sports betting contributed $276,509.

Monthly Table Games, Slot Revenue, and Taxes

The revenue from table games and slots decreased by 1.9% compared to December 2023 but saw a 2.7% increase from November 2024. Overall, table games and slots revenue for the year increased by 4.9% compared to the previous year.

  • MotorCity: Down by 4.8% to $33.0 million

In December 2024, the three casinos paid $8.9 million in gaming taxes to the State of Michigan, down slightly from $9.0 million the previous year. Additionally, they submitted $13.5 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit.

For the fourth quarter of 2024, aggregate revenue for all three Detroit casinos increased by 18.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, MGM, MotorCity, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown saw revenue increases of 26.4%, 15.9%, and 8.5%, respectively. The casinos paid $25.9 million in gaming taxes to the state in the fourth quarter of 2024, up from $21.8 million the previous year.

Monthly Retail Sports Betting Revenue and Taxes

In December, the three Detroit casinos reported a total retail sports betting handle of $19.77 million and gross receipts of $279,649. Retail sports betting adjusted gross receipts were down by 94.2% compared to December 2023 and 85.6% compared to November 2024.

In 2024, the three Detroit casinos paid the state $103.9 million in wagering taxes for slots and table games and $372,729 in wagering taxes for retail sports betting, compared to $99.0 million and $528,314, respectively, in 2023.

Fantasy Contests

In November, fantasy contest operators reported total adjusted revenues of $1.2 million and paid $100,486 in taxes. From January through November, fantasy contest operators reported $8.5 million in aggregate adjusted revenues and paid $713,587 in taxes.
