Alexander, 35, brings a wealth of experience from his 10-year Major League career, having played for four different organizations: Kansas City (2015-17), Los Angeles-NL (2018-2021), San Francisco (2022-23), and Oakland (2024). Over his career, he holds a record of 20-15 with a 3.20 ERA (309.1 IP, 110 ER) in 328 games (13 starts). In 2024, Alexander made 45 relief appearances for the Athletics, posting a 1-3 record with a 2.56 ERA (38.2 IP, 11 ER) and 31 strikeouts. He also pitched in the postseason for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 and was part of their World Series Championship team in 2020, though he was not on the active postseason roster.

A native of Santa Rosa, California, Alexander was initially drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 37th round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Cardinal Newman High School but did not sign. He was later selected in the sixth round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft by Kansas City out of Sonoma State University.

To accommodate Alexander on the 40-man roster, infielder Aaron Schunk has been designated for assignment.
