Colorado Rockies make single roster transaction

The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Matt Koch (#54) from Triple-A Albuquerque and have placed right-handed pitcher Jake Bird on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 18, with right elbow inflammation. To make room on the 40-man roster, infielder Julio Carreras has been designated for assignment.

  • During the 2023 season, he made a career-high 39 appearances (one start) in his first season with Colorado … began his stint with Colorado with 10-straight scoreless appearances, June 27-July 21, tied with Rafael Betancourt (2009) for the fifth-longest scoreless streak to begin a Rockies career.
  • Was scoreless in 29 of 39 relief appearances, going 3-2 with a 5.12 ERA (38.2 IP, 22 ER) … 38.2 innings were the second-most of his career behind 2018 (86.2 IP) … nine of his 22 earned runs out of the bullpen came over his final five outings of the year (5.1 IP), raising his season ERA from 3.51 to 5.12.
  • Holds a career Major League record of 9-8 with a 5.03 ERA (168.1 IP, 94 ER) in 79 outings (17 starts) with Arizona (2016-19), Seattle (2022) and Colorado (2023).
