CLEVELAND, OH – The Cleveland Guardians have announced the signing of free agent RHP Jakob Junis to a Major League contract for the 2025 season.

Junis, 32, split the 2024 season between Milwaukee and Cincinnati, achieving a 1.8 bWAR and a 4-0 record with a 2.69 ERA in 24 games/6 starts (67.0 IP, 49 H, 20 ER, 8 BB, 51 SO, .203 AVG), despite spending two and a half months on the IL (R shoulder impingement) following his first start as a Brewer on April 2. After his July 30 acquisition by the Reds, he recorded a September ERA of 1.82 in 5 games/4 starts (5 ER/24.2 IP/12 H/18 K/.143 AVG) to finish the season strong.

He holds a career record of 42-45 with a 4.48 ERA in 192 games/116 starts (388 ER/780.1 IP) with the Kansas City Royals, San Francisco Giants, Brewers, and Reds. In 2023, he posted a 3.87 ERA with the Giants across 40 games/4 starts, logging 86.0 IP with a career-high 10.0 SO per 9.0 IP (96 SO/86 IP).

To make room for Junis on the 40-man roster, the Guardians have placed LHP Sam Hentges on the 60-day Injured List. Junis has reported to camp and will participate in workouts with the team tomorrow.
