CHICAGO – Prior to tonight’s series opener against Texas, the Chicago White Sox made the following four roster moves:

  •  Added to the 26-man active roster (1): INF Jacob Amaya;
  •  Recalled from Class AAA Charlotte (1): RHP Prelander Berroa;
  •  Optioned to Charlotte (1): INF Bryan Ramos;
  •  Designated for Assignment (1): RHP John Brebbia.

Berroa, 24, is 3-5 with a 6.41 ERA (33 ER/46.1 IP) and 49 strikeouts in 43 relief appearances with Charlotte this season. He also has pitched in three games over two stints with the White Sox in 2024, allowing three runs over 2.0 IP.

Berroa was acquired from Seattle on February 3 with outfielder Zach DeLoach and a Competitive Balance B selection (LHP Blake Larson) in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft in exchange for right-hander Gregory Santos.

Amaya, 25, was claimed off waivers yesterday from Houston. He was hitting .221/.308/.330 (59-267) with 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 32 RBI and 36 runs scored in 73 games with Class AAA Sugar Land after being acquired from Miami on April 6. Amaya has appeared in 35 games at second base, 25 at shortstop and seven at third.

Amaya, 6-foot and 180 pounds, also played in one game with the Astros as a defensive replacement on May 7 at Yankee Stadium.

Ramos, 22, was recalled from Charlotte prior to last night’s series finale against Detroit but did not play. He is hitting .257/.331/.412 (58-226) with 11 doubles, eight home runs, 29 RBI and 32 runs scored in 59 games with Charlotte this season, including an active 10-game hitting streak (.333, 14-42).

Brebbia, 34, is 0-6 with a 6.29 ERA (34 ER/48.2 IP) and 58 strikeouts over a team-leading 54 appearances this season, his first with the Sox after signing as a free agent on January 26.

With the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster is at 39.
