KANSAS CITY – Prior to tonight’s series opener at Kansas City, the Chicago White Sox announced the following five roster moves:
- Selected Contract from Class AAA Charlotte (1): INF Brooks Baldwin;
- Recalled from Charlotte (2): C Chuckie Robinson and RHP Steven Wilson;
- Placed on 15-Day Injured List (1): RHP Michael Soroka with a right shoulder strain (retroactive to July 16);
- Designated for Assignment: C Martín Maldonado.
Baldwin, 23, is hitting .324/.391/.460 (102-315) with 19 doubles, eight home runs, 41 RBI, 33 walks, 40 runs scored and 17 stolen bases over 82 games this season between Class AA Birmingham and Class AAA Charlotte. He has hit safely in six of eight games since being promoted to Charlotte, going 10-29 (.345) with three doubles, two homers and four RBI. The switch-hitting Baldwin is tied for sixth in the Minor Leagues in hits, and his .322 average with Birmingham still leads the Southern League.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Baldwin was named the SL Player of the Month for April, and he entered the season rated by Baseball America as the Best Defensive Infielder in the Sox system. Baldwin has zero major-league experience and will wear uniform No. 27.
Baldwin is a career .284/.358/.430 (220-775) hitter with 38 doubles, three triples, 23 home runs, 104 RBI, 87 walks, 120 runs scored, 41 stolen bases and a .788 OPS in 202 games over three seasons (2022-24) in the Chicago organization. He originally was selected by the White Sox in the 12th round of the 2022 draft out of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington.
Robinson, 29, is hitting .246 (49-199) with four doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 32 RBI and 22 runs scored over 55 games with Charlotte in 2024. He is batting .300/.327/.400 (15-50) with a triple, homer and seven RBI over his last 13 games. Robinson will wear uniform No. 47.
Robinson was added to the White Sox 40-man roster on June 16 after signing as a minor-league free agent on December 7, 2023. Robinson is 8-59 (.136) with two doubles, two homers and five RBI in 25 major-league games, all with Cincinnati in 2022.
Wilson, who was optioned to the Knights on July 8, is 1-5 with a 3.46 ERA (10 ER/26.0 IP), eight holds and 26 strikeouts in 30 appearances this season with Chicago.
Soroka, who left his last appearance on Sunday vs. Pittsburgh after throwing just three pitches, is 0-10 with a 5.23 ERA (42 ER/72.1 IP) and 71 strikeouts over 22 games (nine starts) this season, his first with the White Sox.
Maldonado, 37, is batting .119 (16-135) with three doubles, four homers and 11 RBI in 48 games with Chicago in 2024.
Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
