Chicago White Sox Acquire Infielder William Bergolla from Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Pitcher Tanner Banks

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have acquired minor-league infielder William Bergolla from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for left-handed pitcher Tanner Banks.

Bergolla, 19, is rated by Baseball America as the No. 10 prospect in the Phillies organization and No. 11 by MLB.com.

Bergolla, a native of Valencia, Venezuela, is batting .295/.350/.385 (69-234) with 12 doubles, three triples, one home run, 29 RBI, 36 runs scored and 18 stolen bases in 67 games this season with Class A Jersey Shore. His .295 average ranks fourth in the South Atlantic League.

Bergolla, 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, is a .292/.368/.352 (145-497) hitter in 146 games over three seasons (2022-24) in the Phillies minor-league system. He has appeared in 93 games at second base and 46 at shortstop.

Bergolla originally was signed by Philadelphia as an international free agent on January 15, 2022.

Banks, 32, is 2-2 with a 4.13 ERA (22 ER/48.0 IP), 55 strikeouts, two saves and seven holds this season, his third with the White Sox. He originally was selected by the Sox in the 18th round of the 2014 draft.
