Chicago Cubs select RHP Ethan Roberts and option him to Triple-A Iowa, designate RHP José Cuas for assignment

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected RHP Ethan Roberts to the 40-man roster and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa, and designated RHP José Cuas for assignment.

Roberts, 26, is currently playing for Triple-A Iowa and is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA (0 ER/11.1 IP) in 11 relief appearances. He has also made one relief appearance for Double-A Tennessee this season, tossing 0.2 scoreless innings. Roberts missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Roberts made his major league debut with the Cubs in 2022, and went 0-1 with a 8.22 ERA (7 ER/7.2 IP) in nine relief appearances with the Cubs. He was originally selected by Chicago in the fourth round of the 2018 draft out of Tennessee Tech University.

Cuas, 29, went 0-0 with a 7.43 ERA in nine relief appearances for the Cubs this season and was most recently with Triple-A Iowa.

The Cubs play San Francisco tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field, a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score.
