Chicago – The Chicago Cubs have acquired right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet from the New York Yankees in exchange for outfielder Cody Bellinger. The Cubs’ 40-man roster now stands at 40 players.

Cody Poteet:

  • Career Stats: 5-4 with a 3.80 ERA (35 ER/83.0 IP) in 24 major league games (13 starts) with Miami (2021-22) and the Yankees (2024).
  • Major League Debut: May 12, 2021, in Arizona, earning the win (5.0 IP, 2 ER).
  • Notable Achievements:
    • Posted a 1.06 ERA (2 ER/17.0 IP) in his first three major league starts, including a 14.0-inning scoreless streak from May 18-28, 2021.
    • Made his first career Opening Day roster in 2022 and did not allow a run in eight of his first 12 appearances, including a career-high 19.1-inning scoreless streak from April 16-May 17.

In 2024, Poteet went 3-0 with a 2.22 ERA (6 ER/24.1 IP) in five games (four starts) across three stints with the Yankees. He allowed three runs or fewer in each of his four starts and was the fifth Yankees starter since 2010 to record at least three wins in his first four starts with the club.
