All 12 Big Sky football teams will be in action this Saturday, as the in-conference matchup between Portland State and Weber State highlights Week 2. Below are news and notes for Week 2 of the football season.Â
Portland State-Weber State Kicks Off Conference Slate
Portland State travels to Weber State for a Week 2 conference opener, as the game is set to be the earliest Big Sky game in program history for the Vikings and earliest for the Wildcats since 2010. Both squads are coming off games against FBS foes, with the two jumping into conference play this Saturday.Â
Montana State Stays Undefeated at 2-0
Montana State downed Utah Tech 31-7 on the road this past Saturday, as the Bobcats are now 2-0 on the year with both games coming on the road. The 2-0 road record to open the season marks just the third time in program history for Montana State, with the other occurrences coming in 1957 and 1899.
Big Sky-MVFC Challenge Continues in Week 2
Montana opened its season with a 29-24 win over Missouri State at home, as the Grizzlies put one win in the column for the conference in the 2024 Big Sky-Missouri Valley Football Challenge. The two leagues, who have met in two of the last three national championship games, have three more games between the two conferences.

More Chances for Big Sky Over FBS Wins in Week 2
Idaho pushed No. 3 Oregon to its limit last week, but couldn’t pull off the FBS upset on the road. The Big Sky will face five FBS foes in Week 2, with the league already owning one FBS win thanks to Montana State’s Week 0 victory at New Mexico.

Adam Jones Named National Freshman of the Week
Montana State’s Adam Jones was named the FCS National Freshman Player of the Week by Stats Perform FCS, after his great start to the 2024 season. Jones carried the ball 17 times for 167 yards the Week 0 win at New Mexico, with his 93-yard touchdown being the highlight of the game. He rushed for 62 yards and another score in MSU’s 31-7 win at Utah Tech in Week 1 to cement his chances for the national honor.
