CALGARY – Just 24 hours after being released by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, veteran linebacker Kyle Wilson is heading west. The Calgary Stampeders announced Thursday the signing of the American defender, adding an experienced presence to their defensive corps.
Wilson, 29, was a steady force in Hamilton’s linebacking unit over four seasons, appearing in 51 regular-season games from 2021 through 2025. He led the Ticats in tackles last year with 88 total stops, capping off a productive run that included 156 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, 10 special teams tackles, two sacks, three forced fumbles, one interception, and four pass knockdowns.
Originally signed by Hamilton in 2020 following a stint in the NFL, Wilson spent time with both the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Chargers, appearing in three games for the Chargers in 2018 and registering a pair of tackles.
A product of Arkansas State University, Wilson shined at the collegiate level, starting 25 games over two seasons and amassing 172 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble. His standout 2017 campaign earned him Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors after tallying 93 tackles in 12 games.
Before Arkansas State, Wilson made his mark at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, where he also recorded 172 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a handful of takeaways over two seasons with the Blue Dragons.
With proven production at every level, Wilson brings leadership, toughness, and versatility to Calgary’s defense as he embarks on the next chapter of his professional football career.
