Simon Fraser alum brings experience and special teams impact to Calgary

CALGARY – The Calgary Stampeders have signed National linebacker and proven special teams contributor Justin Herdman-Reed to their practice roster.

A 94-game CFL veteran, Herdman-Reed began his career with the Toronto Argonauts—who selected him in the 2017 Draft—and most recently played four seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The Simon Fraser University standout has posted double-digit special teams tackles in four separate seasons, including each of the last three campaigns with Saskatchewan. His career-best came in 2018 with Toronto, recording 19. In total, he has amassed:

  • 67 special teams tackles
  • 52 defensive tackles
  • 2 tackles for loss
  • 2 sacks
  • 2 forced fumbles
  • 2 pass knockdowns
  • 4 playoff appearances

At Simon Fraser, Herdman-Reed compiled an impressive college resume with 213 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, six sacks, two interceptions, six fumble recoveries, and five forced fumbles across 31 games.

Football runs deep in his family: his twin brother Jordan appeared in 17 games for Calgary in 2023, while their father James Reed played professionally in both the CFL and American leagues, suiting up for Winnipeg, Montreal, Toronto, and Saskatchewan.
